I think I have a clue where Radagon came from and who his mother could be. I think Radagon was definitely a seperate being born from the last fire giant, and I also believe his mother was Daedicar. As far as his joining with Marika, I think Radagon and Marika were grafted together by the Elden Beast after the shattering. As far as the miquella and Malenia's conditions, I believe that was due to Radagon being half fire giant and his mother being Daedicar, a woman who had chimera like children and possibly being the progenitor of leonine misbegotten, who are connected to Radagon by blood somehow. I think Daedicar played a much more important role in elden ring than anyone realized.

Given the aquatic nature of Death in Elden Ring, and the idea that the Helphen is a reflection of the Erdtree, guiding the heroic dead with red grace, I think it’s very possible that the design and concept of the Helphen are meant to represent a lighthouse… 👀

I think the Helphen Steeple sword is actually depicting a coniferous tree. If you look at the way the spikes on the blade are draped and stylized they look more like bowing branches. The intertwined pattern towards the base of the blade looks a lot like bark. If you notice, the ghostly trees we see in mountaintops are all conifers. Confers are notably much older than deciduous trees like the erdtree is depicted as. I suspect the Helphen, if it is a tree, is much older as well. Part of me wonders if the crucible tree was a conifer? The red colored gem is definitely no coincidence. Color is very deliberate in ER. I wonder if that is just implying something about the primordial nature of the Helphen or if there is indeed a relationship there.

hey, there's a couple areas in game that look like they got smacked by metorites or comets. Maby the Helphen got hit by what ever else took out all those spirit trees. It looks like the place was a forest before something cold exploded the area. I think the astrologers might have witnessed a comet hit that area, along with a shower of stars. There's also lots of areas that look like small comets hit and melted into lakes and/or left crystals behind. Interestingly, some patches of water look different like a couple have dark water with beings who live in death all around. my last random bit since you noticed the spirit trees, what do you think of the other bushy trees growing around? some are growing out of the frozen lake in a very not tree like fashion, more like a root growing upwards if you ask me, and they look eerily similar to the branchy things stuck in the giants?

DS3 had a similar sword called the Morion Blade, which represented the Sable Church. The Black Church wanted to end the First Flame forever and bring about the Age of Hollows, so this antithesis of the life-giving First Flame is parallel to the Helphen being opposed to The Erdtree, in a way. Both swords are black and represent a church, especially the "steeple" part.

I think people take the Ghostflame Torch description a little too literally. As I understand it, the "sealing of fate" is a metaphore for the fact that the Fallen Hawks were so bent on finding the Eternal City, that not even lack of resources would've stopped them. If they were willing to burn the bones of their comrades just to continue their search, then there was nothing left that could've made them return to the surface.

Definitely think that a Living and Spirit world duality is going on here with the in-game lore surrounding Shadow of the Erdtree. I'd imagine its very similar to the depiction of the Umbral World in Lords of the Fallen or exactly like the Old Hunter's DLC in Bloodborne. I've thought about a dark reflection of the Lands Between in a similar way the Hunter's Nightmare is like this strange parrallel recreation of the main city of Yarhnam in Bloodborne, but in Elden Ring it's like a Dark Garden Shadow Realm that mirrors the living realm in the game but with a bunch of changes to the environment between realms. Definitely a great opportunity to reimagine the game map and put a much darker spin on the world of Elden Ring. This would be a far more hostile region filled with dead heroes, slain demi-gods, and all manner of horrifing monsters ready to emerge from a hostile Dark Forest that challanges even the most experinced veterans. That is until someone can lead us through this realm of the dead and come out the otherside having faced these great challanges. This is my idea of it anyway but who knows how it will turn out once completed. Hopefully it will blow our minds! If it is a parrallel game map recreation of the main game like the Old Hunters DLC, that would be amazingly ambitious and would explain why it's taking the development time of almost an entirely new game. I'm very excited to see if this is the case. 😊👍

It probably has to do with death itself just being red, and the ability to grant death indescriminant pulls from the realm of the dead somehow, leading to maliketh’s destined death looking red, and it losing that connection to death when maliketh seals it, causing the black flame to lose its color.

Can we really not derive any meaning from to bottom of the blade? The way you've phrased it, to me, invokes the themes of severance and interconnection; on a more macro-perspective the entirety of the sword, to me, invokes a lighthouse. Both physically and metaphysically the base of the lighthouse seems important to me, I might also note there's an especially interesting juxtaposition here with the Erdtree, I think, which in itself could very well be a representative of the duality of mortality. Mortality's Duality: The lighthouse, typically seen as a guiding beacon in the darkness, symbolise the inevitability of mortality; a constant reminder of life's journey towards its ultimate end. The tree on the other hand, typically associated with growth and death, highlighting the contrast between the static nature of the lighthouse and the dynamically ever-changing cycle embodied by the tree. Clearly Elden Ring reshuffles these traits which has it's own implications, but, I dare say; we might very well be able to derive some meaning from the bottom of the blade.

