Carl was the genius of the group from what I can tell and the music he followed up with, he had the golden touch and should have been a household name. Shame the other two couldnt have settled their differences as they had one of the best R&B bands in the world which was up there with the best American artists. The music industry really didnt have a clue about what they had and didnt give this group the praise they deserved.

Well they are superb but I think Soul 2 Soul, Level 42, Five Star, Shakatak, Incognito, Total Contrast, Average White Band, Imagination, Lynx, Cool Notes, Freeez, 52nd Street are in the same league for funk/Jazzy and R&B genres. Probably forgetting a lot of bands but thats off the top of my head. Basically all these bands are criminally underrated and never got the respect they deserved and way better than the music out there now.

They are one of only a few groups that never, never, ever produced a bad song. All of their songs on every album are very pleasing to ecstatically full-on jamming. This is one great group. As a self-proclaimed almanac of soul music, let me state for the record that there were two groups that consistently brought it during the decade of the eighties: Loose Ends and Atlantic Starr. If those two groups could miraculously put aside their collective differences, reunite, and tour together, that would be magical. In my opinion, those two groups carried the spirit of true soul music. For an entire decade.

I grew up and went to the same school as Karl at South Hackney school. He was a awesome bass guitar player. I also visited his home frequently. His mother had a positive attitude and never let Karl waste time being idle. She made him aware of the value of time. I attended one of the studios on a frequent basis and watched Karl practice in a band before he even became involved with loose ends. They use have serious arguments with each other during practice. If one band member was out of time with their instruments or not up to standard, arguments would develop. There is on bas ass tune that was never released that I recorded while they were practicing in the studio before Loose ends arrived. The track was called easy street and it was a funk jazz fusion track. This track was awesome. Karl is so talented but believe me it was not all talent he had to put in some serious work and dedicate himself for years.

I love Loose Ends! Ever since I first heard ‘Choose Me’ back in the 80’s they have always been one of my favorite R&B groups (next to the Isley Brothers). Like the Isley Brothers I NEVER had to hit the forward button on my cassette tape. I always played the tape all the way through front and back. I don’t think they were ever really underrated because here in NYC, KISS and WBLS were always playing their music and I would always run right out and buy their new album. Thanks Loose Ends for all of the hard work you put into your music. I have never forgotten your impact on R&B in the 80’s when I was a young teenager. Loose Ends were dope in the mid 80's. if you think about it, it was a short period of time 82-88 then Jane and Steve left. they did one more album that was good but those early albums soar above. I knew they were done when i heard the look how long album and heard that track that tried to go "new jack" i don't need to love was the title. It sounded like Groove Me-Guy. I was like nooo don't sound like everyone else. They are legends, but together not apart.
