    I think it's because White can't checkmate with just a rook when 2pawns and a Knight are protecting the black king. Black can't also make progress as advancing the pawns would leave the Black King vulnerable against the White rook. So with perfect play, this is probably a drawn position.

    @@RMF49 I’m still unclear after your clarification. What is a draw offer situation? It sounds like you are saying it is okay to flag in any situation unless the opponent offers one a draw? For example, if they are going to lose on time even though they have a winning position, if they offer me a draw, then I should accept?

  • @RMF49

    @RMF49

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@phildo864 No. Flagging in general is considered ok. Even flagging when you’re losing (called “dirty flagging”) is ok and Super GMs do it all the time. What’s bad is say you and I are in a drawn position and we are both low on time. I offer you a draw. You don’t see it and make a move. Then you see it and immediately offer a draw back. Now if I decline the draw and flag you that is bad sportsmanship because it means my original draw offer wasn’t sincere it was just made to distract you, disrupt your flow, and burn your clock. So the only time you are “required” to accept a draw is when you just offered a draw that was missed and a return draw was offered to you. That is a draw offer situation.

  • @phildo864

    @phildo864

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@RMF49 I think I understand. However, how can a draw offer be insincere considering the opponent could take the offer and not miss it? My initial reaction is that I feel like one is not obligated to accept a draw offer even if they offered one first. I feel like a dirty draw offer meant to distract someone is when a person is in a completely loosing position and time and offers a draw just to distract the opponent.

    Eric offered a draw first. Hikaru had already pre-moved which auto-declines the draw offer. So Hikaru offered a draw back expecting Eric to accept. If both had enough time then Eric would have been looking for it and accepted. But being so low on time Eric also pre-moved. If Eric had deliberately offered a draw then reverted to flagging that would be bad sportsmanship and that is what Hikaru was complaining about. But Hikaru overreacted - Eric didn’t do it on purpose it was just the time crunch and they couldn’t get in sync on accepting draws.

    This was the most blown-out of proportion thing in recent years on Twitch. I know like 50 people that say "They don't even care" when they are upset. Its just something you say, its embedded into the language. In fact we have the same thing in Turkish as well. Also he repeats everything he says, thats one of the reasons that makes him a good streamer because instead of silence he'll just repeat the same things over and over again. I would hate someone who does that irl, but its good on Twitch.
