The narrow divide between genius and stupidity is success. That said, Boba is trying to form a core world in the outer rim. That is commendable, and frankly, the only reason is hadn't happened yet was the outer rim was the first to be razed in galactic conquests, and during times of relative peace, Hut rule destablised any attempts at unification. Boba has a solid chance at an empire, IF he can avoid assassination.

Rule by fear is much easier to establish than respect. But it’s also fragile. Any moment of weakness and those you rule will overthrow you. Rule through respect and those below you can forgive a few mistakes or moments of weakness, so long as they are not perceived as intentional or overly cruel.

Asking the others to remain neutral is likely the best offer he could have made them. From a psychological standpoint he's made a request that was below what they where likely expecting (I'd say they where all expecting the good old "The enemy of my enemy is my friend" speech) so they think they're just been handed a bargin and he's likely planted the idea that no matter who wins they will be weakened and they'll be in a perfect position to haggle more favourable terms once the dust settles (they certainly won't want a fight, especialy if the winner actual absorbs forces from the loser but after any war there is often a scramble to consolidate forces and secure territory so that would likely let them negotiate from a better position in the uncertainly)

The metaspeak is also important, the way he said it presented he trusted them as much as they trust him, which is little, and by staying out of the way they are not making enemies of Boba fett if he wins. This is important because your typical crime boss will force everyone to take sides and face the consequences. Usually leads to instant conflict and back stabbery because as soon as the strongman weakens their lackeys, who are often coerced into service easily turns on them.

People kept saying this isn't the Boba Fett they know because how soft and caring he became. This is what I call a journey of becoming someone who's stepping out from Jango Fett shadow of bounty hunting. Becoming his own person. Becoming this universe version of "Godfather" is the first step. His time with the Tusken made him stronger both physically and menially. His philosophy of a tribe. Like he said to Fennec Shand "You can only get so far without a Tribe". That's one of the reasons I loved Boba Fett.

I’m not sure if Boba is leaving Jango’s legacy. Sure Jango was a gun for hire, but compared to other bounty hunters, he seems kind of soft. He won’t kill partners to become richer and he had a code of honor that according to Hondo would have made Jango disappointed with Boba when he tried to assassinate Windu. While Mandalorians are violent as hell, I have to give Jaster Mereel and Jango some credit with how they tried to reform Mandalore’s warrior culture.

Yeah it's ridiculous to think that such a formidable fighter with decades of notable events behind him would feel the need to beat his status into every individual head he encounters. Of course he has the reputation to convert neutral but potentially rival players into allies, if he makes it his priority. And of course hunters and outlaws of lesser reputation or combat specialization would generally welcome the chance to join into a respectful partnership with someone of Fett's stature. It is some of the best worldbuilding and character development of any Star Wars story in my lifetime.

Boba, like his dad, has always been the shoot first, ask questions later or never type. It ain't until his days with the Sand people that he learned what it's actually like to have a family. He knew how to lead a squad at best, & even that, he's doing it like just a boss. This time around, he wants to actually rule like he's the head of a family instead of that of an army, & if you wanna do something like that, you CAN'T just kick down doors & shoot people just because they don't like you or you don't like them. Furthermore, it's also clear that he never once saw himself being at such a position before in life, & that means for someone like him who's always just doing his job shooting people, has trouble grasping the line of when to shoot people & when to talk.

Been saying this for a while now! Boba's approach is opening up doors for him that a typical crimelord would never have. Constantly contending with rivals and the risk of betrayal is a business cost -- by offering loyalty, and encouraging it in return, he reduces this cost and sets himself up for future gains. Moreover, his approach ensures he will eventually know where he stands with the other power players on Tattooine -- those unwilling to work with him once he's successful through respect will eventually be enemies no matter what, so he'll have them isolated and clearly in his crosshairs.

When I watched BoBF for the first time, I always had that inkling that was somewhere on the line of "Don't mistake my kindness for weakness" sort of feeling from Boba. Of course, I still think he talks too much, but the way he's intending to rule is VERY similar to what former Mobsters say their hierarchy worked. For example, if the Mob needed to whack someone, they didn't hire a hitman to do it for them, they simply ask one of their own and they'd do it out of respect. No rewards, besides earning their own kind of respect for a job well done....IF it was done well. That respect alone would allow them certain privileges that can't be bought or safely taken, only earned and given.

