Congress party workers marked sikh houses with a red cross. My mother's non sikh family hid the sikhs in their stores with lights off. Whenever someone would come to ask where are the sikhs next door? They said they left long back. That small store is still there i see it wenever i go to naani's house it gives me chills the sikhs still live next door in the same house they are lifelong friends of my mom's family. Well no doubt about this at all, since the separation of "Sikh" as a separate religious category was undertaken by British authorities. In fact India's constitution was created not on the basis of what Hindus wanted it, but it was under created under force in 1935.

@@NoName-jq7tj Forget about similarities, tell me the "firm" differences. The word "Sikh" comes from Shishya, a disciple. The guru-shishya tradition is from the Hindu civilizational context. Swami Vivekananda, who represented Hinduism at the World parliament of religions, himself was a "Sikh" of Ramakrishna. In fact, Ramakrishna had at least 10-12 "Sikhs", Vivekananda was one of them.
