That was my take too. They can't be posed or really played with. Almost like they expected franchise collectors to snap them up and shelve them mint in box awaiting the great return on investment one day. *snort* Those days are long gone. I know a toy collector, he says his collection is worth maybe 60% of what he paid for it.

As for the "white Ariel doesn't sell anymore" idea, I can personally say that when I saw a pair of Little Mermaid shirts available at Hot Topic last month, I was tempted to buy the original redhead design because I would absolutely wear it since she'll always be my favorite Disney princess, but I didn't want to give Disney my money by buying through a licensed vendor. The thing that gets me about these toys is the PRICE. A lot of them feel like they're too expensive for their quality and when you consider how many toys are fighting for attention in the aisels and what parents have to pick and choose, I can see where the whole argument over 'video games sell better' is coming from because you CAN get more play from a 50 dollar game than you will from a 40 dollar toy of stuff that a lot of kids aren't interested in. It may sound like 'video games killed the toy' but take into consideration that physical toys and games have been together since the 80s yet there were still so many popular line of toys that worked and made millions alongside games so what happened? This isn't something that just came into existence. The answer just comes to do kids really care about the shows and movies that these toys are spawned from and the answer is clearly NO. Kids don't fucking care and at the same time, it feels like Disney is more akin to the teen-adult collector market to pick up the tab as they remembered how the collector market rose up from the original Kenner Star War toys. The big thing about that was that NO ONE expected the value of those figures to rise the way they did and that goes for a lot of toys. No one expected them to be so valuable down the line given that kids rough house with toys that anything that survives that is a miracle. I have always said that Disney is trying to artificially create a 'collector market' with these toys and doing it in such disastrous ways. First, they flooded the market with these figures when that wasn't the case with toys that are infamous now. A lot of high valued collector toys were made in smaller batches which makes their value sky rocket because there are so few left in good condition. All Disney has done is create a world of pegwarmers that no one wants.

@@daishikaze3986 They really don't. It why I brought up the adult collector market. They're trying and failing to artificially create that collector market but are pricing the toys at what I'd like to call 'adult prices', not those for frugal parents who want to get something for their kids who WILL rough with it but kids roughing toys is a good thing; it means they love it It could also explain the poor structural quality as well. These kids would crumble in kids' hands so it's like they anticipate the idea of these toys being unopened and left on display shelves.

Toys like The Transformers or Skylanders sold excellently because they weren't that expensive, but you always wanted to own more of them because seeying the show/play the game either made you like the character/needed it for the game or you just liked the figure/thought their design was cool. Collectors enjoyed Transformers too because Hasbro realized there was a genuinely worth market for people who enjoyed collecting figures: they sold so well and for so long because Hasbro cared about making the franchise up to quality (for the most part at least). No company today seems to understand that consumers won't buy their stuff if it's not made with real interest or soul. Even the so called evergreen market, the kids that make their parents buy toys, failed them, because would you guess it, KIDS AREN'T STUPID.

physical toys generally just aren't popular anymore for audiences other than the very young or manchildren and those are limited audiences. Plus the economy is just awful.

The jean grey was on sale for $19.50. Orange price tag. And Indiana jones figures sitting on shelves is nothing new. The 3.75 inch figures sat on shelves 15 years ago for YEARS. Kids just aren’t interested in Indiana jones, the adults are. A lot of the 6 inch figures are just getting to stores; gotta give it sometime.

Great video! I was at a general store in Cape May New Jersey not long ago and they still had a lot of Shang Chi merchandise on the pegs. I felt like going up to the attendant in the store and telling them that it was never going to sell, but I just left it alone.

When I was a kid the toy aisle was packed full of toys. Lots of high quality star wars and other great things, plus some stuff I didn't care about but still. Now it's so sad to go down there and see tons of empty spaces, and what's not empty have the same few figures with crap quality to them. Such a shame. Also screw Disney for ruining my, and so many other people's, childhood.

How long do places like 'Ollies' keep the unsellable toys on display, and what's their next stop after failing to sell at the discount stores? I'm guessing that they LITERALLY couldn't give the stuff away if they wanted to, and everything has to be disposed of so they toymakers can 'write off' the products on their taxes or whatever? So it all just eventually becomes landfill?
