The Earliest Harvest We Can Remember | Homestead Vlog | July 1, 2024
Today we are getting up our potatoes, the vines are dead and if we leave them they could possibly rot or sprout. This is the earliest either of us remember our potatoes being ready! We are a little concerned with them keeping throughout the heat, but we will do the best we can! Tonight for supper we are having simple baked chicken legs, leftover green beans with new potatoes, stewed squash and FRESH corn!! We are so thankful for our beautiful potato harvest!

Barefoot and driving a tractor while his dad encourages him- core memory created. This is the stuff he’ll reminisce about when he’s an old man.

Fantastic to see the family working together. The boy did great on the tractor and was so proud of himself. Great self-esteem builder! Maggie is a doll! ❤
Thank you guys for teaching your children what life is really about, the love of family!
Meagan, I just know your beautiful momma’s heart was “swoll up” 😉💜 watching your dear husband teach y’all’s son on that tractor. Watching generational knowledge being shared, what a gift. Knowing this is a skill that will help him to care for himself and his own family once he’s grown. It’s a privilege to watch, and a beautiful sight for this old grandmas heart. I pray every day that this world will get back to focusing on family, on being more neighborly, and most of all, living as Jesus intended for us. Your beautiful, young family gives me hope. Thank you for sharing your life with us. I pray you inspire more and more young folks to do the same. God bless you all and everyone who reads this. ~Lisa

I love this family ❤
..baby girl is acting like she's hunting easter eggs..what a treat to see young people acting like picking potatoes isn't a chore or hard labor...😌..
That was a great tater harvest. Jacob did a fine job on the tractor plowing up the last row, he handled it well. It'll take a while to get that smile of his face but that's okay. Maggie did an awesome job picking up the potatoes too. That supper was divine, all that awesome fresh veggies prepared just right, what a treat for all the hard work involved growing it. Great job Megan. You all stay safe and keep up the good videos. Fred.
Never get enough of watching these videos! What a joy this family is. Enjoyed watching Jacob drive that tractor, p,owing up those potatoes, doing just like dad told him. GOOD JOB JACOB! Maggie, you’re a good helper too!
The scene at 30:50 would be a beautiful portrait! The life of country kids in my opinion is priceless. They learn so many life lessons. Yall are awesome parents! Keep up the great work! This is why yall are my favorite channel.❤
The joy on that sweet child's face was just so beautiful! I'm watching and cheering him on! It was just like Andy's excitement for that first taste of corn! 😂 Great video today! ❤❤
The potatoe harvest looks great and Jacob did a fantastic job. Both the children are so smart & talented for their ages. I know you guys are so proud of them. ❤
Taters look great for the drought we’ve had. God is good ❤
That little Maggie is always so enthusiastic 😊

That girl is gonna be worth her weight in gold someday
Maggie using the trailer wheel as a ladder made me chuckle. She's a little peanut. Jacob is in his glory running the tractor . Parents take note these folks are doing it right.
Corn looks fabulous. ❤ 🌽 Supper looks delicious. Yummy!!! I'm going to start praying for you all and your neighbors to start getting some nice rain showers. 🌧
Potatoes look amazing!! Jacob did a great job. We finally got some rain last night here in East TN. Hopefully, some will come your way asap. I never tire of your videos. I love your family and especially the patience and encouragement you show your children. ❤️🙏🏻
Fun fact: Andy is actually pulling a “rotary cutter” through his taters, not a bush hog.(that’s not a criticism, me and everybody I know call them all bush hogs too!)Bush Hog is a brand name, and was invented, and the company founded, in Selma Alabama in 1951. “Bush Hog” has become the colloquial name for all rotary cutters, much like all tissues are Kleenex regardless of who made them. Bush Hog has been in continuous operation in Selma (my hometown) since it opened, and continues to this day. I actually played on the Bush Hog sponsored little league baseball team while growing up in Selma. If you’re ever down that way, stop by, and then eat some of the best BBQ you’ve ever had at Lannie’s right around the corner!

