I hope one day we get another game that has the insane depth, mystery, and excitement that Elden Ring gave us and still gives us to this day. There's not been another game in my 20+ years of gaming that had the incredible feeling it gave playing through the first time. Side details like this is one of the reasons this game is so special

I didn’t use one for Elden ring and that was the best most immersive first playthrough of any game I’ve ever played. But I agree with you while dark souls has incredibly deep lore and environmental story telling, Elden ring is truly an adventure game and the best one I’ve played by far only breath of the wild comes close.

Would really recommend the recent god of wars, I feel like that’s gonna be controversial here especially because I think they’re harder (at least on higher difficulties). They have different strengths despite being kinda similar. If they could combine god of war story with the general rest of Elden Ring it’d be game over. But either way probably a solid chance you’ve already played anyway

Side note: Quelaag also revealed that the hilt of the weapon of the person in [ 7:11 ] is actually the exact same hilt as Radahns Greatswords - recognised as having been “engraved with a lions mane motif”. The incredibly insightful connections made in this video makes me reinforce to myself that Eochaid, the “lions mane motif”, and House of Marais (and Tannith) are all connected by the shadow lands. You also see Tanith as related to Eochaid? Glad I'm not the only one. Tanith was a dancer and Eochaid was well known for being the "land of dancing blades". Wouldn't it be interesting if there was a trait of Red Hair that actually came from Eochaid? If you ask me, Patches gave one of the largest pieces of evidence for what the culture in Eochaid is like... "Daddy Ambition is head over heels for Lady Blasphemy." Rykard fell in love with Tanith and that is how he fell to "blasphemy." Tanith is one of the primary causes for the reason Rykard took to Eiglay. This is (in my honest opinion) related to the Red/Gold dichotomy that is absolutely everywhere once you see it. Red - Destruction, vitality, consumption (Dragon Communion Seal) Gold - Growth, restoration, preservation (Erdtree Seal) Red - Serpent Worship (Shadow Lands) Gold - Tree Worship (Higher Plane, where you fight the Elden Beast) The "Lands Between" is literally the land between this Red/Gold war and will shift between Red and Gold normally. Before it was time of Red through the Fell God, before that it was Gold with the rise of beasts and dragons. This is why Dragon Communion is blasphemous, "blasphemy" to the realm of Gold is the "Consumption" of power from one to another. You feed on dragon hearts to gain the their power (spells). Your eyes turn into that of a serpent's (yellow slits). It is the faith of the Serpent. Recusants are also "worship" of this as Bernahl states, "To take power and make it his own."

The Shaded Castal is one of my favorite areas in the game. They did a great job with it's design.

RE: 04:51 -- I think this is may be a typo and should say "Just desserts" -- Someone getting their "Just Desserts" is a bad outcome that directly relates to their own actions. In this case, Maleigh Marais' just desserts for shirking his duty is the fall of House Marais into ruin.

Is it just me or does the hair on the Marais mask look an AWFUL lot like Godfrey's hair

07:58 This guy appears to have the same cultural aesthetic as someone from Eochaid. A lot of Eochaidian gear appears to be based off of Roman culture, we can see this in Regalia of Eochaid (a Spatha). This could be a trait of how Celtic Auxiliaries in the Roman Armies brought with them their forms of weaponry, which translated into the Spatha. The Briar set looks very familiar and the shoes are also similar to the Duelist greaves (a traditional Roman style footwear of the sandal-like base that covers the shin). All of which have the same extended tasset appearance. The DLC will heavily involve Eochaid I speculate. I feel there is a very, very heavy "Gold/Red" dichotomy in the game, the magic of Eochaid is shrouded in dark crimson red which would inherently put them at odds with the land of the Erdtree.

Isnt the new region the Eiochaad region we see referenced throughout the story? All the clues about the Boss as the Shaded Manor and the item descriptions from the various weapons and gear you get from it leads to this conclusion.

Eiochaad is barely mentioned, and gives the impression that it’s a foreign land like the land of reeds.

