They probably had the guy practice a whole bunch to make sure he didn’t get injured. They wouldn’t just put a bike rider in a suit all of a sudden and have him perform tricks

How about an entire park that's gone? Astroworld in Houston. You could maybe follow where the major rides (Excalibur, Greased Lightning, Texas Cyclone, etc.) went... Whether it was to other parks or scrap. I spent so many hours there growing up and I'd love to know if any of the rides are still around somewhere.

Only the park's Vekomas are still in operation today. Serial Thriller is now Ednor: The Ride at La Ronde, Canada. Mayan Mindbender is now Hornet at Wonderland in Amarillo,TX. Texas Tornado operated at Parque Temàtico, Mexico as Tsunami from 2008 until it was scrapped in 2014. XLR-8's trains are now used on Ninja at Six Flags Magic Mountain. Greezed Lightning's trains are set to be added to Silver Bullet at Frontier City,OK for the 2018 season. All other rollercoasters were either destroyed on the Astroworld site in 2005 or moved into storage elsewhere in the country; never to be reassembled.

texas tornado and greezed lightning are Schwarzkopf coasters XLR-8 is made by arrow huss and batman greezed lightning are in storage batman in darien lake in new York and the other in new mexico at cliffs amusment park

The Man From Krypton damn, it's been happening to me in a different way. I get other notifications on videos I watched earlier, maybe because I watched them too early.

I remember a lot of these old TV specials about theme park rides and the stories behind them. Brings back memories of recording them on our VCR.

Fun fact: When Captain EO reopened at Epcot, they incorporated the theater effects from Honey, I Shrunk the Audience into the movie.

A friend of mine knew the people who were contracted to build the sets for Superstar Limo, apparently Disney never paid the bill and claimed they should've been honored to work on a Disney ride.

I hope this is seen as a constructive comment because I’m being sincere when I ask this. Would it be possible for you to speak slower or have the text on screen a little longer please? I find i have a difficult time listening to the information you are giving and being able to read and process the text at the same time. I pause them a lot to be able to get everything. Maybe I’m old or stupid or something. Again I’m not trying to be rude at all, just a request/suggestion. And before anyone has something mean to say; yes, I speak English and it is my primary language.

I absolutely LOVE your show and can't wait until you begin the new season. I, too, am a HUGE fan of theme park/thrill rides and have fond memories of most of the theme park/thrill rides that you have already featured here. That comes from someone whose family is from Ohio that frequented Cedar Point, who now lives in Orlando and has been to every park in Florida as well. I can't wait for your new episodes! Hope you never stop. Keep up the great work. : )

We had the Disney travel planner VHS that the Pleasure Island clip at 5:14 is from and I was thinking about it while watching that episode! Watching this series has made me want to rewatch that tape so badly but I have no clue where to find it online now. Seeing that as a kid I couldn't wait til I was old enough to go to the Pleasure Island clubs but sadly I never got to :(

Actually, that Kongfrontation footage is from the 1989 movie The Wizard and is from the now defunct King Kong Encounter on the Universal Studio Tour in Hollywood. Note the tram in the show building is completely different from the Roosevelt Island Tram guests usually ride in

arrived here first when you had c. 250 sub, i'm not a comments person, has been great to see the channel grow - not my type of youtube stuff really - park rides an disney? - i do like history in general, i think that's probably the drew for me here in the first place haha , always insightful and great fun - i'd say a few bits 'no't included in first 5 eps - mostly first 2 - resonate with retro-ireland quite a bit, we had some of the same ad/commercial bits you had in the us, maybe some bits not included in us, or at least uk, promos/commerials on tv?, some referenced here for sure :) (back to the future), certainly some vids and promos not necessarily in the uk, that i saw mentioned here that we had versions of, we had a weird hybrid in 80s-90s in ireland , anyhow, here's to a great 2018 for defunctland :D

I miss Captain Eo. They should bring it back after Star Wars Lands opens also Tomorrowland comstruction in 2019 and 2020.

It amazes me how much themeing and backstory goes into these rides, I've never been to a big theme park, only to the fair that comes to my town during the stampede

Defunctland, would you do a history video of Pleasure Island? I used to go there a lot as a teenager and have many fun memories of the clubs. Mannequins was such a cool and unique dance club! My sister met her husband there. I really miss that whole section of Downtown Disney, now Disney Springs. Oh, and also a history video of Downtown Disney? Loving your videos!

I seen one of the Defuncted rides from my home park, Kings Island, Days Of Thunder. I miss that ride.. the building is now just used for 2 haunted houses. Such a waste

There was a Days of Thunder at Carowinds, too, and honestly I'm kind of glad they finally put the building out of its misery. The first time they replaced the movie was 007-themed and it worked pretty well, but it was all downhill from there, and the building never did stop smelling like a speedway. I think they finally demolished it a few years ago when they expanded the water park section.
