removing any dust caused by sanding from the affected area?

That's a great tip, bikeomatic! Yes you should brush off the dust from sanding/roughing the surface at the hole.

Only for people who have already used bike patch kits and either figured it out or had someone show them.

Yes, I've had a friend complaining that when they punctured the seal, it squirts out the tube... lol! I told him to invert the cap & gently pierce the seal, with minimal grip on the tube. Just like a tube of tomato purée...😂 So there are definitely younger generations who have no idea about this method!

@@Bikeops2021 thanks for weighing in Graham. I have been the mechanic at lots of big rides over the decades and shown plenty of new riders basic things like this. And, it's weird that the patch kit makers assume you will know these things. They really should be explained in the directions in my opinion.

You’d be surprised by what people don’t know. I came across a lady on the bike path trying to put air in her tire. She had presta tubes but the pump was set up for Schrader. She had let so much air out trying to fill up her tire, that if I hadn’t come along she would have had to walk to the trail head 2miles. I unscrewed the pump head flipped the rubber grommet around and got her squared away. I never asked her who sold it to her or how she got the pump, but pretty simple if you are a seasoned cyclist. Some people are still spinning their q/r’s to tighten up the wheel………