Hahaha I know that, I just can't seem to say rotary cutter though, always known it as a bush hog
So glad to see Jacob encouraged about running the tractor. Go JACOB go.
Love it, everyone working and no fighting or yelling only respect ❤️❤️❤️ good job kids❤️❤️🌽🌽🌽
Good job little man teaching them young. He will always have them memories. Good job mama and daddy.
I know one thing, your children will not be afraid of hard work when they get older. Hard work builds character. ❤
Luv watching your videos ❤ shows how you can raise your own crops, the hard work that goes into it, an what your reward becomes ❤
Love your videos! Girl…a knife company needs to send you a chef knife to chop and cut veggies. I used my favorite boning knife for years 😂. About 7 years ago, my husband bought me a really nice chef knife for my birthday and it has been life changing! I cook everyday and it’s been so helpful and made things so much faster! Your garden looks beautiful! I’m experimenting today…I let my yard long beans go too long and thought well, I’ll shell them and see how the beans are.
I pray we all get some rain 🌧️. We need it here in Tennessee too. Tomatoes are doing good but squash and everything else is dieing.
Much love to your family from Appalachia Kentucky.
I love the way Andy gets so excited over the corn!! So cute. And Meghan, you are always so sweet and supportive. You guys are so enjoyable to watch. Thank you!!
Tractor games and not video games, now that's the way to make a strong young man.

I am watching this from a overcrowded Britain . Just enjoying a Loving family on their own land , enjoying the freedom and food they have. 😊 PS it's not stopped raing here for nearly a year. I think we have had around 10 dry days.
☕❤️☕ Morning Y'all. And thanks for sharing
As a child of the 50's, my favorite chore was digging potatoes with a hoe. They were stored in our cellar. We depended on what we grew to get through the winter months. I am thankful for all farmers.
Hey y’all🖐🏻
Those sweet babies work just as hard as the two of you. That's good teaching them that hard work pays off.
I can almost imagine how sweet that corn will be with some homemade butter. Lucky yall
So proud of your kids!! They are so helpful
Good potato harvest for dry weather. Great job Jacob plowing potatoes out. You are teaching him good working skills. Love watching your video. We need rain for our corn crop too.
The corn did look really good. I think he had a little bit of biscuit with his jelly lol! That's a great potato harvest.
Your going to force me to stop watching your channel. We can't figure a way to get me a plate of your food. Please know I'm kidding. I'm living my dreams thru yall. Hope yall have a great 4th of July. 😅

Thank you all so much for what you're teaching us with each video. Your info is so valuable and appreciated for those of us new to homesteading but also for those of us who are remaining teachable.
This is the most awesome thing I've ever seen, that ya'll teach your children how to survive off the land and love watching ya'll.
Good job Maggie and Jacob helping harvest the potatoes! You got a pretty good harvest considering how the weather has been.
The corn looked delicious! Teaching your precious children to work is so important. Jacob is already a great tractor driver.
Good morning !! Thank you !!
Jacob's smile...❤
I can remember picking up potatoes as a child this brings back memories.
I love fresh corn when it’s young & tender like that! One of the best things of summer.💕💕
Hey friends. Love you all. God Bless. ❤🙏
Question for Andy. Since un’s live in Lawsonville NC, did Andy’s family establish the town? Just curious.

I can only thumbs-up the video once but the sweet corn, biscuits-the whole dinner plate. Great job folks!
Jacob, you did an amazing job driving the tractor! Smart young man.
Was in kitchen cutting veggies and listening to yall . Heard "U keep that silver hood ornament lined up with that row." Guy's , Lost it laughing, and the memory of my first time driving on paved road with yellow lines, " Keep that hood ornament on that line, don't look away." , the man who cared told me. Love n Grace to yall.
Seeing the kids barefoot reminds me of some of my childhood. I love your channel and Family, thanks for sharing!
The best way to butter your corn on the cob is to butter up a slice of bread, then roll your hot corn in it. Then you get nice buttered corn and bread to eat.Yum!

When I was little, we kids vied for that piece of bread!
I just Love to watch y'all!! That supper looked sooo good!! I know Andy was proud of his corn. I'm older than y'all but watching y'all and your family reminds me so much of my childhood when I was a kid with my siblings and my momma and daddy would work so hard to grow gardens to feed us. That was back in the 70s 80s. We worked hard back then when those gardens started coming in. God bless all
I could watch y’all all day, there’s nothing better than fried corn and fried potatoes with some bacon! Yum,makes your mouth water😊 Y’all are raising beautiful kids.
I loved the sound of you picking corn too! I love shucking it and the smell of fresh corn! Central NC finally got about an inch of rain Sunday afternoon! Praise the Lord!! Love your channel! Reminds me of growing up on the farm!
Look at all those taters 👍 I made fried potatoes & onions as a side dish for supper 😁 We love them any way you can make them… Good job plowing up those potatoes Jacob👍👍👍 Hi Maggie your such a great helper💞 Take care
Omg!! I loved watching those kids!! Maggie I'm in love with you little darling! You worked hard picking up those potatoes!! Perfect tractor driving Jacob!!
Your whole family works very hard and it must be wonderful seeing the fruit of your labors 😊
I've been pumping water from the creek with soaker hoses. Finally got some extremely light rain a few nights ago but almost all night. Then yesterday we got a 20 minute gully washer! My stuff is late anyway. Corn about a foot high and taters still green and some with bloom still. So I pray it works in my favor. Good luck to y'all!
Makes me smile really big to watch the potatoes roll out of the dirt and watch those kids doing such a great job!!
What a harvest, and from only 6 roses. I was excited to see them dug with the tractor. Never seen that before. Jacob seems to have the gift for sure. Maggie is a real trooper. Praying your harvests this season will be more than you need. That corn looked amazing too.
When we did red, gold potatoes they hardly ever did as good as the white ones . Great seeing family work together ❤😊
I put an ear of corn in the microwave with shucks on and do four minutes per ear, comes out great. I’m a 78 year old woman and that’s how I learned to drive a tractor, with my daddy walking beside me.
You may need to build a root cellar for all of those potatoes !
Good Morning! I love your videos ❤
Sayin prayers for rain, from Oregon. We will be happy to share😊
What a great result ! And the younger ones were a great help. All the best to you
How fun you all are to watch! Truly love your family life, and hard work together.

