Not only was the bZ4X shown to have poor range, slow charging, and mediocre performance, it almost immediately had to have a stop sale because the wheels might come detached! What's Toyota's most efficient EV? The new bZ3 sedan. Why is it so much better than the bZ4X? Well the bZ3 uses the battery and drivetrain made by ... BYD. Toyota still has a lot of great tech, but the younger more agile Chinese companies are overtaking them in many ways.

    Guess which car is Denza D9's direct competitor in China? Zeekr 009 (BEV)? Toyota Alphard? GAC Trumpchi GL8? If your answer is another MPV, you are wrong. It's Li Auto's L9, a 3-row 6-seat plug-in hybrid SUV. Most Chinese people don't care whether it is a MPV or a SUV. They just want a car that is large enough to hold a whole family (6 or 7 seats), can drive smoothly (plug-in vehicles, including BEVs and PHEVs), and has luxurious interior (big screen, refrigerator, etc.)

  • @tren133

    @tren133

    Жыл бұрын

    It is actually Buick GL8 and GAC Trumpchi M8. And while there is some overlap between the MPV and the 3 row Li Auto, there is a significant customer base that only looks to the MPVs in the Chinese market. The Li L9 is predominantly sold as a luxury 3 row family car, but MPV's like the GL8, D9, 009, Alphard, M8, Dreamer, are more like 50/50 family/corporate. Very few L9's will be chauffeur driven, but many MPVs are. That's also why the top trim versions of the MPVs have those first class airliner seats, individual screens, and WEBCAMS, so the second row passenger can conduct business in those vehicles, versus the L9 which has a giant ceiling mounted rear screen which is for entertainment only.

  • @tren133

    @tren133

    Жыл бұрын

    BYD seems to have large plans for Denza actually, which is why they upped their stake to 90%. Denza is supposed to have a FULL spectrum of luxury vehicles, spelling out its name. So far we've only had D series MPVs and the just revealed N series crossovers, but they are suppose to have E, Z, and A models coming too. So a sedan, a sports car, and maybe full size SUV? BYD is jumping straight from making cheap cars to having Denza luxury, Yangwang high end luxury, and also an offroad "F-brand". Meanwhile they are also showing to the public their high end tech this year too, including the Yisifang 4 motor drivetrain, the Yunnian fully independent active 4 wheel suspension (which they dropped today), and presumably a brand new autonomous driving suite coming soon (since the Denza N7 was revealed with integrated lidar). I don't know how BYD is able to marshall enough engineering resources to work on all these things simultaneously, but they are going full speed ahead with it all.

If your friend told you that recently then I'm afraid he's/she's either not up to date with newer cars or still holds prejudice on the subject. Cherry QQ was from over 15 years ago which isn't comparable to Chinese cars now. It's like comparing a JP car from 1965 to one from 1980. If the car has local dealers where you are at then parts aren't an issue of course. Also from the looks of it you tend to value the fixability of cars by non-official means very much. I like this van allot. But that piano finish in the center console has to go. Not sure why auto companies got so stupid about that kind of surface. Scratches and looks bad in the first week of owning it. Just go with a textured non gloss we are good.

    Will you guys do a video covering all the many insane EV-fires (mostly from charging, but also for other reasons) that are happening all over China due to poor regulations, and are a serious hazard? I think that as a channel that tries to bridge the western audiences with the Chinese automotive industry, it is also your job to point out those things which it (the industry) does wrong, carelessly or outright bad; and that it must change if it really aspires to become dominant in the West.

    I doubt they will, mainly because they focus on the good things about Chinese cars. Maybe a channel like China Insights would cover it?
