The BET awards always awarded those who sold the most records or who were already popular and wealthy. It made no sense.

these award shows are losing ratings because they don't put the show on youtube, where the whole world can easily access it instead of paying for a subscription just to watch it. Also the time of music and being a true artist has changed, no one wants to take their time to give a great performance they come up with half ass wardrobe and choreography its just dry now

Honestly ain’t nobody watching this trash I remember as kid watching this it was a beautiful thing to see. Hell my ppls n everyone n the hood was watching it. By next week we all talking bout it n on top of that great performances n everyone. To tell yall the truth I stopped watching this after 2009 from their music n everything went downhill. Bet awards now fill up with social media 1 hit wonder rappers. To many classless ppl at the show. They don’t even award REAL artists just ppl to push a negative image winning awards over ppl that actually put n the work for years. Right now they award popularity n clout vs talent.

EBT? I agree with all the reasons provided. I would add that it’s also generational. The gen x “primary” audience for the BET awards is really not as familiar with the new generation, the new gen does not embrace the awards show space as past gens. Ultimately the culture is just different which is expected. The definition of professional, decorum, and couth have changed. Everything must change!

It's the disconnect. Each generation can connect someway to the previous. This one however is COMPLETELY disconnected and can't enjoy or understand anything that is not happening in present time.

EBT awards. I'm done. It fell off since when it was sold. I didn't know this year didn't have a host. Yeah they fell off I didn't even realize that when u see the females rappers wearing Skippy outfits in front of Bobby Jones. Bobby Jones gospel. Bobby Jones. He face said it all. Like in horror where is stage left. Right please . Only way it can go back to its form is they have to let ppl handle it and formatted that can bring in the new but respect the old and honor the past .

In terms of talent there’s alot of young black talent in Gen z today but the problem with BET awards they only relay on the mainstream artists who are straight industry plants or have potential to be much more talented than presented but the death of artist development is stopping their growth they don’t bring in any new school underrated black artists I remember when they used to have segments in between commercials they would give the main stages to new, unknown and upcoming artists and release the full performances on their KZread channel I remember a-lot of upcoming artists like Ella Mai, Kendrick Lamar, sza, Chloe x hallie and Khalid benefitted from this but I think after 2018 they stopped doing that, they also refuse to get with the time, not expanding their musical choices in both live performances and award categories that go beyond mainstream hip hop, gospel and R&B, not attention to black artists that are underground hip hop, pop, rock, alternative, afro-beat, Latin pop, jazz, EDM, etc

It absolutely fell off. They cant call themselves an awards show when they only give out like 5 awards during the whole 3 hour variety show. They need Dr. Dre to handle the talent like he did the superbowl halftime show. I'm sure the superbowl has more people watching every year compared to the BET variety show.

BET awards decline always is credited due to lack of old star power and new star power. The new artists that perform are just hot in the moment vs being the next age of superstars to follow for years

Correction. Chris Brown performed the following year of MJ’s death in 2010. He wasn’t allowed to perform in 2009 due to the Rihanna situation.

Back when RayRay made that Lauren Hill joke. Their career fell off after that and sad part is that wasn't his joke the writers wrote that for him to read. He should of known better though.

Facts because when I was kid BET was must see TV but today I don’t even watch BET awards or shows and I wonder when you said outside black race and genre of music it that include Afro beats ?

There were so many other ways to expand audiences. Africa, S America, The Caribbean, Black Europen, Black Asia smh

The last time I watched was 2016 when Beyoncé performed Freedom with Kendrick Lamar. She got a lot of slack for not performing there anymore. Whenever they wanted her, she skyped in her performances. In 2016, she opened the show and left right after. She had to fly back across seas to do concert for her Formation tour. She didn't have to but she did. This EBT show is a mess. Bobby Jones face confirmed it when he saw some street walker rapper gyrating to her song with a stack of money. I bet you Bobby Jones not coming back. Hopefully the rumors about Tyler Perry buying EBT are true. Im sure she can turn it back into BET.
