The Evolution of Crypto Venture Funds | Roundup

In this week's round up the Mike, Michael, and Vance examine the new market structure emerging as fresh capital starts to flow back into the space and debate whether this could break the traditional crypto market cycles. They also discuss the impact of early liquidity on founders and teams through token launches. Additionally, they analyze the impressive growth and revenue numbers from Coinbase's layer 2 Base. Finally, they explore the role of collateral and yield in the crypto ecosystem compared to traditional finance.

Great episode! Same as last time, appreciated the inside into the VC part of the crypto world. That's a corner that is otherwise hard to access. I don't agree with the point on the Issuance curve as I believe that we should stick with the strategy of minimal viable issuance and stay efficient ( I think that overpaying for security is not necessary), but of course, everyone can view it differently and I appreciate that you shared your perspective. Would actually love to hear more about your opinions on the topic of increasing staking marketshare.

I think its sad that regulations have led us to "we don't want 10,000 random strangers on your cap table" (18:01) when in fact thats exactly what ethereum ICO was and we've gone downhill on the fundraising side ever since. How many ethereum ICO investors have been locked out of these more recent seed stages etc because they aren't "accredited" or don't know enough people to get in on these seed stage rounds? And probably less than 1% of ethereum ICO investors were "strategic" helpers etc. I think VCs fool themselves a lot of the times on their value add

for example...there was no such thing as "allocations" during the ethereum ICO. The idea of "allocations" is antithetical to crypto

Hey! Mike here. I was speaking not from the regulatory or VC perspective, but from the founder perspective. It's much better to have a couple investors who are knowledgable and can help you grow the business than 10,000 people with no particular expertise but have a say in your company. Hope that helps clarify :)

@@bellcurvepodcast Yup no worries, and I was largely agreeing with you - or at least not blaming you for it, more just lamenting the general situation and regulatory environment. I think an interesting thought experiment is: if we allowed unlimited ICOs again, i'm not sure how many companies would raise money looking for "knowledgable investors" , etc. Not that they aren't valuable, just that those type of knowledge VCs, networker VCs etc are mainly overvalued because regulations pigeonhole companies into basically accepting only that type of investor and not the masses that come with unregulated ICOs. I'd personally still like to democratize seed stage investing. Anyways, great video and I enjoy the podcast!
