The DARK Reason Why Slick Rick Shot His Cousin 4 Times
Slick Rick is one of the most iconic rappers in the history of hip-hop. Slick Rick who was born Ricky Walters, rose to fame in the 1980s with his distinctive storytelling style and his signature eyepatch. Songs like "La-Di-Da-Di"; "Children's Story" and "Hey Young World" became legendary tracks, sampled by everyone in the industry thousands of times and fully solidified Rick's name in the Hip-Hop world. However, despite his success, Slick Rick's career was derailed by legal troubles. In 1990, he was arrested for his involvement in a shooting incident that left his cousin and an innocent bystander injured. He was later sentenced to five years in prison for the crime, a sentence that many in the hip-hop community felt was excessive.
Despite his incarceration, Slick Rick continued to release music from behind bars. His third album, "The Ruler's Back," was released in 1991 and featured some of his most beloved songs, including "Children's Story" and "Hey Young World." The album's success helped solidify Slick Rick's place in the pantheon of hip-hop legends.

"Street Talkin'" is a great tune.
The shooting incident with his cousin and the subsequent getaway with his pregnant girlfriend has some eerily similar details to the lyrics in Rick's classic "Children's Story". And that song was made at least a year or two prior to the incident.

Well done. Very informative. I was 18 when The Great Adventures of Slick Rick dropped. Of all the old school hip hop albums I still listen to that one gets the most play by far. His style has aged a lot better than some others.

Not just aged better. We get maybe 2-3 random slick rick verses every 10 years and he sounds completely fresh every time, rapping with dudes 10-15 years his junior.

Yep ~ done forget and stay safe. Mine has been bogus since I was a child. They used to do trifling stuff but won't never apologize. Told everyone I was doing drugs after witnessing the murder of my mother and escaping gunshots from my stepfather 😢. The government should have known that trauma and messed up behaviors would be passed down through generation. One of the few times when law enforcement and immigration realized, that the guy was being targeted it was little to nothing he can do. " Especially back then when the streets were extremely hot" but as soon laid eyes on him shooting. The ironic and funny thing is it's not even shoot him to kill him it seemed to let him know I'm serious. Everybody around then knew what the situation was.... This is why he had such A unique Cadence born in England then moving to the Bronx he had An America accent blended in with the newyork accent and Cadence so his style of flow and Cadence could never be duplicated totally original one of the GREATEST MCs OF ALL TIME