There’s a character in The Kingdom Of Heaven that is wearing a similar face mask. I just watched a video essay about movie quotes and I saw a clip of Kingdom Of Heaven. I haven’t seen this movie, but now I see this visual connection to Elden Ring I’m going to check it out.

(Don't read, totally off base comment). A detail to consider about the Marais Executioner sword is that it seems ill-suited as a tool for execution. When one thinks of execution by sword, they probably think of beheading. But the sword seems too large, unwieldy, and blunt for this purpose, not even coming to a point at the end. Indeed, it feels kind of reminiscent of the Dragon Bone Smasher from DeS. Which makes me think their executions were indeed brutal, "grim work."

...that's what execution swords look like traditionally... They don't have a tip because they don't need a tip. They aren't used for fighting so there's no need for a point to penetrate armor, it's also so big and heavy so that the blade fully slices through with a single swing to be more humane and not require several repeated and gruesome swings as the neck bone isn't easy to get through, it becomes fairly obvious if you ever have need to remove a deers head. Sorry bud it all checks out. If you'd like an example of why a typical sword isn't cut out for cutting off heads watch the GoT clip where Theon Greyjoy tried to behead what's his ass with a regular sword and has to swing over and over again looking like a fool.

I think the curse is something akin to the omen curse. They likely originate in the shadowlands and thus have a connection to the crucible in some capacity. If crucible related, perhaps their horns or some other growth are excised leading to bleeding and sores.

This Maria’s great sword is my weapon for the dlc

Many of the ritual pots and perfumes seem to correlate with major events, like the Uplifting of Radagon or the Bloodboil of Hoarah Loux. Some of the depraved recipes feel like they can metaphorically reveal key events in the old legends Marais was obsessed with.

I'll go ahead and offer the version of the story as I see it: Long ago, ages before the War of the Giants, there was a wise, undying god of unalloyed gold. Ensha, the Sun King. He was warm and generous like sunlight. He had exceptional poise and vitality. But his lust was his downfall. He eventually fell for the flowery empyrean from Dominula, Miranda the man-eater, who tricked him with a poisoned kiss and ate his flesh. However, his royal remains clutched so tight that she had to sever her own arm to escape. The sun was eclipsed as the god was drained of color and became soulless, its former flame becoming black-gold. And in the gloam of the twilight, Miranda gained the Rune of Death and arose as the Godslaying Queen with her new Black Flame. The opaline tears and Morgott's recanted blood suggest the flame originally had shifting colors like a black opal before Maliketh sealed its power and likewise drained its color. The Royal Revenants are a haunting echo of this event, spitting poison and thrashing wildly, as are Miranda flowers. The old king's influence yet remains in the form of the Jars and the Turtles, including a trend for innuendos. And the Ironjar recipe suggests a part of his body was 'poached' by Marika in order to harden the Erdtree, and this depraved act manifested later as the black-gold of the Omen-horn curse, with nightmares of smirking elders. I'm not completely certain who the woman in the painting is, because it wouldn't be Miranda from this context. But I like the suggestion that the black-haired woman is Rennala's mother, being the former daughter of the Sun would explain her unique power over the Full Moon and why the Carians weren't considered royalty before her. My story might be totally off the mark in some places, but I think there's enough here to glue the intended story together.

Miyazaki has shown that he is a fan of H.P. Lovecraft style cosmic horror in the past with things like Bloodborne and the concept of Outer Gods, and the idea of the Lands of Shadow makes me think of another cosmic horror tale - The King in Yellow. There is also an SCP which draws inspiration from it which is called "The Hanged King". The premise of both is basically that there is a kingdom which lives separate to the real world with a darkened sky and everyone wears masks etc. The more I hear, the more I wonder if Miyazaki took some inspiration from the King in Yellow for this upcoming DLC!

