Do not love the world or anything that belongs to the world. If you love the world, you do not love the Father. Everything that belongs to the world - what the sinful self desires, what people see and want, and everything in this world that people are so proud of - none of this comes from the Father; it all comes from the world. The world and everything in it that people desire is passing away; but those who do the will of God live for ever. 1 John 2:15‭-‬17 GNBUK But the Lord is faithful, and he will strengthen you and keep you safe from the Evil One. 2 Thessalonians 3:3 GNBUK😇 Repent of your sins now. What I love about this movie series is the micro detailing. Denzel sensing someone is climbing up his stairs, the key chain moves with the steps of the person outside, he times it and opens the door just when the person is right outside. Other scenes in the series- carefully folding the envelope in the Russian mob scene, closing the door 3 times to feel if it's thick enough to avoid the noise going outside, the train scene where he taps the tea glass 3 times. All these make the series much more palpable than other movies with guns blazing etc

What I find especially cool about this scene is that Robert has managed to mantain his facade of being a bland every day normal person who works at a hardware store, eats at the same diner every night and likes to read. No one is any the wiser. But after Teddy speaks with him for less than 5 minutes his immediate words are "Everything about him is wrong." Everyone around Robert thinks he's completely normal but Teddy sees right through the facade almost instantly. It just adds to how intimidating he is as a villain.

He wasn't trying to stay concealed at that point because he knew that serious people were involved. This is evident by the fact when he takes a step outside after asking for Teddy's card, and asks how did they find him. At that point both already knew what's what and the facade was gone.

Also the Russian dude was no real threat in h2h, he was for lack of mincing words - just an over confident thug that relied on goons to do his work. Not a fair comparison, IMO, to infer he was any real threat to McCall in h2h. McCall was a decorated US marine that went on to work in defense intelligence and blackops. We already saw feats of him dismantling people from low level thugs, all the way up to actual blackops operators in both films. not dismissing your post, that (what you stated) might of been the case if he was facing another McCall level threat. Very simple and effective scene. The idea that Teddy was intimidated is false though. If anything, him ascending the stairs to face Robert again was a confirmation move. He already had suspicion of him from the initial interaction but by Robert stepping out after asking the questions showing he wasn't fooled by the appearance gave Teddy exactly what he needed to start looking into him further. It truly was a great display of two forces cut from a similar clothe on opposite ends of the spectrum. Teddy already knew he wasn't dealing with someone easy to kill and Robert knew better than to waste another moment pondering anything else. For both of them it was green light from that moment on.

FINALLY someone who GETS This scene 👏!! Everyone is over embellishing The Robert Mccall character because they LIKE Denzel Washington as an actor. In reality Marton was the one who really carried this otherwise par for the course" Good guy plays avenging angel for the weak" formula. Washington is just playing a different various himself. The Teddy character however is truly riveting and thats because of Martons ability to capture the character totally. Teddy wasn't scared. Words, sudden movements, defiance etc....don't alarm a hardcore psychopath/ sociopath. He is a cold and ruthlessly effective killer who has seen war, committed and witnessed gross brutality because he thrived in that environment. He was merely assessing mccall as a true professional would and should do and he came to realize from Mccalls posture and bearing, that he underestimated his adversary. Now that he had confirmation to his questions, he calmly assessed the situation and left knowing how to further proceed as did Mccall. A man of that ilk like The Teddy character doesn't feel fear or gets rattled after dealing in death virtually from a child right up to Adulthood.

@@fitzgeraldanthony9333 Very well summed. I don't know why there are comments ranging from he was scared shitless to he left with his tail tucked. Nothing about Teddys demeanor struck as fearful. The look on his face at the moment Robert stepped to him told me "Ah. There you are... the REAL enemy." To most oblivious thugs, McCall is mild mannered and doesn't present the clear danger that he is. But to someone like Teddy, McCall is as dangerous as it gets. Neither wanted an all out assault at that moment. They both pretty much left the interaction moving with precision since it was game of information at that point. Information being, "Just WHO am I dealing with here?"

No Teddy did not feel one iota of fear from the Bob character. A man like the Teddy character doesn't feel fear. Words, sudden movements, defiance etc.... don't unsettle a psychopath. He comes from the same world that Mccall comes from and he's even more cold to death and doing grievous harm because he STAYED in that world that Mccall left behind. He's seen and performed horrible and brutal acts of violence on the battle field as we as being an enforcer for the Russian mafia which is an organization to not be trifled with in real time. Teddy never flinched or showed weakness. He did what a professional from his environment is supposed to do. He was assessing Washington, trying to get a read on him. Once Washington stepped up to him he began to realize that this is someone who traveled in similar dark place as himself. He coldly reassessed his previous judgements and quietly took it from there. The only thing that he pondered was what was the Mccall characters background. And here's where we have a major hole in the story. The Russian mafia with it's connections particularly in this movie could have surely gotten the Information that Teddy needed and then provided him with elite killers/ resources to make sure the job was done correctly. If anything the Teddy character was watered down because the actor who played him in my view upstaged Washington in several scenes. Denzel played the usual good guy part that fits his personality in a movie that played on the avenging angel theme. Nothing new here and frankly nothing new from Denzels performance. Marton however made this very interesting thanks to his talent of really capturing a character especially of this variety. The ending to this was extremely corny and ruined what could have been a much better final. Teddy was a VERY formidable adversary and was definitely battle tested. He goes out with a whimper and a truly predictable and cop out line when he asks Washington, Who are you? Mccall somehow gets the better of this very formidable foe as well as4 other highly trained operatives who are younger and in better condition. The ending did zero justice to this movie and a very capable adversary in Teddy.

I was a big fan of the original TV series and when I heard they were making a movie I was not expecting much but I have to say Mr. Washington did McCaul proud. These films are now amongst my favorite.

I wasn't a fan of the show at all, just didn't sit well with me for no good reason. I only watched the movie because of Denzel and holy shit was i unprepared for the badassness DW brought to the character in a film of this quality and detail - i knew he was super talented, but this was a side i hadn't seen. I am actually glad that Equalizer 2 was his first sequel, i would like to think that shows how he felt about the character and the movies too.

I was a fan of the series and don't feel they did it justice. Don't get me wrong, I liked the movie but they barely kept anything aside from the characters name...especially missed that iconic theme music. Would've rather they call Denzel's character something different so someone could do a proper Equalizer sequel or remake one day...then they spit out that Queen Latifah nonsense and pretty much ruined the franchise for all time... :-(

@@chaburchak fair comment, especially the music, even McCaul's black Jag would have been nice. I guess I liked it because I expected them to make Denzel's character softer if you know what I mean, not with the killer instinct the character originally had but they didn't McCaul was as cold and tough as always. I agree a few more nods to the series would have been nice. One point if you were remaking the series what actor would you have play the lead?

When he says "she fell down and broke her neck", he was measuring Denzel's response. Martin knew that Denzel would easily tell that, that was not the case. Just an intimidation move to see if he would back up and take a big gulp with his eyes wide open, or, say "really?" with a wry smile. When he said "really?", Martin turns and says "we'll be in touch". What he wanted to say was "we have you ALL fucked up in our assessment, and now I am afraid that you are going to kill us all". Lol
