The First Test day of 2022! Testing on the track and also on the TRACK! AX and Drags!

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Dragstrip testing the LS Turbo powered Porsche 914!
So it just happened that the Siskiyou Sports Car Club and the Medford Dragstrip both had their first test day on the same day. The schedules overlapped a bit, but I was still able to make both.
And, NO things didn't go as planned...
But we did get to see a great McLaren Can Am build

I love the fact you have built a car to try and enjoy multiple ways. That’s a real racecar in my eyes and you are a real car enthusiast you just want to enjoy yourself. Respect bro.

With drag radials this would be incredibly fast (and possibly break stuff too lol) looks like a hoot to drive!

See that's how you were able to get this car in the first place. Glad you were not on public roads and are safe.

Yeah, these things can humble a person in a hurry. Going slow around the track and the boost decides to kick in right when you're going over a rise.

Mine too. :) Actually there is a lot of fiberglass work to do all over the car. So this is just a few more minutes work.

Wasn't this car at a Porsche swap meet in PA about 4 years ago? If it was, you put a lot of love into this car. When I saw it, it was for sale and needed to be repaired. Great job!

You almost need a way to limit boost during autocross. But even then, that 914 is a handful.

We can adjust the boost, generally run it as low as possible for the short autox.

I do need to try that. 1st gear is good to about 55mph 2nd is around 90 or so. My biggest issue is I'm to cheap to buy good tires. I feel I need to work out the other issues first.

Throttle management: The gas pedal should not be used as an on-off. imagine you have an egg under your foot. squeeze the pedal quickly but not smashing the egg. the same applies for decel. dont jump off the pedal so quick as to allow the egg to fall off.

  • @budgetoutlaws9978

    @budgetoutlaws9978

Thanks for the tip. Using 1st gear really accentuates the on/off. I can only hold the throttle down for maybe 1 second of full throttle. Then it does make for less time to setup properly for corners and braking. Maybe I'll add the scanner on the next video. 2nd gear doesn't sound as crazy, and it's almost as fast. When my driving gets better maybe I'll use TWO gears!! LOL.

@@budgetoutlaws9978 we put a non linear cam roller on the throttle shaft to help manage throttle smother. it was a 550hp NA LS 914. im sure your turbo adds complexity to mapping out a throttle curve. later on we used a motec where you can simply program in a better curve. PS. i remember when that thing was primer. same 914, right?

  • @budgetoutlaws9978

Actually, it's still in primer depending on which angle you look at it. Still have a lot of body work to do. and now a little bit more. I'm saving my hundreds for a different engine management system. For now it's just work thru the bugs, have fun with the car. I'll bet your 914 is a beast. Did you have problems with stub axles breaking?

@@budgetoutlaws9978 930 gear is stout and the bearings fit in the 914 arm. sway away made us some axles. Mendiola here in san diego has all this figured out and were very helpful so we didnt have to re-invent the wheel. stock 914 power transfer components become unreliable above 300hp. drag race launches will break stuff while road racing relies on smooth power input to get good traction and track times. being smooth and finishing the race gets the win.

Too much torque over powered the chassis , there is only so much old suspension technology can give on a circuit track so I’d keep it strait
