THATS WHY HAYMITCH LIKES KATNISS....because she is so much like him
@victoriaabraham9423
4 жыл бұрын
He actually didn't like her at first *because* she was like him 😅 He prefered Peeta over her and that's why he was so heartbroken when he had to choose to help Katniss in the 74th hunger games because she had more chances to win. He really felt bad for not helping him, Peeta is nicer, right after the announcement of the 75th hunger games he came to see Haymitch to ask him to volonteer as tribute, but Katniss did it way later and even drank with him. He liked Peeta more, Katniss was too much like him.

• Shydreameress • thats not true at all. in the games he only bothers helping katniss. sending only her food and supplies in arena. and throughout the entire series he shows preference to katniss over peeta. he does make a promise to katniss but he also makes one to peeta, that they would do whatever they could to make sure katniss lives. this is the one he keeps. he gets her out of the arena of the quarter quell leaving peeta to die in the hands of the capitol. he understands that peeta is good in ways that katniss is not, but he still prefers her. both because she reminds of himself, but i also have a slight theory (that may not be true) that she reminds him a bit of maisilee, who he couldnt save in his game. ultimately, peetas line to katniss, “you have no idea the effect you have” rings true in haymitch’s favor for her.

Haymitch survived against more tributes than any other tribute. He is the only tribute to be reaped for two Quarter Quells. He is the only mentor to ever get two victors. And unlike every other mentor, he was able to witness his victors grow older in a world without Hunger Games.
@taylorschott4659

And he openly mocked the capital at multiple times, used their own force feild as a weapon and on top of all that he was used as a cautionary tale for future tributes that might try something similar. Haymitch will likely stay in everyone,s mind as one of the hunger games most infamous victors for years to come, even long after he dies. but knowing him, that's probably a legacy he,d be proud of.

I love how katniss and haymitch have theses things in common -they were chosen in the hunger games -both are victors -they made the capitol look like a fool -they both got threats from Snow (although Katniss’ family lived) They faced so much hurt but Katniss had an opportunity that haymitch never had, Haymitch never had anyone to teach and help him through the games. Haymitch was so invested in making katniss change her behavior for the interviews and stuff is because she was acting kinda how he acted which made him a thorn in the side of Snow and he paid for it, he couldn’t bare to see the same thing happen with katniss but he wasn’t able to stop it. I think haymitch is my absolute favorite character. He means what he says, he cares deeply for people and will do everything to help the people he cares for, hell he even kinda learns to stand Effie and cut back on drinking after all was said and done
One of my favorite bits in the movies was how Haymitch was so visibly drunk at the beginning and then, when it is clear there might be a chance at success, he actually stops drinking. A very subtle piece of acting. Chatter, discussion, an avox comes along to pour him a drink and he covers up the glass. Genius.
Haymitch: I drink to forget but I always remember! Seriously, I want to hug Haymitch.

When does he say that? also, does anyone else wish there could have been a bit where Haymitch got upset and let Katniss comfort him?!
When Haymitch voted for the Hunger Games with the Capitol’s children he said “I’m with the mockingjay” after Katniss voted “yes, for Prim” because he knew and came to the same realization that Katniss: Coin was worse than Snow, she killed Prim and sacrificed her own soldiers, and nothing was going to change, she only cared for power. He knew Katniss was going to do something about it (when she mentioned Prim), that was the reason of his brilliant response (he didn’t said yes because he meant to say I fully support you, not Coin). I loved the connection they had.

I feel like Haymitch was severely traumatized and yeah he definitely was suffering fro PTSD, he couldn't help his victors and he chose not to get close to them out of comfort cuz he didn't want anymore heartbreak when the inevitable happened and they'd die. If anything I think Haymitch came out of his shell when he got to know Katniss and Peeta, so he worked tirelessly to save their lives even during the rebellion. He's a misunderstood character that's in pain with mental traumas. In the end at least he got to live out his days in peace.

Haywitch became the father figure to Peeta and Katniss.
Think about the fact that until Katniss and Peeta won, Haymitch was the only winner for district 12, so he would have spent years mentoring children whom he knew he was sending off to die, every single year. He watched 48 children die before he met Katniss and Peeta.

Actually there was lucy gray braid won before the 10th hunger games. The movie came out for that
It should be noted that Lucy Gray Baird was the only other District 12 victor, not some man like he says in the video. She was a character in the 2019 prequel, The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.

Well done for using the fan clips of the Hunger Games before the movies came out. The fan clips had way more of an emotional impact on me because I cared about these people, all of them, and in the movies they kind of glossed over that until Mockingjay came out. This is great, thanks.

Depending on the district, he would see them as a threat. If the victor was a career, he would not do anything to them because careers are more known, liked, and rich and so doing anything towards them is a risk he's not willing to do. I never understood the capitol being upset by haymitch using the forcefield to his advantage. If anything, it added some creativity to the Games that I would normally think the capitol would’ve enjoyed to see
@carolinepersons4260
Жыл бұрын
I agree, but I think the reason the capitol wouldn’t want things like that to happen has to do with culpability. If the tributes kill each other, the capitol can say this is normal, human nature. Haymitch using the force field made the capitol responsible for the death of a beloved career. (Arguably, the capitol is responsible for all of those deaths and so much worse, but the capitol audience isn’t going to see it that way)
After the prequel, we know 12 didn't have a mentor, at least not one from their district. I wonder who mentored the district 12 tributes until haymitch won
@bryces.4204

I’d want to say they probably just had a capital worker more of ushering them around and didn’t care to really mentor them. 12 was just viewed as canon fodder that died in the initial blood bath anyways.
You forgot Haymitch's geese! He had a bunch of geese after the war and Katniss said that it's a good thing that geese can mostly take care of themselves. So the fam was Katniss, Peeta, their babies, Haymitch and his geese :D

He outsmarted the gamemakers and made the capitol look weak. The districts are supposed to be under the capitol’s thumb and if a little nobody from district 12 can outsmart them in front of all the districts, especially during an event that was manufactured to punish the districts from previously rebelling, it might start stirring the pot for another rebellion. That’s why they punished him, so they could squash out any chance of him being seen as a figurehead for an insurrection. Like what happened with Katniss and the berries, it showed that the capitol wasn’t all powerful and gave the districts hope for change.

And the arena has to end _somewhere_ I doubt he was the only tribute to have found the edge of the arena. And he didn't exactly go _looking_ for it.
