The first swim around Pitcairn Island 🇵🇳 | Alex Kostich | New World First!

On May the 4th 2019, Alex Kostich started his attempt to swim around Pitcairn island. A distance of 10.3km. He was met with big swells and strong currents. Conditions he had not faced anywhere else. After 2 hours 37 minutes and 42 seconds of battling he made it back to Bounty Bay where he started and became the first person to swim around Pitcairn Island. Congratulations Alex!

Dude. I just thought. That might make you the first person EVER to swim around an entire country!

It's technically not swimming around an entire country. This is because the Pitcairn Islands is composed of four islands, Pitcairn Island, along with Oeno, Ducie, and Henderson Island. If you swam around all of those islands in one swim, you would be swimming around a whole country. However, that is impossible because it would mean swimming a distance of ~1000 miles in the middle of the Pacific Ocean.

Hey dude I was searching for someone from Pitcairn Island and I found you. You are so lucky to live away from madness of cities.

So many questions! That video was eye opening to see an ocean swimmer finish the line as well. What a champ. Also I LOVE your videos. I'm obsessed with Pitcairn, looks like taking a step back from our world right now. I live in Auckland, and also think it's kinda crazy how the Islanders have our accent and look like they are neighbours yet so far away. Total dream to get there one day. What's the internet like? And what cameras did you use?

Glad you are enjoying the videos! You might have heard my accent there which is a kiwi accent. The islanders have a distinctly different accent. The internet there is quite slow although very usable if you're patient! It is getting better. I filmed using a Gopro 7 and the drone shots are from a mavic air.

@@bradbrown3447 Will Pitcairn get better Internet access with Space X's Starlink? They use low-earth orbit satellites, so coverage is global and low-latency with decent speeds (unlike geosynchronous orbit satellites, which are so far away that high latency and low bandwidth is unavoidable).

What an awesome achievement! 👏👏. I have no idea about open water swimming but from the camera angle he appears to be a fair way off shore. I understand he wants to avoid surf zones but why so far out to sea ? Just curious. Also my wife doesn’t like your vids cos after I watch them I hassle her that we should move there. 🤣
