    These small TVs are somewhat collectible. I bought mine in a thrift store for $15. But a going rate would be between $50 for a used one, and $150 for one mint in box.

    There's something kinda funny about seeing this ad take a very '70s approach to what would ultimately be an '80s invention (I assume this was made around 1978-1979, a few years before the 1982 launch, based on the prototype discs and players).

    The picture looks way worse in de video than in real live. The distortion visible is most likely caused by the compression algorithm reacting on the scan-rate of the TV set

    Hmm, looks like the lines from the video decoder for colour were not connected, so there unfortunately isn't any chance to make it output those experimental System A colour broadcasts. What I'm wondering is if a modern TV could work with those signals, after all in the age of "single chip" TV-sets supporting just about any standards, it could be that some engineer included 405 line just for the fun of it.

    I just bought a tv just like this, the Sony solid state 110U from I think 1969? It’s just slightly different loooking. Can I hook it up to a vcr player? I’m not really sure how to use this TV lol it’s so much older than my other TVs that are probably from the 80s with the built in VCR player.

  • @minimaxxl8
    @minimaxxl8 Жыл бұрын

    Most VCR`s have a RF-antenna output. If you connect the antenna input of your TV to this output, you must be able to tune-in to the programming playing on the VCR. As Sony uses a different style antenna socket, you might need a special antenna cable for this.

    These were very good TVs. It had a lot of innovations over the earlier models. Ceramic tube sockets all around, reliable PL36 sweep tube (upgraded by Philips from the weak PL81), first TVs using the improved 110 degree CRT (away from the 90 degr older CRT requiring an "ion trap" magnet), automatic vertical field stabilization and first class components all around on metal chassis. And an UHF tuner was available as an option. This TV also was MUCH better than the later TVs with the phenolic PCB boards that could not handle the heat from the tubes and always developed problems from the phenolic boards burning up. Is this the one with the additional UHF tuner option?

  • @minimaxxl8
    @minimaxxl8 Жыл бұрын

    These are very reliable TVs indeed. It does have the UHF preparation (dail indicator) but the UHF tuner is not installed

    Eine der besten Entwicklungen der Achtzigerjahre und nach über vierzig Jahren noch immer der beste Tonträger. Doch 0:46 Ein Werbefilm für CDs - und die Schauspielerin macht es gerade falsch! Nie eine CD auf der zu lesenden Seite ablegen, in Staub und Dreck. Auch eine Schallplatte durfte immer nur am Rand und in der Mitte angefasst und nie ungeschützt abgelegt werden, wenn man daran Freude haben wollte. Sie sollte bei Kassetten bleiben.

    Thanks for posting this. The Sonys look great. The model on the right I can still feel. We had the United Kingdom version for many years. I watched the Croydon and Crystal Palace (both in London, UK) 405-line switchoffs in 1984 on it. As for Standards Conversion, time to thank Peter Rainger et al at the BBC for analogue 625 to 405 conversion and John Baldwin et al at the IBA for the digital version. For its size and power consumption, I think they would have given the Hedgehog their blessing.
