*Fun fact:* In the novelization of Episode I, Anakin meets a wounded young Tusken in the desert. He then heals him and spend the night together until the Tusken's tribe finds them in the morning, forgiving Anakin's life as a payment for saving the member of the Tribe. Also, there is a Legends mini-comic in which a young Luke meets a vision of his father as a child, with the latter telling him that Tuskens are "misunderstood creatures"

This makes the context of him wiping out a tribe of Tusken's in Episode II much sadder and tragic than before, it's an action downright abhorrent which we can tell Anakin had huge guilt towards (even if the dialogue and acting wasn't necessarily good).

It's important to show both sides. Yes, the Sand People could be brutal, but they were also misunderstood and honorable with a tragic backstory. However, the same is in reverse: The Sand People were a misunderstood people of honor and tribulation who had a tragic backstory, but they use their backstory to justify cruelty and brutal displays. They practice slavery, ritualistic torture murder, and are extremely xenophobic. They are worthy of sympathy, but let's not look at it through rose-tinted glasses. They are an excellent mirror into some real-life cultures in that way...

You know, MotleyNerd, after watching the first episode of The Mandalorian Season 2, I can now see that the Sand People are not all that bad. They are misunderstood by those who don't know better. So, it really surprised me that Mando (Din Djarin) can communicate with them, with no problem or trouble. Let's hope both Disney and Star Wars can continue this trend of seeing the Star Wars Universe through another's perspective. Especially the Sand People.

The aggressors are only the tribes that do go out to fuck up innocent settlers just because they don't like them, not the entire race or species in general. For most part, i dare say that most of the Sand people just wanna be left alone to go about their business in their own turfs, going against outsiders only when they're actually crossed or their territories trespassed.

I do like how the feature films and the expanded universe depicted nuanced, non-black and white perspectives of the Sand People from various perspectives. If you put yourself in the shoes of a settler like Luke Skywalker, you’d understandably see Sand People as a bunch of primitive, murderous savages. If you put yourself in the shoes of a Mandalorian like Din Djarin, you’d understandably see them as sympathetic tribal warriors just trying to survive in the face of outsider incursions.

Hey, Geetsly. Could you make a video on Meetra Surik? I've just watched your videos about the Sith triumvirate and noticed that only Darth Traya's ideals and philosophy weren't refuted, unlike Darth Sion or Darth Nihilus. Which makes her an even more interesting character, but also a scary villain, since she presents a new, dark view on the Will of the Force and, when you see it, she actually wanted (at least in a more superficial view of her ideals) to bring free will to the galaxy. Which is why I think she's a scary villain.

The Tribe that took Boba Fett in explained that some Tribes have chosen to kill to protect themselves from settlers, but that also implies that not every Tribe is killers, some do things differently and are more reasonable. So, the Sand People are just like the CIS, they may be a massive group, but they don't all act and agree on the same things. Some are evil dicks the Tribes that killed Anakin's mom, the ones that attacked Luke, and the ones that attacked Ezra are definitely evil, just like those in the CIS with evil motives like the Cooperations or say the Trandosians who only joined to kill the innocent Wookies, but some are actually decent and good people, like the Tribes seen in The Mandalorian or the one that took Boba Fett in, just like the good CIS out there, like the Nosaurians.

The sand people narrative sounds like a sci Fi take on the Noble savage myth that was popularized in the early 20th century and is still used today. The hard fact is it dosent matter if the sand people have reasons for their behavior. Those reasons are often either cultural or based on events centuries in the past and the end result is often the death of people that had nothing to do with any of it. It's like saying a serial killer has reasons for killing women because their mother abused them. Modern humans live in a time so prosperous that we have forgotten charity, empathy, and sympathy are luxury items. They are things that can only exist when a society or person has a certain degree of prosperity. When you are living with the reality that sand people could attack, torture, and kill you and your loved ones at any time, sympathy for their reasons is not something that you can afford.

