I don't think ANY youtube posting has ever affected me like this, and believe me, I've watched and listened to hundreds if not thousands over the past 12 or so years. Anybody could tell that Imus was choked up, and that undoubtedly was why there was music over the last two or so minutes of this clip. As I've mentioned before, the "All in the Family" clip where Mike and Gloria left was, and remains, very moving, but bear in mind, that was just a TV show. This is real life, folks. I'll concede that Imus did brag, but SO WHAT? Anybody that's been doing a job for 50 years is at least somewhat entitled, don't you think? I didn't agree with ALL that he said and did, but he did kill a few ''sacred cows". BTW, a baseball player, Dizzy Dean. if memory serves me correctly, getting back to bragging, said "It ain't braggin' if you done it." That said I'll sorely miss him, and to paraphrase George Jones, "Who's gonna fill Imus' shoes?" NOBODY, that's who!

Yea Dallas Ft Worth. Galloway was a longtime sports reporter and then later a columnist at the Dallas Morning News before finally going to Ft Worth Star Telegram. Sometime back in the mid 80's WBAP hired him to do a 6pm to 8pm call in sports show. Randy had never been a radio guy but he was an immediate hit. He had a huge fan base as a writer and radio guy.

That was powerful to listen to. I met Don and Deirdre and Fred back in 1998 or so when they began building the Imus Ranch. Deirdre was probably 8 months pregnant with Wyatt. I am a sign painter and graphics designer and I lettered most of everything they needed. This went on for 12 years or more. Don Imus is absolutely the finest customer I've ever had. He paid me to paint highly decorative Western style stuff all over the place and every project was appreciated and accepted without a hitch. We had lots of laughs, too. Don loved to tease and shock, his wit was mercenary, but he loved it when I dished it back. Many times I heard him repeating our conversations the next couple of days on his show. This was a gratifying and heady experience to hear my name being tossed about and his guys laughing in the background. It was really wonderful. I'm going to write Deirdre a letter, the kind you place a stamp upon.

I heard him for the first time on the old 66 WNBC in NYC. He was a class act. A great entertainer without being obscene. Mr Class. He had a quick wit that (to be honest) it took me a little time to understand. This video chokes me up. Love you forvever I-Man. Thanks for the memories.

Don Imus....You were the most honest, intelligent, entertaining, funny and fair radio host ever...the humor was always based off of truth (no one was left out...which made if fair...and that one incident - true fans knew you meant no harm and you sincerely apologized ). You used to make my morning as I went through some tough times and a tough job. I laughed at the jokes, the comedy skits ( President Nixon, Cardinal O'Connor, etc.) and of course, the random political interviews (calling political guests "half a phony" when they wouldn't give you a straight answer - that was the best...many times it was exactly what the audience was thinking and you would say it right to the politician) . There has been no one better than you...it is true. God Bless you and your family...and Thank you!!! We will miss you and your special connection with the audience and of course, your sense of humor. Thank you for the great memories and I hope you know you were greatly appreciated by your fans.

I produce a lot of long-form radio programming, and the one thing that I instruct ALL of my hosts is something that I learned from listening to Imus. Introduce yourself, the station and the guest EVERY five minutes without fail. He was deceptively good at what he did, because he didn't draw attention to it. That's why he was able to get people to tell him what they wouldn't tell anyone else. And I liked that he'd have conservatives AND liberals on, but only if they had two IQ points to put together. Nobody does that anymore. Everyone preaches to the choir. My heart aches not being able to hear him anymore.

I grew up in New Jersey and started listening to IMUS in the 70's and never stopped. The memories as a kid listening with my dad in the early 80's, driving in to Naval SUBASE in Groton, CT in the 1990's, all the years on MSNBC and beyond. Where does 40 years go? There are no words to describe how the Imus in the Morning program was an integral part of my life and how it always brings back fond memories remembering times with my [now deceased] dad as a kid listening in the car. I'll never forget Wilfred Brimley Thanksgiving and Christmas messages for hot oatmeal, Moby Worm, and the list could go on forever. I don't know if IMUS knows just how he impacted many of us who grew up with him. I started listening as a pre-teen and now I am 50-years old. That is a long time... a lot of memories he help build and I am both thankful and saddened at the same time when I remember and realize he is now gone.

