@@smgyro1476 Offense is exactly my problem with Lillard. Like you said, his defense was attrocious since the day 1 and it would be fine if he actually made up for it by being a complete versatile offensive player but reality that despite all the hype and media narratives he is not particularly good offensive player or point guard. All he is good is shooting and solid ability to drive and finish around the basket. People were hyping him as the best point guard when in reality he can't even run offense properly. Another problem that despite all his strengths and weaknesses he is somehow pretty bad off ball and has been way too ball dominant his whole career which makes no sense for a player with his profile. He should be a floor spacer and off ball threat leaving duties of running offense to a point guard that is actually capable of that. 100% you hit the nail on the head when pointing Giannis being a better point guard than Lillard at pretty much everything but shooting.

It’s fascinating to me how well the NBA marketing machine works. I like Lilard. I never really watched his teams games before or after he joined the Bucks but I had a very favourable view of him as a player. I actually enjoyed when I would see him in highlights of games or top 10 countdowns (all part of the marketing machine). It would make me feel good to see him play just from watching him in the odd game and more frequently in those highlights and clips. So much so that I got defensive on his behalf when you started trashing him. But 30 seconds in and I am saying to myself “damn! He’s not wrong! OMG I have been totally manipulated into this positive view of this player!” And it’s the same story video after video after video you put out. It’s fascinating and horrifying at the same time.

@@kingquestOZ Lillard is still a great iso scorer. But that is a very specific skill and that is why players like that struggle to fit into systems. And keep in mind I’m only using this video and Lillard himself as an example of this phenomenon. I have noticed in with the majority of “superstars” of the league. They are all great iso scorers but struggle when it comes to playing team ball: running plays properly, defending properly, consistency etc. And this is unsurprising given the leagues evolution towards scoring and away from defence over the last 10 years. I mean you can take it right back to Jordan’s revitalisation of the league popularity. He is the goat because he got his skills in every aspect of the game up to elite level but all the league wanted to promote was his scoring. Most fans from later eras I see doing reactions are like a broken record “oh man, I never knew he had that defence!” It’s like queue the Russel Westbrook “Whaaaaat? Man you trippin’” clip! MJ was all defence first team like 8 (10?) seasons! He got sick of people saying he had bad defence and deliberately set out to and DID win Defensive Player of the Year! In the same year! NBA has been on a crash course to flashy scorers who can’t really play the whole game for decades and now we are hear. And it’s trash.

2:35 I can just imagine an elite point gaurd like Luka or Haliburton in this spot staring right at brook lopez, jumping, and, while still staring at lopez, making a perfect skip pass to the corner

I’m not going to even lie , amateur ballers would make that pass . Literally what I was saying . Why don’t you just look at Lopez and throw a half no look pass in the corner . Or go over the top to your 7ft center to go and get it over a small guard .

I expected him to be a huge downgrade defensively from Jrue, but I did not expect the kind of offensive sloppiness I've seen since he joined Giannis. Just bad bad decision making and it's not a one-off it's a real pattern. It makes me wonder if that's one of the reasons they let go of Griffin, maybe he was telling the truth to the bucks players and they didn't want to hear it. He seems like a great guy but clearly thinks very highly of his abilities

Politics. Griffin was a newbie coach, had no leverage. The Bucks also sabotaged him by bringing in Stotts, who probably should have been given the HC job in the first place. Just a disaster by the Bucks. Budenholzer is likely laughing about all this knowing he could get this same team to the ECF whereas they lose in the 1st round with Doc.

It took 1 year for Gobert to be back at his level after his trade, after spending 10 years in Utah. Now he is getting praises. (and his role is not the point guard of a team that changed coaches during the year). It makes sense that it will take 1 year for Lillard to adjust his game after 10+ years in Portland where he had all the key to offense. He will adapt and make a good year next season for sure.
