I feel sad for kids these days. My memories of the crowded toy stores from the early 80's, how going to the toy store was the highlight of the week, you would meet kids there and just play around - and of course the anticipation of what you might get for birthdays and Christmas. I'm sure the kids will do fine. They're just playing computer games now instead of actual toys. We had to use toys to relieve our favorite moments from movies or TV, or create our own stories with those toys. These kids play their favorite characters already in games. No real need to do that with actual toys of them. I leave it up to you if that is an improvement or not, personally I don't think so, but toys of movies or shows is basically for adults mostly. In which case the mismatch between their intended market and the market they could have had is deliciously ironic.

In retrospect, "Guardians of the Galaxy" may have been the worst thing that happened to Marvel: it made them believe they could turn any set of characters into mainstream stars. @superdave8248

I think you see two stories here. One, the toy companies way over produced because Phase 1 - 3 of Marvel was successful and Star Wars was a "no brainer" because it was Star Wars. Two, the toys are targeting males but are all female focused. That is like putting GI Joe into the Barbie Collection and expect them to sale because they have rainbow color print schemes. The girls don't want action figures, and the boys don't want metrosexual male dolls. The sad thing is that Disney ongoing poor production choices are impacting all of their partner companies.

@superdave8248
10 ай бұрын
@@redohealer2 I'll be honest. Part of it is likely existing contracts. They signed contracts for high purchase orders that favored the manufacturers because they wanted to ensure they got items on the shelves when they were immediately available. But beyond that, I do think Disney specifically tired to control the social media narrative very early. KZread is very male oriented and I honestly believe Disney targeted content producers that were critical of their business plan and poor performances in the theaters or Disney + releases. What changed? Elon Musk took over Twitter. People really started to pay attention to how abusive the demonitization rules were especially on KZread towards a certain category of content creators, and the Hulu purchase in less than six months has literally sapped all the oxygen from the room from Disney. They simply don't want to invest the money to fight any more unless giving up is going to cost them more than the fight (delay action). As of this writing people who support Disney will say, "but Disney stock price is above $83. It is slowly going up.". But $83 is almost at a 9 year low. And even mainstream media is looking at Disney as a gutted fish in the ocean bleeding out and the sharks smell the blood in the water. The longer this strikes goes on, the more likely it is that Disney isn't going to have any content to put out in 2024. A time when they will need to fill the coffers. Netflix will just run another series of K-Dramas to fill their content needs. But Disney doesn't have that option. And all the studios will be slow to produce any new content that isn't reality TV driven.
This reminds me of the collapse of the baseball card market back in the late 80's.

@@Bullitt3401 Been there, done that, wrote the travel guide. But a other things should be pointed out. A 12 inch figurine isn't an "action figure". That is a doll. It is targeted towards the girls. A 3 - 6 inch figurine is an action figure and not a doll. It is targeted towards the boys. So here is where Disney and the toy manufacturers messed up. The 12 inch figurines needed a cos-play element that they simply aren't designed for. They need to blend in with other outside toy lines like Barbie. I just don't see "Iron Man" hanging out at Barbie's Dream House. Now if Iron Man could come out of his suit and be dressed up like Ken ... that is another story. So without some element of play-ability with other toy lines, those figurines aren't going to sale. You are asking girls to change the way they play. To transition from girly pursuits such as fashion to combat play that the boys would likely pursue. The 3 - 6 inch figurines are "action figures". This is more in line with combat play. The boys simply aren't going to have a collection of female characters. Our own society doesn't even draft women into combat yet Disney and toy companies seem to think females in combat style toy lines are going to sale well. Nope, which is why they find their way to places like Olies. Then you have the accessories. The planes, trains, and automobiles. Notice that Olies doesn't have these for the 12 inch "dolls". Did the toy companies even make these? I have no idea, but I have my doubts. So Barbie doesn't get a combat jet from Black Panther. Instead they push these combat vehicles with a female toy line that is targeted at boys. And the boys aren't playing with them. Had those same vehicles come with male figurines, they probably would have sold quite well. But you can't push male characters when the movie is female centric. And that is why Disney is failing on the toy front. They not only don't understand their customer base, they also don't understand how to properly market their merchandise lines.
Was in an antique store this morning, saw a boxed G1 Transformers Hot Rod. Felt really old at that. But don't think any of these toys will be antiques in 40 years (maybe Shang-chi will still be in Ollie's)

