Crazy how with just Maradona Argentina was a contender to win the World Cup but without him they wouldn’t make it past the group the stage.

Perhaps Diego is not the most regular, nor the fastest, nor the most disciplined, nor the most winner in titles, but he is undoubtedly the most talented footballer who has ever existed and will probably exist!

As a kid growing up in the poorest parts of Africa in the 80's, I've since watched many gifted and talented players come and go (including his current Argentine predecessor, who I'm a massive fan of) but for me there was and will ONLY ever be one footballing icon🙏😍. I've NEVER in my life, felt like a big part of my childhood went away, with the passing of a famous person....until this week 😢

If Maradona the Great had not fallen victim to promiscuous lifestyle and had kept his physique fit,as Ronaldo or Messi does now, the hotly debated question of the greatest football player of all time, whether Pele or Maradona, would not have arisen because after the WC1986 when the press asked Pele whether Maradona had surpassed him in the game the legend didn't deny it, instead, gave the evasive answer that the geniuses are unique and cannot be compared . Only Maradona could win a WC in the entire history with such an average team in1986.Had he been healthy and his ankle free from problem the final result of the world cup 1990 would definitely have been different! Any nation will dream of having a citizen like Maradona!Win both the youth and senior world cups of the most popular, the toughest fought game, almost single handedly,for one's country and become the best player of the world in both! Amazing! Rest in peace the greatest and the most, universally accepted and loved football player of all time!

IMO he was a better leader who stood tall with his presence, leadership skill and despite being badly injured kept producing those magic moments that resulted in Argentina ‘s success at the World Cup against better organised teams like Italy and Brazil. You were magical Diego and will remain the greatest ever. RIP♥️

With weaker side and losing the opening match from Cameroon in a huge surprise, Argentina managed to battle its way to the final in a tough and infancy way, and barely losing in the last minutes unfairly. Excellent achievement despite the roughness against Maradona and the boring style they played.

Maradona was a legend and for me the best. To be a complete football player you have to have skill and character. And I hate to say it since I’m Argentinian and he’s my favorite player but thats something that Messi doesn’t have. He has the skill but then you need to have strong personality, i don’t know how to explain it’s like you have to have that goal in your mind that you want to win and your gonna win. Messi doesn’t have that so it’s been difficult for him to win a international trophy maradona had that and showed that at Napoli and World Cup.

True, skill wise you could argue either way, but with Diego he had something special on the inside. When the stakes were at their highest it brought out the best in him and he rose to the occasion

Also, Maradona was a much better defender. Very disruptive and hustled on literally every play. It was such a pleasure to watch Diego in my lifetime. The GOAT!!!!

@@vb2388 I mean, he wasn't lying, there was A LOT and i mean A LOT of discrimination between northern italians and southern italians, Diego lived that playing for Napoli (the Northern part of Italia criticized Maradona for choosing a ''small'' team instead of one of the north giants), Italia felt like 2 different countries back then from what i can see.

Maradona in 1990 WC faced different challenges compared to the 1986 WC. the fouls were more brutal. i bet CR7 and Messi will not stand facing the fouls then.

We can only hope that no other World Cup final will ever be as dispiritingly awful as this one.

His ankle was as swollen as a lemon during that WC... The doctors used to give him injections and stuff to help him play... it was a very hard WC..

The Argentine team in 1994 was much stronger wonder what would've happened if he wasn't suspended midway during the tournament.

They would have still lost to Romania in the QF. In 1990 a less talented squad played against Argentina in the group stage and the score was 1-1.

I think one of the best thing the monster or the.demigod did was exchanging the jersey of his Brazilian friend, Cereca. I think after a few years or after a decade it will be difficult for the next generation boys to believe that such a one as Maradona once played on this Earth.

The goal corner where he put his arm (again) is the same corner were the penalty of the final was in ...

Vc deve ter assistido a copa dentro da igreja maradoniana, só enxergava o Maradona na frente. A Argentina tinha um esquadrão naquele time, o Maradona fez sua fama encima daquela equipe.