I wrote that around the three minute mark, all in all it seems to hold up pretty well post-video; that said I didn't want to tarnish my original comment with all its imperfections so I'll just reply to myself I guess? Consider this a footnote, perhaps food for thought. Thinking about the base, more aptly the foundation, of the blade strongly invoked the Zohar; the middle section especially reminiscent of the title page of what I think was the first print of the Zohar. For those unaware, the Zohar is a foundational text in Kabbalah; which, I might add, is a form of Jewish mysticism. Its discussions explore both spiritual and mystical concept and topics include the nature god, the structure of the universe, and the soul's journey. Within Kabbalah there is this concept known as the Qlippoth which represents the unclean or impure husks; husks in turn referring to the distorted, impure, aspects of divine energy which are seen as obstacles, impurities, that need to be transcended or overcome. ~[I don't even necessarily want to but this too harkens back to the bottom of the blade.. Considering the term husk is symbolic and represents a spiritual shell or barrier that veils the pure divine light; the saw-like edge symbolizes cutting through the barrier while the hatchwork represents the intricate connections between the physical and spirit realms, creating a bridge for smooth transition perhaps, together they suggest a guiding tool with the ability to navigate and facilitate the journey to the spirit realm.]~ The Qlippoth, basically mirroring the divine Sephiroth, is sometimes visualised as a reversed tree; in other symbolic representations it is portrayed as a realm or dimension that exists in opposite to the divine order, often described as shadowy, chaotic and impure. Other imagery may also include dark shells or husks surrounding the divine sparks, a representation of the distortion or corruption of divine energy. I haven't watched Crunchy's video yet, I will however; colour me intrigued. That said, could the notion perhaps ultimately prove reversed? Could it be that what we experience is actually the reverse? That would make for one hell of an interesting DLC if you'd ask me.

Interestingly, the blade's design looks like an exaggerated/stylized version of an outline of a Scandinavian Stave Church, and Scandinavia is where the idea of Valhalla comes from. Just like the Helphen's Steeple describes, an afterlife for those who die in battle. There's some Norse imagery/connection with this blade, for sure. This also connects with the Norse tales about Ragnarök, a war at the end of the world between Gods and Fire Giants, similar to what happened at the Mountaintop of the Giants. 2:55 The right angled edges and interlocking pattern could be a further reference to Stave Churches as they were built of interlocking pieces of wood, held together with tension rather than nails or glue.

3:43 i think there is a chronological error. The rune of death was not removed after shattering the Elden Ring. It never was a part of the Elden Ring to begin with - it was in the possession of the Gloam-Eyed queen which Maliketh had slain and took the rune into his blade on Marika's behalf. Maliketh was storing the rune within his sword all this time which is why Ranni was able to steal a fragment of it, before Maliketh sealed the sword within his own flesh. This all happend before the shattering of the ring. So the rune of death was rendered inactive way earlier

I'm under the impression that her pattern is more unalloyed gold from Miquella. For What it's worth, I think the Candletree Wooden Shield description is a red herring, as the candle tree, seems to be akin to the lampwood as minor erd trees are to the greater erd tree. As such, perhaps the candletrees (what I believe are the things we interact with) are related to but different in function from the lampwood. If the lampwood provides guidance to the dead, perhaps the candletrees are a mechanism to allow the dead to provide guidance to the living.

In most games I'd roll my eyes at this level of speculation, but in the souls series the devs have been nutorious for placing everything with a distinct reason behind it. We've had ingame items allude to future dlc before so I think you're definitely on to something with this weapon. Also I'm interested to learn about the era before the Erdtree too. The gods seem to take turns running things and the other forces of the world are working against the Greater Will almost as if it has over stayed it's welcome as chief deity.

The dlc will probably be inside of a dream just like bloodborne. Miquella is all about dreams and mind control. Now he’ll be tainted by blood because of Mohg. Some of it might be inside of a painting that you can enter. Some parts of the dlc might take place in the past via Faram Azula.

The hatchwork design at the base of the Helphen Steeple might represent the pave stones on the road leading to the steeple. It’s like they took a picture of a cathedral and made a sword from it.

any wotlk fans? frost morion. I truley believe this blade is a reference to the lich kings blade. Remember how Frostmourne would steal souls and send them to the shadowlands prison? very similar to the death rite in elden ring. I think the blade depicts both a tree and the tower of a church too, which also reminds me a bit of Icecrown Citadel. I got a 150 Lich king cosplay and I got to say the blade is amazing.

Sooo ..Helphen to the Lands Between is like the Helheim to Valhalla? And..based on Helpen Steeple i'd speculate, that just as Marika is the major god in Lands Between, then Ragagon is the Main god in Helphen ... both realms exist connected by the Erdtree (just like realms in Norse mythology) Going further with comparission to Norse mythology, that would explain why Miquella is in Helphen, since he didn't die in battle as Us - the Tarnished (Einherjar).

I think in the dlc we will see that miquella is actually a bad guy, not to be a berserk tard but it would go well with his mirroring of griffith. In berserk ppl see griffith as this gentle godly angel, but the main characters of the series are aware he is a demon that commited atrocities against those closest to him to achieve his godhood. His entire plan was making a city at the base of the world tree that would house every type of life, humans, demons, spirits, everyone was welcome just like in miquellas tree. I really think we'll find out miquella did some awful stuff to achieve his goals, maybe even freed destined death or more than that?

We can't be so simplistic about translations, the way a lot of people in fandom are eager to be. 「灯火の樹」 doesn't inherently mean "tree of light" with no other interpretations. Look up 灯火の樹 in a jp-en dictionary (Jisho, Wiktionary, whatever) and you'll see definitions including light, lamp, torch, illumination... If you want to make a conclusion about what the Japanese text was originally meant to describe, you'd need to consult someone with a strong understanding of both modern usage of terms, and whether they might have a different implication in medieval/fantasy fiction. Otherwise, we have to do our own research and be open to a lot of possibilities (including, y'know, the fact that the English translations might closely match the Japanese text), and not just trust someone who read the first definition in a dictionary, or pasted something into Google Translate, and then made a post somewhere about how the English text is wrong
