More About Dark Crystal: The Dark Crystal is a 1982 American-British high fantasy adventure film directed by Jim Henson and Frank Oz and stars the voices of Stephen Garlick, Lisa Maxwell, Billie Whitelaw, Percy Edwards, and Barry Dennen. The plot revolves around Jen, an elf-like 'Gelfling' on a quest to restore balance to his alien world by returning a lost shard to a powerful but broken gem.
Although marketed as a family film, it was notably darker than the creators' previous material, and incorporated several nods to the new age movement.

My best Dark Crystal memory was watching it for the first time on tv in my aunts cabin in the northern Arizona woods in 1997. The cabin was solar powered, so the picture faded as the sun set.

I was enthralled by this movie when I was but a child in the 80's. My grandparents had two VCRs and recorded everything they rented. So I had multiple viewings. It scarred me for life in a great way. I will forever adore it. I cannot wait for the new series. HURRY UP NETFLIX AND CO.

Just finished watching the series, and it was amazing. I remember when I and my sister first saw the movie. We were in elementary school and my older cousins put it on the T.V. My sister was scared of it at first but I INSTANTLY fell in love. This was about 7-8 years ago, and even though it was made for an entirely different generation of kids my sister and I were still able to make it one of our favorite childhood memories. Watching the series put the movie in a whole new light and it was most certainly one of the most advanced movies in its time.

I remember seeing the documentary on how it as made back around 88 or 89. I remember the scene where they came up with the land striders. One of the puppeteer walked in on stilts one day, and it gave jim henson an idea for a tall long legged puppet. It was very interesting how they learned to walk on all four while on stilts. sure they had safety harness' on but for the most part they were walking around on their own. The harness only caught them if they fell.

I was there as a child too! The Power Of The Dark Crystal script given to Archaia comics is nostalgia for me in that if feels like TDC! It begins 1000 years after the movie! It's about a world within Thra that is dying and only the shard from the Crystal can save it! An innocent girl named Thurma is sent by her people to retrieve it but is emotionally conflicted about the hell she would release and is also met with resistance! Jen and Kira are still living. That's all I'm saying..

The movie is constantly being re-released on video. It's had a VHS release, multiple DVD releases including a special edition, and a BR release. There's actually two versions of the film, one being the original UK version and the other the US release. The US release is a conversion which runs a slight bit faster than the UK version and thus has a shorter run time. The US version is also brightened up a bit but it causes the colors to appear a little washed out. The ending titles of the two versions are the only noticeable difference, with one showing a blurry image of the Crystal of Light and the other showing a sketch of Aughra.

They don't show movies anymore :( At that time I also read the novel adaptation which, if not the first book I ever read was among them! I had a version of the Marvel adaptation too! Currently I'm reading The Power Of The Dark Crystal and loving it! They could still make the story into a film if they wanted (I don't think many will read it)! Beneath The Dark Crystal begins soon as well! Oh, then there's the upcoming Netflix series! xD

My one issue with this movie is that it had poorly written dialogue.

The teeth...all I can remember from this video is that woman's constantly-bared teeth...

And just like Star Wars, Doctor Who, Star Trek, etc the people at Netflix didn't get the Dark Crystal series right! They tried to put modern politics into it just like all of the rest and ended up ruining Henson's vision!

Sorry but I came here to watch and learn stuff about TDC.. so we don’t need you taking up 75% of the screen for heavens sake. You should be presenting from the small box with the dark crystal visuals taking up the majority of the screen. So annoying and egocentric.

Am I watching the wrong video? I read the comments and they are not syncing with this video. Maybe just of poorly raised/ poorly educated woman hating trolls who need to leave their mothers basements.

Adam Shubsda I've written about Jim Henson several times and they brought some interesting information up that I didn't know. How did you already know all of this.

Speak only for yourself, Adam. There are plenty of people, myself included, who didn't know some of these things prior to watching the video.
