V4's are the only sport bike engines that should exist. You get all the same power as an inline 4, in an engine with much better balance, a more compact package that fits better in a motorcycle chassis, AND you don't sacrifice all of your low end power like you do with inlines.

You just missed out the entire evolution of the motorcycle up to the 1930s, because almost all of it happened in Europe not the US. The two stroke, liquid cooling, OHV and then OHC, even 4 valve heads and narrow angle Vs were all there by the 1930s. The US was a weird country with big V-twins and a few 4 cylinder designs. The opposed twin and parallel twin originated in Europe, the opposed twin happening long before BMW adopted it. If you called the video "The evolution of the motorcycle in the US and Japan" it would be more accurate.

@@sketchmoon3333 You don't need to be biased, and actually there are plenty of US channels which show a much greater understanding of the history of machinery. This video is like the US history of D-day which gives the impression that it was almost an entirely US affair with a little help from everybody else, whereas the US did not become the major force in Europe till rather later. It's bad history. Had it been the other way round I would have pointed out the important developments made by US companies in the same period.

Nice, but you're selling short the enormous quantity of French, British and more monos (250, 350cc...) that roamed Europe in the 1920s and 30s. Plus the 500cc twin from Royal Enfield! Competing in the international 6 days was one the ways the motors evolved

Scooters & mopeds deserve a place in the conversation.

Is this sponsored by Harley? It is a second hand copy of the Indian! Indian made them in 1901, Harley made a bad copy in 1903, and had to hire Olley Evinrude (of motorboat fame) to get their engine running. Indian even made an electric start in 1914, with electric lights!! Indians had a rear suspension, HD didn't make one until the 1960's. Indian invented the motorcycle carbs, hand controls, clutches, belt drives, HD copied them. It was Harely that had to compete with Indian. Indian was the largest producers of motorcycles in the WORLD at one time and won the Isle of Man with 1,2,3 place trophies.
