Fantastic Four (2005) has been talked about as being one of "those" old 2000's movies that we should forget. A movie that wasn't good, and is a perfect example of how NOT to make a superhero movie. Well today I'm here to say that it's actually a good film, one that captures core ideas of the Fantastic Four, and is a classic every superhero fan should watch!

Not high art, but fun that has genuine heart, passion, and charm behind it. Whoever the actors that the MCU is gonna get are they're gonna have big shoes to fill.

The bridge scene in the 1st Fantastic Four movie is so underrated, I'm specifically talking about the scene where the Thing tried to pick up his fiancée’s ring, that's still one of the most well done scene in comic book movies history, it's basically the Sandman transformation scene but better, at least that's a villain, and he did eventually picked up his daughter's photo, and he has the ability to turn back human form, the Thing never managed to pick it up, and he's a good guy who got turned into a monster due to an accident, and his fiancée abandoned him after he just saved the day

Sure is more respect than what Marvel Studios is showing. I mean, look at my girl Kamala! They changed her to a Purple Lantern (or Night Light) because they found her powers she shares with Reed to be gross. And what happened to Reed in Multiverse of Madness? He barely used his stretchy powers and Wanda turned him into spaghetti. After Ms. Marvel and Multiverse of Madness, I don't have much hope for the MCU's Fantastic Four. They are scared of showing someone stretching.

This movie was fairly unique at the time as one of the first (of. If the first) superhero films where the heroes had no secret identities. And you are right that Michael Chikliks is the glue that holds everything together. I could honestly watch an entire film of him just trying to navigate his life without any action taking place. In fact, I’d say the action was the movie’s undoing. It didn’t really mesh with the film’s attempt at being more character driven resulting in an awkward finale where the four are able to make up because Doom tried to kill them. But at the same time, there is a certain charm to the cast to go with the uniqueness of the narrative. Also, Kerry Washington is always a plus.

I read somewhere that they were originally going to do CGI for the Thing, but Michael Chiklis pushed for them to do a suit, even though it would take more time and require him to sit in a makeup chair for hours. Apparently Chiklis was a big fan of the comics and thought the Thing needed to be as practical as possible to give Ben's dilemma more weight (the more real he looked, the more empathetic the audience would be). He even went as far as to wear the costume's dentures home, just so he could get used to them and find the best way to say his lines. Dude went above and beyond for this role, and that makes it so great.

There’s that little scene with Ben reacting to the rubber reflex hammer, which doesn’t affect him, but when they use an actual hammer, he responds. It’s just a little physical comedy, right? Probably, but It’s much sadder in my opinion. The fact that he could only feel something that big means he probably can’t feel physical touch, like someone hugging him or holding his hand or any kind of loving touch. Ok now I’m sad 😞. Great video though, I really like the movie too!

If they utilized Doom’s background, I’d say the story would’ve been way better than it already was. Thinking about it, what really bogged these films down were their mediocre antagonists, aside from Silver Surfer who was very multilayered and interesting. But these films definitely deserve more appreciation for how good they actually are.

I loved both the FF films when I was young and still do. I even bought the PC version of the first film's tie-in game back in the day. They're definitely average films, but this video perfectly highlights how much they got right. Fantastic video!

Whenever browntable makes a video on why a movie is actually good despite what other ppl say, I’m gonna use this in an argument if some says this movie is bad. Can you do a video on the 2003 Ang Lee hulk movie? THAT WOULD BE FCKN AWESOME!!!!!

I would die for a MCU that had tobey 🕷, and ang lee’s hulk, and everyone else that was the 2000 marvel heroes. That would be a GREAT avengers universe

as someone who dad's a diehard f4 fan ioan got reed richards perfectly ,hes a well meaning man , but hes too much into his work and tries to hard to "stretch" himself to far ....in the movie like in the comics when they all get their powers he completely ignores everyone to try to find a cure ...i did like john as reed hopefully they use a similar format from ioan's reed richards and hes right reed is into his research moreso and can be oblivious to everything around him

These two Fantastic Four movies were apart of my childhood that helped me get into Marvel and introduced me to the F4. Yes they are not perfect and a bit cheap and silly but I don’t understand when people say they are terrible, they aren’t great but not bad. Chris Evans, Ioan Gruffudd, Michael Chicklis were great it’s just the character writing wasn’t on par with what the characters should be. Jessica Alba was a pathetic Sue Storm though and they wrote her so so weakly. I actually liked Julian McMahon’s Dr Doom even though it is nowhere near what Doom is meant to be, he acted pretty villainous. Also the best thing about these movies is John Ottman’s score. I’m so hyped for the MCU F4, I still can’t believe they casted John Krasinski!

As a kid I used to wonder why people used to complain that the two fantastic four movies were too “cheesy” when everyone complimented the Raimi Spider Man Movies for that exact same reason. Sure I don’t think the fantastic four movies were even on par with that trilogy but still I don’t get why the cheesiness was a problem when it helped define one of the most beloved superhero trilogy of all time.

Fun fact: In an interview Jared Leto confirmed to his fans that the line his character Morbius says in the movie Morbius, the famous "It's Morbin Time", was inspired by the phrase from The Thing, It's cobberin time, and let him know to Morbius fans that Morbius' most iconic phrase in the Morbius movie wouldn't be possible without the thing.
