It’s hard to be in a movie with Tom Hanks and still be the absolute star of the show. Marisol was cast perfectly, could not have found a better combination of funny and kind and chaotic if the director tried.

The greatest reminder of how love can soften the hardest of hearts and open the eyes closed by grief and despair to see the magical colours that true care and friendship can bring to our world. A priceless message of what a difference feelings shared with one another can bring when we open ourselves up to them. All the riches and wealth in the World could never compete with our love for each other.

Agreed, this movie is a slow burn that gets you at the end. I don't get emotional on movies, but this movie took a real situation in life and put it on the big screen. When a movie is done right, you don't need special effects or over the top things to bring one to tears in a good way. Thank you for bringing this movie into our lives.

You should watch the original Swedish film or read the book. This version was alright, but it leaves out most of Otto's (Ove in the Swedish version) back story. This is incredibly important to the story as it explains what Otto/Ove went through in his life to become such a grouch like he was at times.

I'm 31 years old, and the scene of Marisol entering the bedroom to find Otto passed away had me very close to crying. From the humor, the realism, the heartwarming scenes, the emotion, the funny, yet grumpy and very intelligent character of Otto, "A Man Called Otto" is easily one of the very best movies I've seen in a long time.

Reminded me of my late grandma. My granpa died in 2009 and my grandma told that she felt lonely without him. When she got ill and was near death back in 2016, I looked at her and wished that she reunited with my grandpa in the end. I regretted that I did not spend as much time with her as possible when her condition deteriorated, but I pray that she isn't lonely anymore.

Her name Marisol (Mar y Sol). In English it translates to Sea and Sun. The name is a abbreviation of “Maria de la Soledad” (Maria of loneliness) in honor of the Solitude and loneliness. Otto expressed his pain of loneliness by trying to end his life multiple times after loosing Sonya; his love of life. His Solitude was glorified by Marisol, Tommy, the cat, Malcolm and all his neighbors who loved Otto. He was never alone. He was drifting lost like in the sea. All the neighbors were the sun over his sea. He Medically and Legitimately had a big. ❤️ He was a good man. I Love this Movie so much. My Top 5 now.

This movie reminds me of the story of Dan Peterson and Norah Wood (from CBS Evening News' On the Road series). An old man, whose wife had passed and was depressed, had a chance meeting with a little girl who changes his life. Normally one would assume their friendship would quickly fade but they met at least once a week until he passed in 2020 at 86. Both the initial story and the final tribute are available on youtube.

He didn't have children, Marisol became his daughter, and they loved one another, as family does.

One thing I loved in this scene was how he at first didn't like anyone else to having pictures of the kids on his nightstand next to the letter.

Watching this part has me scared of losing my grandparents, I call them ma and pops even tho they're my grandparents but they're literally my world as much as my parents, and this scene scares me cause my grandparents are already hella old and I feel like I won't be ready when their time comes 🥺

The movie had a bit of everything, funny scenes, eerie parts, amazing characters, an awesome character development for Otto's part and a bittersweet/sad ending. Imo one of the best Tom Hanks movies ever made.

This was my grandma … we loved her so much But I barely realize how the entire neighborhood loved her I knew some cause half of the school friends I had grew up in the same house My grandma took care of a lot of kids when I was a kid so most of the kids in my class and school were close friends But she died in 2017 and it was so sad The entire town went .. even people from other parts of other towns She died a day before a special day so the wake wasn’t supposedly be done But the mayor of the town made it possible It was so wholesome knowing all of this people I never knew admired her

I like how in the letter, Otto originally wrote that the cat likes to shit in private, but then hand crossed it out and wrote "do his business" above it