I would like to see an Admiral Holdo doll ziptied to an under rim toilet bowl scent hanger.
The Shuri copter has now started to infect our local goodwills there are nearly 10 to 15 in every corner of the goodwill.
Love the Laverne and Shirley reference. Didn't think I'd catch one in 2023. Nice.
Those Mighty Morphine Power Rangers 30th anniversary Zords are a good find
I would be so embarrassed to have an action figure made to look like me and then nobody buys it.
12:45 Well, That's Funny THOUSANDS OF WAKANDA FOREVER TOYS acumulated while there's only 2 Boxes of Optimus & Bumblebee
As an unwilling Disney shareholder, this has ruined my day.
Love the shoutout to the channel written on the box at 1:22. Youd best believe not a single person at that store will care about that box of trash being vandalized.
Can’t wait for the Indy toys to show up lol

The Fleabag doll will give Admiral Holdo a run for her money!
My kids and I often peruse the action figure aisle just to see how much dust has accumulated on all the Disney merchandise.
Great seeing you are the end! I was broken hearted that there were no Rose Tiko's for sale.
This crap isnt even worth the money in the clearance section I remember when starwar figures increased in price over the years Maybe the original figures from the first 3 starwars movies are still worth money But the crap now isn't worth anything
I wonder if the the use of fossil fuels for plastic would drop like 40% if disney stopped making toys for a few years.
The toy figure is starting to become a dying breed and it is truly sad to see and I hope that toys make a comeback just like vinyl records did. As for Windham Rotunda(Bray Wyatt) he had the whole world in his hands and now his candle has been put out way too soon and now he is at peace with Brodie.
1:22, love the message "Charlie" wrote to you on the Shuri Copter box tray, lol!
That amount of toy plastic left on those shelves is nauseating.
Depends on age but some kids who have nothing and never receive a Christmas present or birthday gift would gladly take any of those toys to play with. What a damn waste for them to sit and rot
There is only one solution to the disney toys not selling. The store managers should set fire to them and commit insurance fraud for the payout.
Ollies is so desperate to clear this stuff out of their existing locations that they're opening new locations just to move it to.
I work at a liquidation bin store, and we have so many disney toys that were on clearance. We cant sell any and have to donate all of it.
I see these things every time at the local bargin bins shop that sell shit that won't sell otherwise and most times do not lol!!!
Everytime I saw a Shuri or Eternals Toy a Wet Fart Noise comes to me.
These are always so much fun. I didn’t about the Ollie’s store until you showed us the place.
So these stores buy this crap at cents on the dollar! What do they do after it does not sell? To the landfill and write it off?
This is the result of alienating your target audience by wizzing on their favorite characters and then expecting them to hand over their money.
My local Walmart has a lot of the Wakanda Monopoly and other Black Panther figures on clearance.
8:10 you should get little yard sale stickers and place one on the back of these and just make a little mark on it like counting days in prison. I'm pretty sure there's only the stock boy and your finger prints on these figures.
Do kids care about action figures these days? My nephew cares mostly about electronics and apps. Hasbro should give up and stop polluting the earth with unwanted plastic trash.
I would really be surprised if people did buy that rubbish, what were they thinking?
I know that toy areas in places like Ollie's are filled with disney trash. But I do wonder how horrible the Marvel Comics shelf in Ollie's look like. They have to dump those unsellable trash somewhere.
I just love these please keep them coming 😅😅😅😅
I forgot about outlet stores like Ollie's! This brings back so many memories just replace the 2020s junk with 2000s junk
I wish someone would ship these discount toys to our country, they sell these for full price here. I guess central Europe is a different market...

cheaper to ship them to a landfill
5:10 That's Fireman Sam, Surprised there's no logo on the box, is Fireman Sam not a thing in the US?
6:09 You could make a video where you show off the good toys that you have bought over the years and why you bought them.
I see the same overstock shelves in the Walmart in my area. one day to point, but it's another data point to add to the list to help us come to a conclusion
Go back & get that knight fall Batman son!
We are all laughing at you, Bob Iger.
they will end up paying people to throw them into a land fill
