    I feel sad for kids these days. My memories of the crowded toy stores from the early 80's, how going to the toy store was the highlight of the week, you would meet kids there and just play around - and of course the anticipation of what you might get for birthdays and Christmas. I'm so glad I grew up when I did.

    I'm sure the kids will do fine. They're just playing computer games now instead of actual toys. We had to use toys to relieve our favorite moments from movies or TV, or create our own stories with those toys. These kids play their favorite characters already in games. No real need to do that with actual toys of them. I leave it up to you if that is an improvement or not, personally I don't think so, but toys of movies or shows is basically for adults mostly. In which case the mismatch between their intended market and the market they could have had is deliciously ironic.

    I think you see two stories here. One, the toy companies way over produced because Phase 1 - 3 of Marvel was successful and Star Wars was a "no brainer" because it was Star Wars. Two, the toys are targeting males but are all female focused. That is like putting GI Joe into the Barbie Collection and expect them to sale because they have rainbow color print schemes. The girls don't want action figures, and the boys don't want metrosexual male dolls. The sad thing is that Disney ongoing poor production choices are impacting all of their partner companies.

  • @superdave8248

    @superdave8248

    10 ай бұрын

    @@redohealer2 I'll be honest. Part of it is likely existing contracts. They signed contracts for high purchase orders that favored the manufacturers because they wanted to ensure they got items on the shelves when they were immediately available. But beyond that, I do think Disney specifically tired to control the social media narrative very early. KZread is very male oriented and I honestly believe Disney targeted content producers that were critical of their business plan and poor performances in the theaters or Disney + releases. What changed? Elon Musk took over Twitter. People really started to pay attention to how abusive the demonitization rules were especially on KZread towards a certain category of content creators, and the Hulu purchase in less than six months has literally sapped all the oxygen from the room from Disney. They simply don't want to invest the money to fight any more unless giving up is going to cost them more than the fight (delay action). As of this writing people who support Disney will say, "but Disney stock price is above $83. It is slowly going up.". But $83 is almost at a 9 year low. And even mainstream media is looking at Disney as a gutted fish in the ocean bleeding out and the sharks smell the blood in the water. The longer this strikes goes on, the more likely it is that Disney isn't going to have any content to put out in 2024. A time when they will need to fill the coffers. Netflix will just run another series of K-Dramas to fill their content needs. But Disney doesn't have that option. And all the studios will be slow to produce any new content that isn't reality TV driven.

    @@Bullitt3401 Been there, done that, wrote the travel guide. But a other things should be pointed out. A 12 inch figurine isn't an "action figure". That is a doll. It is targeted towards the girls. A 3 - 6 inch figurine is an action figure and not a doll. It is targeted towards the boys. So here is where Disney and the toy manufacturers messed up. The 12 inch figurines needed a cos-play element that they simply aren't designed for. They need to blend in with other outside toy lines like Barbie. I just don't see "Iron Man" hanging out at Barbie's Dream House. Now if Iron Man could come out of his suit and be dressed up like Ken ... that is another story. So without some element of play-ability with other toy lines, those figurines aren't going to sale. You are asking girls to change the way they play. To transition from girly pursuits such as fashion to combat play that the boys would likely pursue. The 3 - 6 inch figurines are "action figures". This is more in line with combat play. The boys simply aren't going to have a collection of female characters. Our own society doesn't even draft women into combat yet Disney and toy companies seem to think females in combat style toy lines are going to sale well. Nope, which is why they find their way to places like Olies. Then you have the accessories. The planes, trains, and automobiles. Notice that Olies doesn't have these for the 12 inch "dolls". Did the toy companies even make these? I have no idea, but I have my doubts. So Barbie doesn't get a combat jet from Black Panther. Instead they push these combat vehicles with a female toy line that is targeted at boys. And the boys aren't playing with them. Had those same vehicles come with male figurines, they probably would have sold quite well. But you can't push male characters when the movie is female centric. And that is why Disney is failing on the toy front. They not only don't understand their customer base, they also don't understand how to properly market their merchandise lines.

    Eh, depends on the age. My three year old twin boys love Hotwheels, Disney Cars, Paw Patrol, and that “Spidey and friends” kid’s show toys. And my little girl loves her dolls, stuffed animals and various play sets. My 4 year old niece is obsessed with her Jurassic Park toys. But looking at the shelves it does look like there is an extreme drop in interest for products targeting the 8-17 demographics.

    It's a different mechanic. We had to use toys of our favorite shows and movies to relive them, or create new adventures. For those of us old enough to see SW in the theater we didn't even have a video of SW or ST until the VHS home entertainment market came along later. Toys was really all we had to connect with the original trilogy. With videogames however you don't need toys to connect with your heroes, you actually control them already in the game. Call it sad, but it is a different mechanic. Although I reckon these kids will join us buying toys of their favorite game characters as they grow up.

    I don't think so. They're not good SH figure arts basically. And the scale doesn't work. Also too much Batman. It's like Todd McFarlane has a Batman fetish or something. Also the lack of accessories. So I don't know seems like a a bad argument to me. 🤓💀 muh muh muh mid

    I actually bought a Rey (Dark Side Vision) figure from the Star Wars: Black Series collection. It's pretty well done, and I bought it because I feel it was a tragedy that Rey didn't turn to the Dark Side. If Rian Johnson was a good writer, he would've had Rey turn at the end of The Last Jedi, at least so he could give Episode IX a good set-up.

    It shows you how bad these brands have failed. Ten years ago the toy aisles you’d have a wide selection of toys that both kids and adults wanted from SW, Marvel to Disney. Now those aisles have shrunk and clogged with merchandise no one wants because you have out of touch executives making bad decisions for these franchises and have utter contempt for their fanbases. They didn’t want listen to the warnings. Disney gets to reap what it deserves now. Suggestion, is there anyway to find out when this deluge of unwanted merchandise gets shipped to recycling by Ollie’s or another store? That would make for an interesting video if you could film it.

    I miss when I could walk into the toy aisles at Walmart or Target and find Neopets plush in a small box somewhere between the Pokemon and Webkins. I haven't been to my Ollies in a few weeks, but the last time I was there, the amount of Disney Marvel and Star Wars books they had was hefty. I didn't even notice if there was a bunch of unsold DC books, but I'll bet there were and I totally missed it. I wish I could submit my own store videos and photos so that this channel can have a bonus video compiling footage from fans. Maybe it could be by region or state depending on how many submissions you receive: one is called, "Toy Shelves from California Outlets," and another one could be, "Tennessee is Seeing Unsold Toy Lines Here," etc. Keep it fun, of course. ^^
