The Differences Between ARROW and [old] VEKOMA Coasters

Today weʻre going to examine the classic u-shaped track used by many manufacturers. The two main users of this track style are Arrow Dynamics and Vekoma. Today, Iʻll show you how you can tell the difference between an Arrow and an (old) Vekoma coaster. You may also learn how Arrow and Vekoma create their coasters, the history of both companies, and how these manufacturers are now.

Some things I’d like to point out: You mentioned that the lift hills on Vekoma’s coasters are pretty silent compared to the ones on Arrow’s coasters. However that is not usually the case, as the lift hill on Batwing at Six Flags America sounds similar to that of a construction jackhammer. Also, Drachen Fire wasn’t removed immediately in 1998. It stood SBNO until 2002 when it was eventually removed and sold for scrap. It was hoped that it would be relocated to another park, but no parks wanted to buy it, so off to the scrapyard it went. Plus, Ninja at Six Flags St. Louis was originally one of the star attractions of Expo 86 in Vancouver, where it was known as “Scream Machine”. After Expo 86 concluded, it was packed up and shipped off to Six Flags St. Louis, and was renamed to “Ninja”. Also, X2 opened in January 2002, a month after Arrow filed for Bankruptcy for what would be the final time. X2 did have a pass holder opening on Christmas Eve day of 2001. Plus it was supposed to have opened in the summer of that year but many mechanical issues caused its opening to be delayed until after 2001 turned to 2002.

If I'm not mistaken, the only place where you can find Arrow coasters in Europe is at Blackpool Pleasure Beach, so if you're in Europe, there's a 99% chance it's a Vekoma coaster. Both manufacturers were big innovators in their own way. Anyway thanks for the video, I've always had a hard time figuring out which manufacturer it was between Arrow and Vekoma.

I'm glad this video helped! From what I've found, most of the Arrows in Europe are at Blackpool. According to rcdb, there's one at PortAventura and one at Chessington World of Adventures. But that still pales in comparison to the many Vekomas in Europe. And I do agree that both manufacturers innovated throughout their lifetime!

vekoma is a very flexible company which is why they have a good relation with disney e.g: Expedition Everest, Big Thunder Mountain.( disney.fandom.com/wiki/Vekoma (short list with all disney vekoma coasters)) you wouldn't recognise them as vekoma based on their track. also to combat the argument of not innovating vekoma built the worlds first tilt coaster, wich is currently the only one to go 90 degrees.
