I know a girl who worked as a sound technician on the show and she said that practically everyone in the studio broke down in tears when they filmed the help me scene. I think its safe to assume they did it justice

One thing to keep in mind (especially with visuals like the scene where Nami's wig stands out), this was just a teaser trailer, and even actual trailers frequently have scenes that either don't make it into the final version or are slightly different. So basically, let's just wait and see if it still looks odd in the final product, and remember that teaser trailers are more about showing the vibe.

wellthe vibe i got was "Dogshit characterization of beloved characters" only one that seems alright is zoro and even then its only because hes doing zoros bullshit stoicisim he got after being beat by mihawk, so even thats fucked, we didnt even hear from usopp or sanji and seeing as how those two are the only ones to get major character changes (eyebrows and nose) i have far less hope for it, i dont give a fuck, the eyebros are a key detail to sanji. I can live without the nose, but i refuse to change on the brows. its gonna be dogshit and i genuinly hope this sinks netflix.

Koushiro should be obviously Japanese, Kuro should've been Korean and Mihawk should've been either Asian or Hispanic. Yet they're certified whiteboys. Even who they cast as Kuina isn't full Asian if shes even Asian at all. Even besides all of that, you know the fact that its a japanese show with obvious Asian characters that they turned white, how can you look at Sanji and think that is in any shape or form accurate? I feel like the issue of adaptation to live action is that with one piece it'll only get harder and harder to adapt as time goes on. Like you said One Piece is an incredibly cartoony series and that makes it really hard to translate to live action. And the issue is that it only gets more and more cartoony as time goes on. I'll admit that East Blue might be the easiest to adapt and this show could be great for all I know. But with every island that they travel to in the grand line, things only get weirder and crazier. Like I feel like it's going to be hard to have main characters in the cast like Chopper and Brook and Franky with their insane proportions and just everything about them and have them not look horrible in live action.

Mother's Basement recommended getting the Jim Henson company to do Age of Resistance-style puppets, costumes and animatronics and honestly I can't really see a better way without absolutely destroying their CGI budget.

I think everything pre-timeskip is doable. It’s when you get past the timeskip where it gets way too bizarre.

I think they add the filter so the esthetic would be easier to handle in live action form. With too many color being too saturated, it could be tricky to make the scene look legit (aka everything work harmoniously together and very at home) and not some cheap, over the top fan cosplays where everything clashes with everything else.

My guess with Nami based on the trailer is there is only 1 boat to escape with after Alvida so Nami reluctantly goes with Luffy and Coby and has seen more of who he is before deciding to join which helps make her decision to save Luffy from Buggy make more sense in a live action setting since putting her life along with her village on the line for a man she met only 5 minutes ago wouldn't make too much sense. It isn't that different from the anime which had her see Luffy when escaping from Alvida which wasn't in the manga.

I new a guy who worked with Oda and apparently when he saw the final cut he pissed all over it and then said it was amazing

Iñaki GOAT! Honestly. I think he is able to pull it off in no small part because he’s Mexican. We genuinely talk like that and it’s not exaggerated or “cringe” so it comes off as sincere

One Piece is a fun anime. It always portrays as a fun, bizarre/absurd silly-goofy show...all in all it's fun to watch. Just don't put too much comparison with the live action film and the Anime & manga. One Piece has always been a light-hearted action adventure anime, it never tried to depict deep intense stories...so I hope the writers will keep that in mind. Luffy's crew is a fun bunch, the best thing of the anime, pls portray that in the movie. I am actually excited for the movie.

After weeks of just getting more and more information and scenes from the show leading up to the release, I think I’m glad they didn’t make Sanji’s eyebrows curly or Usopp’s nose. Not only would it be harder to deal with when it comes to fight choreography, especially the nose, but I feel like the more you look at stuff like that on your screen the more you realize it looks really fake or stands out. Idk that’s just me

Greatest la. I mean, I’ll think it’s the best tv show, but others will def disagree with you.

My biggest problem with the live action is that they're playing it too safe (in their minds). They have removed everything "too wacky", which is a fundamental core of what makes One Piece what it is, and swapped out Oda's unique sense of humor with standard Marvel banter. They should have gone all out giving Usopp his long nose, the Merry more cutesey, Sanji having his twirl brow, Luffy's portrayal more source correct as a boy of few (but blunt and stupid) words and all the characters more goofy gag type reactions. Those who'd argue that it doesn't work are just not suitable to make it in technical terms or have enough faith in Oda's humor for it to go well outside Japan (even though the manga and anime being such a hit says otherwise), go find someone that is confident and creative enough about being able to. And the "for a wider audience" argument is BS as One Piece already has one of the biggest audiences on the planet, no need to expand for it to make serious bank.