I'm impressed how one can make a video about the shaded castle without discussing the statues. And how can you assume an attire called "official attire" belongs to house marais? Isn't the point it is assigned by Marika's goverment? But good point about the "leprosy masks". Never thought of it that way.

Hey there. I have few observations and questions... the divine towers shows us sculptures with a creature foetus surrounded by two snakes,mostly on top of the towers but not only. Reference to Mesmer? Then the tablehold shows two weird things...old flags in red that seems older than the rest and shows a tree with roots and what i imagine could be a snake like creature beneath the roots. In fia s room,where there is also another painting that seems to represent the base of the erdtree, but i do not think this shows lendell or even the geography of the supposed surrounding...but what stroke me the most is the tree on top of a tree on top of a tree that is sculpted just upon the entreance of the erdtree. Isn t that judt crazy?

There are so many things hiding in plain sight that only in hindsight that I’m noticing now. It seems all of the G, M, R naming convention characters are proving to be significant. That said, I can’t help but wonder if Queens Gilika, Maggie and Margot will also prove to play or foreshadow their own accursed nature in the DLC as do Godwyn, Mohg and Morgott? I think they will. Are they more lost/cursed/hidden children of Godfrey and Marika? That is a Demihuman Queen wearing the head of the Lion Dancer (same physical appearance/bite+slam attacks) being held aloft by Omen. Either way can’t wait to see!

And a spirit near the castle claims House Marais fell because of his infatuation with Malenia, which implies house Marais was around beforehand.

Well yes and no , there are a lot of revelations with each dlc but since the dlc is generally more focused, only certain stories and characters will be explored and there are a lot of story threads that won't be touched at all . Also just as much as the dlc reveals , it will also new give new questions and mysteries

There is a chance. From what we've been told explicitly we will get more lore on Marika and how she became a god. Also we'll see why Messmer was all but erased from the lore we find in game. So the lore being dumped was always there, they just never put it in the first game. I'm so stoked to see what we learn, cause there will be new info for sure

Think of approaching a fromsoft dlc as approaching a Fromsoft game. When you analyse and decipher a From game, there will of course be answers, but for the most part there is always stuff left up to interpretation (especially in the case of Dark Souls). DLCs follow this same logic. You will have more answers on the core themes and concepts (the Elden Ring, Crucible, Erdtree, Marika), but they will leave the more “unimportant” details up to interpretation possibly (Gloam Queen, glintstone, land of reeds, etc) Another thing to prepare for: They often give you confirming details on a character, but those confirming details will bring about MORE questions. E.G - expect a plot twist like Marika and Godwyn consented to his death, trying to make him the consensual King of the Dead, but ranni ruined the plan - making him an undead corpse… obviously this won’t happen, but just expect answers which reveal more questions😂

Honestly if fromsoft takes another 2 years for another dlc they should just release the script that George R.R. Martin made for them as digital bonus content for it. I would really like to see what they changed and what stayed the same plus it sounds really interesting if Elden Ring was the finale

George: Made the entire backstory and lore as well as wrote 90% of the script as a whole. Miyazaki: Wrote the modern day contemporary part of the story as the player character will encounter.

I strongly believe that we will find the Land of Reeds within the dlc. First off, the naming convention is identical to the Lands we already know, the Lands Between and Land of Shadow. Secondly, if you Google an image of reeds they look an awful lot like much of the vegetation shown in the trailer. Third, reeds are a type of plant which grows in watery or marshy environments. It's all adding up to me, given the focus already on watery imagery in the main game, that the Land of Reeds is potentially one of the realms within the Land of Shadow. Both places seem to be defined by blood and conflict as well. They legit mention blood being spilled in the trailer. Am I crazy, or am i on to something?

Was not seeing the connection before, but i see now what you mean with the "naming convention". On your note, perhaps The Lands Between is a land between the land of shadow and land of... what? Reed? Light? Only Miyazaki knows.

Personally I don’t think The Land of Reeds was anything but a reference to Sekiro

The constant banging sound in the background made it impossible for me to concentrate on what you were talking about during the video
