It took a while but here is another ant video! hope you guys like it! Here is the link to the merch: my-store-eaaf62.creator-spring.com/ the stuff that is on there right now is probably not worth buying 😅But I'm planning to make some merch with real designs soon!

My man, you *need* to put a simple a simple drainage layer of gravel & screen/filter floss under the substrate‼️ I made the same mistake early on. I can't tell you how often I've seen colonies go crazy with excavation as soon as the soil is freshly sprayed‼️ I thought it was a fluke at first but there's a *reason* ants always build their homes in the wild under stones/logs etc. When it rains, wait till the ground looks dry afterwards then lift a large stone! You will still its still wet/moist underneath! The drainage layer allows you to properly _moisten_ the soil without waterlogged it! Then the only other *equally* important step, is to add a small colony of springtails if you live somewhere humid where mold grows easily. They're super cheap & just get the smallest culture you can find because they double their #'s in days & they self regulate their population to the available resources! (I assume most of Europe has similar climate to the Pacific Northwest in which case springtails are a *must have)*

bro that has to be the worst merch I've ever seen lmao. You just used some random font and typed Bob. Not to mention it costs more than my left leg. Y so much for a hat??I mean honestly the amount of effort you put into that merch is the amount of effort I use when I eat a sandwhich. However I like the editing and content. Doesn't go unnoticed. But damn what is that merch. That is the opposite of inspiring. It's despiring. My year is ruined and will not be the same again.

@@tommycr271 🤣yeah it is bad. It was more just to test how teespring works and how the connection with youtube works. Real designs are in the work! As for the price , unfortunatly teespring takes such a large cut I can't put it much lower because I already have little profit on it at the price it is now. But is indeed expensive and I don't expect to sell much even with good designs 😅 I'm glad you like the content ! That is more important

Also, a potential reason they aren’t moving into any of that dirt is it is too dry. Unless you water it daily like a flower it won’t be suitable for them to live in. They require some sort of reservoir at the bottom to keep the nest moist.

  • @HomemadeEcosystems

I skipped giving a like on the last video because you had already passed your goal, but I made it up to you by liking this one. I really would not have eaten that jam in your position as It totally could have been passed as a joke. Props.

One thing I think people are forgetting, 1 billion ant sized humans would be impossible to manage logistically and humans are known for turning on each other. They also wouldn't have many effective weapons at that scale. So even with a billion of them, it's probably an easier option.

I know this is 4 weeks late, but that's exactly what you should do. Another chnnel focused on ants (Ants Canada) did sevevral videos on ant keeping, and the usual thing is to uncover the test tube once everything is ready, so the ants WANT to find a new home. Otherwise they have no reason to. @@HomemadeEcosystems

Many years ago a writer named Leslie Charteris wrote a book of short stories (some might know his character, Simon Templar or The Saint, which is set somewhere in the US and involves a scientist trying to grow super-ants. Needless to say he succeeds and produces a supersize Queen Ant, and if you want to know more look for the book (will see if I can find the title) but just say that the result convinced me that you do NOT want a dog sized or larger queen ant, you do not want that at all - this one was very very intelligent, I'll say no more. EDIT back again. The book is The Happy Highwayman and the short story is ''The Man Who Liked Ants'' (and went a bit too far - took it to extremes - in my opinion).

using sand in an out world is fine, but most ant species would do good in a semi-moist soil. there are plenty of good resources of what medium is best for what ants. good luck in your ant keeping!

If you want the ant colony to grow faster (and therefore also move faster), then you can light up stones that lay in the sun when it is summer. Under the stones can be ant pupae that are brought up by the colony because they will hatch faster by the warmth of the sun. You can take those pupae (no ants, just pupae) but of course not all for the good of the colony😊. You can give those pupae to your colony and when the pupae hatch, the workers become part of your colony. I hope this helps you a little in caring for your ant colony😁

If you want to move the ants, you need to put some water on the sand so that the ants can dig more easily. but the most important thing is if you see that the colony does not want to move, you should not force them, this give the colony a lot of stress