ANYWAY, I'VE BEEN WATCHING STAR WARS SLOWLY EXPLODE IN DEVELOPMENT OVER THE DECADES. I NEEDED SOME HOW FOR THEM TO BE JUSTIFIED, AND I DON'T KNOW WHY RIGHT NOW, BUT I DID, I DO.-THE SAND PEOPLE. I JUST FELT LIKE, THEY GOT A BAD RAP, SOMEHOW, WE DIDN'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THEM. WHAT'S MORE, RUMOUR'S HAD IT AMOUNG EARTH'S YOUNGLING POPULATION THAT THERE WAS A BACK STORY. BUT LUCAS PLAYED IT TIGHT TO THE CHEST; WISE. I REMEMBER, AGAIN, AS A KID AROUND THE TIME STAR WARS A NEW HOPE CAME OUT... I HAD A DREAM WHERE THE SAND PEOPLE, IMPERIAL STORMTROOPERS, AND THE REBELS; PARTICULARLLY THE X-WING FIGHTERS WERE INVOLVED IN A MURDER INVESTIGATION, WHERE A MAJOR CLUE THEREOF WAS A BLOODY HANDPRINT ON A TREE AT THE EDGE OF MY PARENTS PROPERTY...MY DREAM NEVER PANNED OUT. THE CASE WAS NEVER SOLVED, YET THE DREAM, WHICH REPRESENTED AN EXPANSION OF THIS WONDERFUL NEW UNIVERSE , TO EXPLORE, HEAR STORIES AND TO TAKE PART OF; THAT DID COME TRUE, AMAZINGLY. ANYWAY, I AGREE WITH YOU. I AM SURE YOU HAVE SUFFICIENT INFORMATION TO MAKE A VALID AND TRUTHFUL CLAIM, AS YOU DO. ALL THE SAME, WITH HONAR COMES WISDOM, I WOULD THINK. I MEAN, SOUNDSLIKE THEY HAVE SOME REDEEMING 'SPIRITUAL' QUALITIES. MAYBE THEY'LL REALIZE THEY AIN'T THE ONLY ONE'S ON THE ROCK, AND IF THEY STOP SHOOTING THEIR NEW NIEGHBORS THEN MAYBE THOSE NIEGHBORS MIGHT RESPCT THEM IN TURN. THEY ARE PRETTY VISCIOUS. LIKE DARTH VADAR, I KEEP LOSING SYMPATHY FOR HIM. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE HIM IN BATTLE AND WHEN HE BEING INTIMIDATING, HE'S GOT A BIT OF EMO, I THINK ALL GAMERS HAVE THE SAME. IN ROGUE ONE, AT THE END WHEN WE SEE THE BATTLE FROM THE OVER PERSPECTIVE, WHEN THE REBELS WERE TRYINGTO PASS THE DEATHSTAR PLANS (THEY DID) AND VADAR, SHOWS UP IN A CLOUD OF DARKNESS, THE RED SABER'S LIGHT CUTTING A BLOODY WOUND IN THE DARKNESS, ONLY TO REVEAL HIM STANDING THERE. HE SLAUGHTERS LIKE TWELVE TROOPS IN LESS TIME IT TOOK TO WRITE THIS PARTICULAR SENTENCE, PROBABLY WITH MORE RHYTHIM TOO.THAT WAS COOL, BUT KILLING YOUNGLINGS? So the battle that I always dreamed of to happen in tattoine actually happened? The Sand People Vs Jawas? I am rooting for the sand people, Jawas while I used to think they were just cute kids now I see they are little demons. I think the story of the Tusken Raiders is kinda basically portraying the Native Americans throughout history which thinking of them that way makes them even more cool then I thought prior. I actually really like the bantha’s too because they are basically a horse buffalo dog and like how the sand people basically choose to ride a dog rather then a motorcycle and use a stick over a gun (besides the cycled rifle) Also their aim is very good especially compared to imperial stormtroopers so yeah sand people = 😎

I wish the book of boba fett used the idea that it was the tusken's choice not to use speeders, but to me it felt like they made it out that it the tusken's were "too stupid to understand"

Well there believe that speeders disconnect you from the land would have been the hurdle they would have to get over. So it’s a cultural thing for them. And of course if they haven’t used speeders before they are going to have some hiccups when they train with them.

They're pretty much like Dune's fremen seen through the Star Wars lens. People are quick to judge the Sand People as merely monsters, but they forget that it was the colonizers who instigated conflict. They trespassed on the sovereign territory of the tribes, took land that was not theirs, and then blame the Sand People for defending what's theirs. I don't condone the extreme violence and cruelty that many of the tribes have perpetrated, but the source of the conflict cannot be denied. Tatooine is the sovereign territory of the Sand People and their myriad tribes, and the bloodshed won't stop until that claim is respected, and the colonizers leave. Although good luck with that, considering so many of them are trapped there by poverty. Which is its own kind of tragedy.

I was repeatedly brow beaten into watching this because I just don't understood the sandpeople/tusken lore despite me literally already knowing all this!!! Not your fault or your fans fault just venting. Considering Saud everyone in Rag's comment section saying these same lore facts are wrong, some how...

Yes, Sand People had another side -- the old Star Wars bestiary ("The Wildlife of Star Wars: A Field Guide") showed the special bond they had with their banthas, published over 10 years ago. I still can't help but see this as just yet another attempt by Disney to "diversify" and "subvert" old favorite lore, and I'm sick of their politics being shoved into my media.
