Mao was parroting western communism, and western communism was talking about Christianity and the Abrahamic religions. Spiritual traditions of the East are a different thing.

Its time for humanity to put aside childish superstitions and start developing humanity in a scientific and inclusive manner.

I think that scientific and inclusive development should be accompanied with a spiritual growth or development also. If not we will become a post human society, cold and materialistic. I agree with marxism on the dark power of religious systems when mixed with politics, but their philosophy and teachings, their cosmovision gives us a human basis as Dalai Lama said on the video.
