They probably did that because they already had devoted fan bases before signing and co signs from established rappers like Nicki and jadakiss. Also the both of them had already been associated with Wayne before the other rappers of their time were signed to them. Nicki had known wayne for two years before signing to him and had already him on all three of her mixtapes more then once. Also they kept gaining attention and it didn’t die down shortly after 2009

Basically, Drake and Nicki Minaj had that megastar power and they became the face of Young Money. Drake had released a lot of albums and soon left the label to start his own label, OVO Sound. They really have die hard fans who enjoy their music. Lil’ Wayne was the most popular rapper in the game at that time.

I feel like it’s easy to blame it on lack of promotion instead of your music just not being accepted by the masses. Drake and Nicki had the same amount of promotion but they just have that something special that made them widely popular.

If I’m Shanell, and I signed to two major artist prior to YMCM Records, there’s no way I’m signing to a third artist. I would learn all I needed to know from the first experience, def would’ve stayed solo and independent. I’ve never heard anyone signed to these recording labels saying there were happy, and satisfied plus they last years on the label. It’s always short-lived.

Being independent is also extremely hard especially back then when most people that were successful were still from non-independent record labels. Nicki and Drake both did benefit from record labels. Nicki even did the unprecedented and avoided a 360 deal. Shanell needed to at LEAST get on the RIGHT label with the RIGHT deal. She was a pop star on a rap label with crazy vocals and moves, but that label didn't even bother to at least put her on some hooks for songs to take advantage. Shame.

Every label has its time death row, no-limit, badboy, murder inc, g-unit, young money after awhile their popularity burns out

For me, Young Money was Lil' Wayne, Nicky Minaj, Drake & Tyga. The rest were the like extras in a movie. When asking myself what did YM the most damage, the only answer I can think of is greed. Notably Birdmans.

Shanell, Tyga & Chuckee were always underrated to me. Also i wanna know what does slim think of all this since he is the co founder of cash money.

Outside the aspect of poor management and finacial mismanagement, a lot of grooming and facilitating minors with drugs took place in that label.

In 2012-2013 i accidentally found a site talking in great detail how Drake had to take Cash Money to court privately to get paid. and it was settled in his favor. this never hit news back then funnily enough...

The reason behind Curren$y’s (Spitta) departure has actually come out. His contract was terminated due to the fact that the label wouldn’t have been able to recoup. Spitta lost a lot of his belongings in Katrina and Wayne knew that his artist getting his life together would probably be the better move so he dropped him. Some of those details could be slightly off, but overall it was because of Katrina and that’s why Spitta has never spoken ill of Wayne.

I’m still bitter about Shanell. I use to follow her on MySpace before she even signed with YM. She was so good and I was super excited when she signed but they did nothing to build her career.

When I heard the masters being sold for 100 million I was so shocked cause it was between 3 of the biggest artist in the world.

I remember Bow Wow joined Cash Money too back in 09-10' and he was supposed to drop an album called "Underrated" back in 2012 but they kept pushing back his release dates and eventually he got shelved and never released the album and he also tweeted that they wasn't really promoting him as much as Wayne, Drake, Nicki & Tyga...

The truth is, those acts outside of Drake, and Nicki, couldn’t produce a hit on their own without a feature from the big 3. The big 3(Drake, Nicki, Wayne) created their own lane/wave, while the rest were riding a wave sounding like every generic trend in that era. Tyga was never looked at like a YM artist, he was his own brand.. he just didn’t fit in. Drake, and Nicki, were superstars- so they get priority regardless of what’s going on.. I’m sure everyone else was mad, and probably started acting out- even to the point they felt the label were to blame for them not being stars.. the truth? Who’s made a legacy, and who isn’t relevant?

When I was 17 and 18...nothing was playing in my car other than Young Money. I LOVED that Ms. Parker song...I also played that Chris Brown song "follow me like Twitter" and the "shoes" song. Anyone else remember those classics?! The In My Zone mixtape from Chris was a masterpiece to me. Lmao I miss those days so much.