Honestly agree with you, this show has zero chance. They showed zero scenes from fishman island. No fishmen so either arlong Park isn’t in season 1 or the fishman cgi is that bad, idk I have this feeling they are gonna use the fight with zoro and mihawk as the finale of sorts, maybe use nami leaving the crew as a cliffhanger. But if not then arlong Park is gonna be a visual horror show. I have little faith in cgi hachi and cgi arlong

One piece is like the live action of Flintstones, GRINCH or Adam's Family. Basically will be a little "kinder campy". You should watch this like an "alice in wonderland" or "wizard of oz" type of movie.

Not saying arlong park is not a great ark. But it was barratie that hooked me personally the fact that it captured how cooks act in a Kitchen or at least every kitchen I have work in

The color that they decided to give the live action is brilliant and perfect in my opinion and I have seen other people saying that they don't like it but it seems that they do not understand the thematic decision behind the color palette, if you look closely the color is medium yellow like the dawn and the first arc of the manga is the romance dawn , luffy represents the sun and he and his crew represent the dawn of a new era and the end of the darknes perpetuated by the world government that is why i love the color palette It is thematically perfect, especially for this first season.

@@pedro6720 although obviously I don't know why they chose that color I am a film producer and I can assure you that what I said is not far from the possibility, all the great filmmakers think in that way and deeply about things that a normal person who watches a movie thinks that It is "easy and not so deep" so believe me that the color they are using they thought about before deciding why and surely they considered the type of things that I mentioned.

I didn't hate the trailer, which is the biggest praise I can give, given that I never expected to like the Netflix adaptation to begin with. This story is way too important for me (I've been reading/watching One Piece since I was like 11 or 12 and I just recently turned 34, I've known the Strawhats for longer than I've known most of my friends at this point) so since they first announced this project I already knew that regardless of what they did, it was going to rub me the wrong way, regardless of it's quality. BUT that being said, I can't deny it looks more promising than I expected. As you say in your video, the heart of One Piece has always been the Strawhats and they seem to have find the right actors for the job (I agree Iñaki looks unexpectedly promising as Luffy), so, you know, better than expected already. And I agree with your fear for this series because that's also my biggest complaint with the trailer, they seem to have grounded the background while still commiting to faithfulness in the costume designs and it just looks a bit off. I personally think the backgrounds look great (even if less colorful than the manga), they seem to have hitted the sweet-spot between realism and cartoony in my opinion and they seem to have gone for their own personal take on the OP world, which is great... but then Nami looks like someone cosplaying as her, and the Strawhat looks too clean and too... cheap? I don't know. They don't seem to have adapted the costumes so they don't seem to fit well and everything ends up looking kind of off and kind of weird IMO. But that being said, I'll definitely watch the first season when it drops. Because I think this project deserves a chance even if is something I don't expect to like very much (because that's mostly my problem) and I know how important those early views are for Netflix. And I just hope it's as good as it can be, and if it helps bring more attention to my favourite story then that's a win.

YO why didn't they get the people who made the Speed Racer movie to do this? That movie was incredible at how it conveyed anime vibes and expressions on a live action screen. The color and effects where poppin' and it just played like an anime

Yeah that "Mexican Western" filter is a bit grading... not really sure whose decision that was. It's completely unnecessary. And the Flying Lamb figurehead. Yikes. But still, this will be a wild ride. I'm sure twitter will blow up...

My big take away for live action adaptations is if the spirit of the source material is able to shine through, that's a big draw for me and I don't mind departures from the source as long as it's done in respect. It's a huge part of why I really love Hideaki Anno's Cutie Honey movie rather than Cutie Honey: Tears which premiered years later despite both being LA adapts that took liberties with their source. Anno's adapt kept the spirit and even went back to his Tokusatsu loving roots with the characters esp loved how cheesy everything seemed to be in contrast to how serious the script had been. In terms of American adapts tho, im very cautious as Alita and Speed Racer are what I feel were the best done by an overseas director/s. In all honesty, One Piece's adapt could be very good if they remember to keep the spirit of the source in tact and keep the whimsical outfits I've seen from a lot of characters. Like not everything needs to be down in the dumps and serious so I might give this a watch as I'm reading the source.

Think the washed out filter tone might actually work in it's favour when the tone gets serious, wich is what I'm hoping for and not just be for kids only.

I waiting until the show actually comes out to see if its worth giving a chance. Especially since Netflix's track record of Live Action shows based of popular Anime/Manga, I still have aot of skepticisms about it.

I find it funny how rare it is mentioned, but for me it all comes down to how fast can I get used to the non-japanese voices. The rest of the pie I can swallow, regardless of the filling.