we didn't weigh them but I'd say we got at least 8-9 bushels
That’s a pretty good potato crop for the dry weather. Dry here in NC and it has been tough on my garden also. Your son is pretty proud of his tractor driving skills and he did a great job. Thanks for all your good videos. God Bless.
Great video. I learned a few things from it that I'll know how to store potatoes ❤
Love watching the channel! Love watching the kids helping!
Here on Vancouver Island Canada BCI leave my potatoes right in the ground all winter cover them up with Maple leaves and dig them as I use them during the winter last year though I didn't eat any potatoes out of the garden because I get a 5 pound bag from the food bank every month that's too many potatoes for me as it is but this year I'm digging all new potatoes because the two potato gardens I got are absolutely full of potatoes crazy full but I sure like all the new potatoes I got them a yummy so I go out and dig a bucket of potatoes every week of new small baby potatoes so the very tiny ones back into the ground and I don't have to buy potato starts i've only bought potato starts one year and that was the first year I started from then on I just put the little tiny tiny ones back in the ground and I get potatoes every year and no they're not in rows and no I don't hump up the rows they say if you have at least six inches of loose dirt you don't have to hump your potatoes so I don't bother with thumping the potatoes maybe I don't get as many potatoes from a plant I don't know I get enough potatoes from them
That epic sky behind you when you’re talking about cover cropping your tater patch.

This is by far my favorite channel!
I really enjoyed this. Great family values.
When I was his age I had to drive the tractor for my dad while he operated the plow and I was his daughter and drive the truck with a load of grain on and my baby sister laying on the seat beside me I could hardly see over the steering wheel the truck was had a clutch and a gear shift that was like in around 1950s my parents used to put the potatoes in dugout basement …enjoy your videos and your family ❤ coming from southern Ontario Canada 🇨🇦
Add a can of Campbell s Mushroom soup to.that squash casseroles! Delicious 😋!
Hard workin family right here! Just love to watch y’all’s vids!❤
Hoping this year, will actually SHOW people that things are rapidly becoming different. The seasons, unpredictable weather, we will probably have to make some major changes in growing food. I’ve noticed over the last several years but now, everybody is noticing that things are not like they were when we were younger. I suppose we will come up with some solutions together, as we go forward. ❤
If you are in there repairing your plow, maybe put some re-rod finger wings the dirt can fall through and more potatoes sift out on top. Look up potato digger videos for ideas.
I think of Jason Aldean’s Fly over States. “Met the Man Who plowed that earth, planted that seed, busted his ass for you and me” My favorite song. Here is the man!! (And family)
Hey Y’all, I got my T-shirts the other day and they are fantastic. My girlfriend who lives a little further up the mountain from me wanted to wear hers to church! I know y’all don’t have much spare time, but we sure would buy more Appalachian Grit merch! Keep up the great videos! Dwight and Audie Belle.
Love your videos so much.Pray you get rain soon.
That was a good video Jacob, you did a super duper job and Maggie your a big helper too 👏👏 the corn 🌽 look beautiful and delicious 😋
I'm SO excited for you! Corn and taters is almost all we need! 😂 I just picked up 60 ears of FRESH corn on the cob from our localism Amish farmers. I have never in my life tasted better and the fact that it's gmo free makes me super happy! There were only a few corn worms in my 69 ears.... which is crazy. From another farm almost every other ear had worms. Yuk.
Your a good father.
West Phoenix The early growing season is over because of the heat. Our second season starts in late September, thru to Dec/Jan depending on frost. We rarely go below 40. I call this time our WINTER because of the HEAT.
New sub. Just lived this video. Your boy must feel 10 feet tall. Nice work all.
