This movie thought me frm young what a TRUE man/ warrior is about! Shout out to ALL my Gladiators striving evryday✊🏾.
3:51 I love how everyone in the stadium stands unanimously as they carry Maximus away. *I'm not crying I just have some onion in my eye*
Marcus Aurelius--greatest Roman emperor,an amazing philosopher and a wise man.His book Meditations is one of my favorite books of all time,I can read it over and over and think about the world in a different way each time.A man who didnt run away from his duties but embraced them like a man a never complained that he had too much work.. "When you arise in the morning, think of what precious privilege is to be alive,to breath,to think,to joy,to love..." "When a man can live,he can also live well.. "Dont act like you were about to live for 10 000 years, death hangs about you,be a decent man."

This film will always be regarded in my mind as a timeless masterpiece.
Just imagine, it really ends like that. You walk through a gate and go "home" and maybe there are already deceased family members or friends waiting there.

That would be a nice way to depart from this earth-realm to that kind of Place. Live the life to the fullest - and depart with no regrets.
Should the aliens ever come to Earth and ask to understand humanity, show them this movie.

@The Great Bamboozler you mean war implements?? If actual money, it will in all probability, prove quite worthless...we are programmed to value it, no?
"Is Rome worth one good man's life, we believe it once, make us believe it again "one of my favourite quote from my favourite movie ever...
Every time she says "he was a soldier of Rome " the way she speaks it gives me goose bumps...best movie ever made
Its amazing how Maximus brought the people of Rome together Even in the Final scene you see Military Slaves, Royalty, and Politicians, common men all on the Coloseum Ground around his body, all on one level.
who didn't cry at this scene, ain't a man
Very emotional scene and then all of the sudden you hear a dumb music and you remember you live in a fucked up world and advertismemts are what's up

The sound track during her speech still gets me every time I watch it ❤😭
"Go to them"...in this line i always broke...
I tear up when Maximus dies, it is that powerful to me. That Lucilla said "He was a soldier of Rome. Honor him" makes the scene so important to make the ending complete. One of the great endings in film.
A movie, a class of its own. The music and the ending that makes so many cried, including me.
My name is Maximus Decimus Meridius, Commander of the Armies of the North, General of the Felix Legions, loyal servant to the true emperor, Marcus Aurelius. Father to a murdered son, husband to a murdered wife. And I will have my vengeance, in this life or the next.
this is always gunna be the most saddest ending to any movie for me, it never gets old, its so beautifully thought out, yes i am a 33 year old male and yes i cried like a little baby when i saw this the first time n i will continue to keep crying each time i watch it, the goose bumps i get when he first falls to the floor along with lisa gerrards voice it just sends me to that place i can't explain it, i just really hope that is what happens when you die, living in peace being with your loved ones for enternity, great movie.
People say this is a fighting film with action, but it's more than this...
A man dying after being betrayed and taking his revenge and STILL saying " THERE WAS A DREAM THAT WAS ROME .... SHALL BE REALISED" only a true man who has real respect to his dreams and duty would utter those words
I do not get tired of watching this movie a hundred times
This and the end of "End of Days" always breaks me when he smiles when he sees his dead family while he is dying.
This movie makes you believe that you will be see your loved ones again, even if you are atheist it doesn't matter, just for a moment you wanted to believe deeply... Father, if you hear me somehow i want you to know I miss you so much... People, don't forget to save some time for your loved ones, when i am graduated from collage my father was at hospital because of cancer. It was the most emotionless day of my life.
First film that ever made me cry as a kid. This scene. Even as an 8 year old.
Manliest scene ever in history of filming
The actress brought it home with that line... Chills
24 years ago from now. Still crying.
I wish I could have seen him leading his army back to Rome like the original plan. Would have loved to see the soldiers' reactions to him being alive.
Best movie .. I cry in the end

Melikeomaccc I agree. We r free is a wonderful song and in this movie emotional. This singer and Keith from Celtic thunder singing this song I love. Then her speech the tears start coming hard along with all the men offering to carry him. I wanted to always name my son after Maximus but husband got his way and a jr. Darn it.