Daaaaamn dude. Imus is sounding old here. I guess he’s always had a bit of an aged “good ole boy” quality to his voice but you can hear him losing his breath, etc. I was just listening to a broadcast of his from 73 and realized that Nixon was in office at the time...and imus had already been broadcasting for years at that point. Talk about an expansive, decade spanning career.

I listened to Imus when he was on his first gig, KUTY in Palmdale, CA late '60s. Used to enjoy running into him in the late hours at one of the two 24 hour old time cafes on Sierra Hwy (The White Spot and Dana's Diner). Don Imus, to my ear, was the same guy shooting the shit over coffee at 2:00 AM in 1968 as he was when he closed the show after 50 years in the business. That's rare, the sign of someone who always knew himself and was true to himself for the long haul. I don't think the business changed him but he certainly changed the business. Best wishes, Mr. Imus.

I heard of him in '71 but became an everyday listener in '73 when I began my college commuting days. He morphed with the times and kept his show relevant yet unique. He was well-read, interested in politics & history, but kept his insane sense of humor. And he was also a legitimately charitable person. He'll be missed, he's one of a kind.

In 1972, I was an in studio cameraman for ABC Eyewitness News in New York. The Anchors were Roger Grimsby and Bill Beutel. The schedule had us doing an hour show from 6 to 7:pm, and again from 11 to 11:30:pm. weekdays. We were off for three and a half hours in between shows, during which time we hung out at a local bar/restaurant down the block eating dinner then drinking till it was time to go back and prepare for the late show. I was close with Roger, and one of the few people he liked and could make him laugh. He was a serious type guy, drank a lot, often with me in those days. Roger didn't like many people, and hardly ever laughed. One day in 1972 I walked into the studio and put the cameras in position, we rotated that job among the three cameramen assigned to the show. Roger was at the anchor desk working with the show's script when I walked in. He looked up when he saw me and said, "Did you hear what Imus said today?" I asked him, "What's an Imus?" He said, You don't listen to Imus? I just looked at him and shrugged my shoulders at him, not knowing what the hell he was talking about. Then he told me all about Imus in the Morning on AM Radio, and when he got to the part where he told me what Imus said on the radio, he burst out laughing. I don't think I ever saw his teeth before that, and I never heard or saw him belly laugh like that. The next morning I had to tune in and listen. That's when I got it. Imus was ground breaking radio, and way ahead of his time, in fact ahead of everyone's time. No one before him ever had the guts, or the vodka lol, to say the things he said on the radio at that time. He's been a constant morning companion in my life from that day forward until the last. Mornings aren't the same now, and I doubt they ever will be again. I know it was time for him to go out on top, but losing the I-Man was like losing a member of the family that you'll always miss. I think about him from time to time, it's what brought me here. I hope the rest of his days are filled with happiness and love. Knowing that will be worth the loss. Be well my long time morning companion. Though we never met, I'll miss you like a brother who went away. God Bless I-Man.

From what I gathered from watching old shows Imus was (maybe still is) a Yankee fan. For most of the time he was at WFAN, WABC was the Yankees' flagship, and when he was on WABC, WFAN was (and still is, for that matter. There was a company that made airchecks, and there was one from 1982 when Imus was on WNBC (which preceded WFAN on 660) in which Imus said that if he were at WABC, it would still be Musicradio. This was made shortly after 'ABC went all talk. Imus did get his wish, I guess, in that he ended his career at WABC.

It's not what Francesa said ~ and he was around Don for 30+ years. If you {as a viewing public} take a 40 second laughable comment and turn it into a conviction, then comedy is dead. #TakeComedyOffTrial Think of the great comics we have and had ~ would we pass the same condemnation on @ChrisRock, @norm, or any comedian who seeks to entertain a collective audience with possible non-PC jokes? And @Twitter, @FB, @youtube want to castrate a 50 year radio career guy who died on Christmas eve ~ shame on you all!

38-1/2 years I listened to him. Beginning September 3, 1979 & ending March 29, 2018. I would call him at WNBC, WFAN and one final time in May 30th or 31st 2017 when he took calls asking about Tony Powell's performance with Curtis Sliwa the day before. It was a tough call for me, as my mom had passed away 4/1/17. I thought about thanking Rob Bartlett on air for his thoughtful floral arrangement he sent to the funeral parlor, but hesitated. Imus made me somewhat famous as "Joe From Queens" which was my on air moniker when calling talk shows. Got to visit the WFAN studios a few times, he even put me on air once or twice. Thank you, Don!
