I think when they do the benchmarks they should have some music production related ones. As a producer it's difficult to know if the raw horsepower is what to look for or if there are more things to consider. I remember Linus said that they would make some videos on the topic, but I didn't see none yet. And it's kinda sad, because all the music oriented channels don't make in-depth review about hardware like this.

If you want music production on a laptop, you're best choice is Apple. I don't know why, but Reason Studio and Pro Tools both only run well on Apple's Mac OSX, in Windows they are borderline unusable stuttery messes on anything less than the best. It's bad enough that, for 5 year, people were stuck piling up expensive thunderbolt docks loaded with interface cards next to the trashcan Mac Pro just to get a good experience, despite the fact it meant spending over $1M on the setup. If you REALLY want a Windows laptop to do music work on, your best bet is to try to get something like the Intel based Gigabyte Aorus machine mentioned above. You will NEED all the CPU grunt you can get, and you'll want the thunderbolt port for interfaces down the line. Otherwise, you're going to have a bad time.

Not really. The devil is in the power consumption as Linus stated. 10NM allowed them to clock high enough to eek out a tad more performance than AMD while running hotter and getting half the battery life. I think this would be more of a win if they managed to do the same on desktop where their lack of efficiency is less of a deal breaker. I think most would gladly give up ~5% performance for an additional 4-5 hours of battery and lower temps that you get on Ryzen. It's a small victory, but Intel desperately needs a new architecture.

@@xFODDERx just wait for the thermals to thermals comparison. for desktop pc performance. laptops are limited by too many factors. cause even intels max ghz is 2.3 @ 45w (9w away from amds 54w max at 4.8) too many numbers everywhere to support either side. as said before consumer will always win in these wars.

That validation process is gonna be an amazing step. I have an r5 3500u, and it never turbos to its marketed 3.6 ghz. The cooling is ao bad in my laptop that it idles at 45 deg during summers and quickly hits 90 within seconds under load

LTT should do a review of my old Dell XPS 720 H2C Desktop. It’s a monster from back in the day. I don’t think there was ever a bigger consumer desktop than this thing. Over $7k price tag when new as well and features the uncommon BTX form factor.

You should cut a hole in the back of the reference Intel laptop and watercool it. You don't necessarily have to take the stock heatpipes off, just cludge the block *on top of* whatever heat pipes or spreader is there.
