No, really. The first movie is Superman: Doomsday, and Doomsday and Superman face off as we know.. but that's only the first third of the movie. Let's find out what happens next!

I mean while it’d be nice I don’t know where you heard it’s “supposed” to have animation on that level now. Most DC movies have perfectly passable animation on par with most other DC products from the past 20 years. It’s kinda ignorant to say otherwise

It is however the most accurate depictions of Doomsday in a film because in the Death of Superman film Doomsday was created by Darksied and in Batman V Superman they basically have a cave troll that's cosplaying as Doomsday.

Looking from the comic of the death of Superman. He says doomsday did the one thing no one has ever made him feel before, exhausted. He comments in his rematch with doomsday how in their initial fight he was just throwing deadweight from how burnt out he was getting from doomsday’s unrelenting assault. He felt like a normal man fighting an impossible battle. Maybe by the time he died he had given everything’s had and was brought down to a normal person and in that Lois could see Clark not just Superman.

8:06, Come to think of it, I believe it was this movie where I first saw blood in animation (either that, Atlantis: The Lost Empire, the Family Guy episode where Stewie shoots Lois or the few glimpses of Naruto I managed to catch before I even knew what it was). All I can vividly remember was how unnerved I felt seeing even the trailers for this movie. I had seen violence like in live action (Spiderman’s Goblin beatdown and Otto’s hospital escape come to mind, though I was prevented from seeing the latter scene in full back then), but what was unnerving was specifically seeing animation used portray violence in a graphic manner and to have such a brutal story that features the protagonist, especially one as prominent as Superman, being almost mauled to death by a giant, mindless beast. Looking back with the knowledge of other animated works, this film really opened my eyes as to the potential of what animation could be used for and what kind of stories it could tell. As to the plot, I was somewhat surprised how quickly Doomsday disappears from the plot after being killed, the role of antagonist being transferred to an unhinged clone of Clark. However, as a first introduction to Doomsday, it doesn’t disappoint, not just because it manages to kill Clark and prove him to not be completely invulnerable, but also being a decent foil to Clark, having power just like him but without any of his “humanity” (just as Luthor lacks Clark’s morals and his clone, though sharing in his sense of duty to those around him, develops a god complex and a believes himself to be entitled to judge and punish people as he sees fit). If anything, the film serves as an analysis of Clark’s humanity through showcasing the limits of his mortality (making him closer to humans than people previously thought) and in the virtues his antagonists lack (Doomsday’s violence and lack of restraint, Luthor’s lack of selflessness and Clone Clark’s lack of humility).

This one isn’t as well remembered as the other early movies, but it had some great moments. The early dc original animated movies headed by Timm were the best. By setting them as standalones that aren’t connected, they were able to utilize different art styles. The animation felt higher quality than the later DCAMU. I just felt the writing of the early movies were much better (with some exceptions)

Great video Mauricio! This is a good movie - I don't expect much from straight to DVD animated fare, the stories are too simplistic, not providing enough depth and complexity as a full-fledged movie - They should be willing to be a 100 minutes as opposed to always being between 70 and 80 minutes, but this one is better than most. The story is very engaging, it evolves in a dynamic and interesting fashion, with fun new revelations had at a well done, gradual pace. The Doomsday fight and Superman on Superman fight later on are absolutely fantastic, they're as dynamic, long, and fun as you'd want them to be. I also don't like the Jimmy Olsen plot, simply because there's no story hook to tie it into - If Jimmy was aiming for something fresh or desiring to become more ambitious, it should've been displayed from the start. This is clearly the movie's attempt to give the side characters some story, and this storyline is hurt by coming off as that, not appearing natural and organic. I definitely want a side plot with Jimmy by the way and understand the motivation for this - The movie would feel too simple if one of the side characters doesn't have some character meat to work with, but it should've been handled better. "It's why I'm here" - I've always loved this line by Superman, it's so simply, uncomplicatedly earnest in its goodness, and perfectly captures the character. It's always stayed with me in a profound way. I'm a stickler for things making sense, so I don't like Superman lasering himself and opening up his skin - This should realistically hurt. I think it should be said that Lex has improved upon the original Superman by lessening the feeling in his nerves, so he's more adept at dealing with pain. I also think the intense heat needed to cut through his skin can't ricochet off a mirror without melting it - I think he should laser off his hand to do the operation. I believe a semblance of realism always aids in investment.

I'd love to see you do all the DC Animated films starting from this film. Superman Doomsday a pretty decent Superman movie though it does feel a bit rushed at times but than again it still kick started the DC Animated films and the animation is really good and bombastic. I too also think Lex is depicted really weird and has such a disturbing fixation with Superman like he's Joker or Reverse Flash, which I don't think really works since Lex is a lot more subtle and keeps his hatred at bay as much as he can when it comes to his rivalry with Superman. Also pretty poor timing that Superman in this movie was voice by Alec Baldwin which doesn't really help given the the news and all. My favourite Superman animated film is *Superman Vs The Elite (2012)* which is my favourite Superman film in general, and really defines what makes Superman such a phenomenal fictional icon. Would love to see you review that movie, including other movies like: *Mask of the Phantasm* *Batman: Subzero* *Superman and Batman: World's Finest* *Batman and Superman: Public Enemies* *All-Star Superman* *Green Lantern: First Flight* *Green Lantern: Emerald Knights* *Wonder Woman (2009)* *Justice League: New Frontier* *Justice League: Crisis on Two Earth's* *Justice League: Doom* Etc...

I loved this movie!! This was my first exposure to DC, except MAYBE Teen Titans, Doomsday Superman is my definitive Superman. The same goes for that version of Lois and Jimmy I bet Doomsday would've been less angry if he went to Betterhelp

Not sure there’s ever been bad Lois Lane in animation But both Kate Bosworth (Superman Returns) and Amy Adams (Snyderverse) were not good versions of the character and were so boring and it’s not entirely their fault however I do think Kate Bosworth was miscast and if you watch anything else Amy Adams is in then you’ll know she’s a good actor and if you watch Enchanted you’ll know that she has the energy for Lois but she wasn’t given anything to do

I agree with you on returns. Returns is one of my favourite Superman movies, but Lois was boring in that. Lois in snyderverse (except ZSJL) actively investigates for stories. Even going as far to clear Superman's name in BvS.

Why is he confused by this? She literally says "I've already figured out who you are, why can't you just tell me?!" or something like that, it's not ambiguous at all. This is like when the Nostalgia Critic or Cinema Sins lie about the content of the movies they're reviewing, and omit scenes or switch them around, and then pretend to be confused.

Yeah, I agree. I thought the back cover art of Iron Man fighting The Mandarin would look bad ass in the movie and come to find out when I watched it that's not how it went down. Frickin' false advertising.

Fun fact, the mechanical spider was from a kevin Smith interview where he had to write a script with superman fighting a mechanical spider, in the movie kevin Smith has a cameo where he's like "really, a giant spider?"

@12:02 I thought Lois figured it out too. But later in the movie when so goes to Ms Kent, she says something like "I'm sorry Clark died in the Middle East" or whenever he was. She doesn't know Superman is Clark. I think Ms Kent might have told Lois, or Superman does when he returns at the end of the movie.