Sure the Mandalorian Jedi with the Darksaber kept the Mandalorians in check after their crusades, but with the exception of the True Mandalorians, the Mandalorian Protectors, and the Mandalorian rebels from both of the civil wars in the Clone Wars and Rebels, I feel that Mandalorians on the most part don’t care about honor and just want to focus on conquest and the kill. No offense to Sabine since her clan is a part of them, but most of House Viszla with the exception of the Mandalorian Jedi, Clan Wren, and the Nite Owls are just vicious. Guys like Bo-Katan, Din Djarin, Sabine, Boba, and Jango seem to be in a minority for Mandalorian society.

Boba will always retain the skills of a bad ass bounty hunter, but he's gotten wiser, & smarter. He's no push over, he'll take care of business when he has to. Shooting at everything that moves is easy, but making friends from enemies is harder. Eliminating the biker gang shows that he can be ruthless. Favreau, & Filoni are amazing writers. You are absolutely right. Everything Boba has been doing since he escaped the sarlaac has made perfect sense to me. It's a shame that so many see a "weak" Boba "watered down by Disney" instead of the older, wiser Boba that I see. He wants to build trust and have people be loyal to him, rather than fear him, which will lead to resentment, others challenging his rule, conflict and death. If Boba's way of running the crime family helps them put money in their pockets, they're less likely to oppose him, or try to to take him out.

I would add that Boba more or less lived in jango fett's shadow. so much expactation of him being ruthless necessary, simply by wearing the fett name. now that the empire is gone, Jabba is gone, and all those who could keep a sort of hold on him for that general expectation towards him, he is for the first time able to choose his own path. for any man that would be a big deal. especially someone with boba's background. he has no superiors now. he can choose things. and that must be the most refreshing and satisfying thing for him.

If cultivation manhua/webnovels have protagonists who acted more like Boba Fett, they will have less enemies and may even gain respects who might oppose them even. But no, those authors are all about "the protagonists are being super OP and making them always looked arrogant and can bash, kill, plunder and have many women as many as they wanted because they wanted to" or something like that. So Boba Fett has my respect for what he is doing and so does the team that make this series possible.

I agree with your premise... I just disagree with how they chose to depict it on screen. Boba has done nothing to earn the respect of those under him, it's been done in dialogue and convenient plot armour. The Rancor could have been neat, but the showing up of the twins followed straight after by then giving a gift of a Rancor and leaving... was C grade storytelling. The last episode about the Dark Sabers path to Boba was real storytelling. The Tuskens teaching him how to be one with a weapon and his people was storytelling. His path as a crime boss has been rushed and a mess.

100% agree with this video. Finally someone said it! Ruling through fear and punishment gets you nowhere and it's a sure way to run business into the ground. As a real life parallel I've used a lot of similar ideology to build my business. I own a powerlifting gym and I've always empathized with community. Being welcoming instead of intimidating, always personally greeting people rather than running business from home, and always giving back so we all benefit as a gym, not just myself. By creating a community where everything is a win win then everyone helps take care of the gym. In fact we don't have staff and everyone pitches in to make sure the gym stays special. We always treat people with respect and don't shame or punish people. Always giving the benefit of the doubt but also putting down order when it comes to it. In may cases governments like the Galactic empire benefit greatly from the violence around them and ultimately need to create it, he violence justify their own abuses and over reaches. For the hive of scum and villainy the Empire was the best thing for them as their action benefited the government in justification for their own actions that they were effectively allowed to run amuck. But for governments like the New Republic this kind of violence and lawlessness undermines their authority. The Republic has an interests in making things, or at least making it look like, are rather peaceful and safe. Action like what Boba use to do and what Djarin was up to can attract their attention, then theirs the risk that what you did was significant enough to warrant actual action. The hutts' have the advantage of having a safe haven like Hutt space to run back to if anything goes really wrong, exactly like the twins did, but Boba dose not have that advantage. He runs he loose everything he worked for, if he even can run at all like Djarin learned.

Machiavelli said it is better for a ruler to only be feared than only be loved (if the choice is one or the other), but he also still said that the best outcome is for a ruler is to be simultaneously feared and loved. Boba Fett seems to be trying to do both. It's a more difficult path (something Machiavelli also pointed out and why he advocated for the fear only approach in "The Prince"), but if successful it can be worth it.

A perfect example of this is when he grabbed his Gaffi stick instead his gear. With the gear he could easily have killed Black K. He wanted to grab his gear and shoot him, but he choose not to kill him because of exactly this.

I think the criticism of his strategy of ruling by respect just comes out of how much of a disappointment he is when it comes to fighting and generally not defending his interests properly if Fennec isn't around to move things forward.