I feel like op live action should be watched in a different logical mindset than in anime non logic mindset that don’t follow reality

I have a lot of issues with the netflix live-action adaptation of one piece. Some of the things just look off and don't translate well as a live-action show. I've made my peace that some things just aren't possible considering the source material and world it's set in, but at the same time I think there is so much that the trailers got right and did well. I really hope that my issues with the adaptation will fade away while watching the actual show.

I am ambivalent about the show going into it when I watch it. Some parts about the trailer I liked and others I disliked. One major dislike I can't stand is the way the Inaki said gum gum pistol, it just feels so off.

When it comes to adaptation you cant take every thing that's silly about one piece and implement it into live action, it just wouldn't make sense. Live action is a different medium and is for different people. It has different strengths and weaknesses compared to animation and thus should play into those strengths.

Well when you have 150M budget but you really need like a 200M budget and need to increase it every season

I hope it's more stage-play and less live-action remake. It seems stage-play like based on the character acting and the costume design, but the ugly coloring and "cinematic" camera shots scream live-action remake.

I dont think theres anyway theyd be able to without huge timejumps cutting out tons of content as the actors will age considerably between seasons. By season 3 or 4 they will be like 6 or 7 years older. If by some chance they get to new world arcs, the actors would be 10 plus years older and no longer look like young adults.

It could potentially best Anime live action adaptation ever and Netflix really made a come back from having that awful death note live action.

The issue I have with the existence of this show has less to do with it specifically, but more so with an issue I’ve had with entertainment in general in recent years. WHAT IS THE OBSESSION WITH MAKING THINGS LIVE ACTION??? I really don’t get it. Everything is live action adaptations now and it really doesn’t make any sense. What’s the point of animation even existing if you’re going to try to make it live action? Why not have animated adaptations of live action movies and shows? Animation and live action lend themselves to different forms of visual storytelling that’s unique unto them, so it makes no sense why so why so much effort is being put into making a series about an already existing series that isn’t only insanely popular, but is still currently going on. Not only that, but the series is so cartoonish that in order to make it live action certain changes r needed so it doesn’t look so weird. So as a result the story loses part of what made it special and what it makes it it. So it’ll just be a shell if what it already is. And for what? For the sake of making it in live action! Cuz that’s the new craze, and it allows for these properties to be milked to death with how much money they can make.

Tldr: netflix *could* suck

for the little things they are doing i hope they don't try to make the acting on the expression too cartony and instead any shenanigans the cast get into together be more focused on the fact that they are are technically still teenagers, a good example some of the interaction and reactions are exaggerated in the anime for comedy where as here I hope they take more realistic approach or as realistic as they can get , in the anime zoro and sanji fight over little things and amp it up to 10 with the cartony way of bickering, where as here i hope they tone it down and just translate it to them having realistic yet petty fights and getting on each others nerves but not going so goofy " you see them into be covered by a dust cloud as they fight and wrestle and you can hear them call each other childish nicknames", or like with nami she has over expressive angry reactions played up for when the rest of the crew is kind of acting goofy and just down right stupid, and again I hope in the show I hope they just play off some of that anger as her being ticked off and kind of struggling to keep the peace in a crew with mostly guys, also I know everyone might not like the pacing of the series but I do hope they take certain route when making some of the other charters join luffy and don't make it to unrealistic since they don't have that many episodes to show of their dynamic and how they work well together , zoro nami and luffy are shown to not fully accept or agree on the idea of becoming a crew unlike the different pacing in the anime, what im hoping for is that they take the time in the series to show even in jut little aspect or moments, how the characters can grow to trust and look after one another and even become friends and in the end some what respect luffy as their captain,as a one piece fan I agree that the show wont be everyone's cup of tea, but when the full trailer comes out I think that will realy be the last nail on the coffin or a beacon of hope depending whether you are a die hard fan, and average watcher of the anime, or just a person that has never watched or read anything one piece related

This is the issue because the goofiness is an integral function in the one piece universe, the show will not have the same charm. Just think about all the different whacky character designs there are, all the whack df attacks, I just don’t see this show living up to the hype

@@piratekingluffy376 I know that the goofiness is a integral part and it shall be missed I just really really really hope they don't make it weird or uncanny if that makes sense, it obviously wont live up to the hype, that is clear to me but for all the hard work they put into the show I hope some parts can be note worthy and pleasing to some fans, I guess what im trying to say is that I hope it finds a nice home right down the middle you know? not so amazing that everyone's like " this is even better than the original!!! :0" ( because lets be honest I don't see that happening) but not so bad everyone's like " this is straight up garbage and cringe!!!! I hate one piece now!!! and the actors suck!!!!" , but then again all we can do is wait and see
