Learning all about this purgatory stuff was in a way very unique

They call its awakening, the dark night of the soul, ascending, washing of the garments. In order to begin ascending you have to defeat yourself, completely surrendering giving up the idea of control. The death of the egotistical human in you.

Yes, it happens when the biological functions like the heart beating and brain taking in oxygen ceases. Then the soulless vessel stops existing. Those running on ego and can't let go of self interests to be genuinely unselfish and a self motivator/self starter are those who are in that boat. They're just running on generic feelings and try to act like their a unique thing. One either has ego or a soul. Ego is just animal nature with a generic human skill set.

Purgatory is real... 😪 In the Old Testament. The first mention of Purgatory in the Bible is in 2 Maccabees 12:46: “Thus he made atonement for the dead that they might be freed from sin.” Some people do not accept Maccabees as book of the Bible. This is unfortunate since it is that their Bibles have been edited and are missing books. (Find out Why Catholic Bibles Are Different) Even if a person does not accept the book of Maccabees, it at least has historical value for we can learn what the pre-Christian community believed. Remember, Even if you die in a state of grace, meaning you don’t have a mortal sin on your soul, you still aren’t necessarily ready for heaven. You still may have venial sins on your soul or be too attached to earthly life. Just like you wouldn’t go to Sunday dinner dressed in rags and covered in dirt, you wouldn’t go to God’s eternal feast in heaven attached to sin and earthly concerns. 🙏🏼

And copies of the books recognized as "divine inspired" by the Nicean Council...you know, the council that defined what Christianity is and what it isnt by the founding fathers of the Church before any division between roman, orthodox, protestant, etc...they're still available to this day! Just learn greek like you average orthodox friend or see a translated version like ol' boy Luther would want you to! Or you can just read the King James's Bible, idk, you do what you want.

@The Imperishable Star That doesn’t really have much to do what I said. However the first Bible was mostly written in Greek, not Aramaic. Secondly saying it’s ‘edited’ is not necessarily correct. The discrepancies between different versions of the Bible are due to ancient inaccurate translations. The general message of course is the same. If you want the original you will have to learn Hebrew for the Old Testament and Greek for the new.

The first instances of the concept of purgatory would appear in the Vedic faith (not fully formed version of purgatory), Ancient Egyptian religions and Zoarostrianism (version of Vedic with fully formed concept of purgatory).

Sounds like a gnostic idea that grew organically as fungi of Orthodoxy.

What will your soul do when the earth is laid to waste by nuclear turmoil? When earth becomes utterly inhabitable (as the Bible predicts), will you wander a spirit in the radiated desert forever? What is "ascension" when your mind is finite, trying to become infinite? That will be an infinite pursuit, never to end. The finite will never reach the infinite, because that's not what the infinite created the finite for.

The video is interesting, nonetheless. But it lacks a radical depth of the history of purgatory, so this video with a title that it’s about the creation of the idea is misleading. It goes back to Judaism, with analogies found in the Torah. The Hebrews were on earth, as God was on top of Mount Sinai, surrounded by a cloud smoke. And when the prophet Moses went up the mountain to meet God, he had to pass through smoke. So this is an analogy that when we die, our souls climb up the spiritual mount Sinai to heaven to meet with God, which requires passing through that smoke. And this is found in 1 Corinthians 3, Saint Paul emphasizes that a soul being taken to heaven passes through a spiritual fire. Hebrews 12:29 says, “Our God is a consuming fire.” So as we draw near to God in heaven, it’s as though we pass a spiritual fire. It’s a realm before entering heaven, as Christianity is a continuation of ancient Judaic concepts. Nonetheless, this video was still very entertaining and informative!

Correct...purgatory goes back to juduism...it was made a dogma later on because our protestant brothers started questioning its reality! But purgatory is a real thing for early Christians and we can trace that through history. This anti catholic people are always misleading people!

It is in the 7 books of the bible that where removed by martin luther during the protestant reformation. It's origin is in the bible.

Not CONCEPTS of similar ideals. People have used purgatory as an umbrella word for a very long time, and he’s trying to make sure we don’t make the same mistakes.

You won't find it in a Protestant bible because they didn't include the Book of Macebes. Read it. You will find it there. At is also in the Old Testament. Forgive me I don't remember the book but I heard it in a lecture. Even though God forgives and wants us with him, we must be washed of the stains on our souls! Read the full bible!!!

It's not made up, nor is it religious. It's a process that the soul goes through. It's about values, virtues, morality, laws of the universe, karma, understanding that what you choose to do through choice and action causes everything that you experience. Wether or not you accept responsibility or choose to blame determines if you ascend. The only way is to follow christ and completely surrendering to God.

Even common sense alone necesitates purgatory.

I don’t believe in purgatory. It’s supposed to be a place where we do penance for our sins to go to Heaven. Which would defeat the purpose of Jesus sacrificing himself on the cross. His death before his resurrection was the ultimate payment for our sins. Past, present and future. All we need to do is have faith in Jesus and confess our sins to him, and we will be forgiven and go to Heaven.

When i was living in queens newyork my grandma who was very catholic would go to the candels lit in the church and pray for the souls in pergetory. The big candels were a dollor then 25 cents and 10 cents i think. But the bible says the wages that sin pays is death. Also jesus died for our sins which to me smashes the idea of pergatory so many scriptures that contradict that belief. My grandma and grandpa believed it though my grandmother would have holy water sent from rome that was blessed by the pope she said. She would be up all hours of the night praying to every saint and sprinkling holy water on me when i was sleeping. Just weird things they believed in the religon and purgetory was one of them.

Pope John Paul, in his famous allocution of the 1990"s, reaffirmed that "Purgatory was never a place, it is the condition of the soul" Amen!

I'm not surprised that Catholic Church love this passage 2 Maccabees 12:41-46 because all what it does it bring money to the church , indulgent are still very real.. Jesus never taught that you can pay to get your way out . What about poor homeless person who loves Jesus but can nor pay ? In Europe especially in Poland church takes lands, homes from old people who are so indoctrinate that are willing to give all in order to be saved from purgatory. But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanseth us from all sin. 1 John 1:7 , Catholic Church is degrading work of Jesus we don't need Jesus plus, church does not save you only Jesus does. Also God does not keep the journal with all our sins and by the end give us the bill of time in purgatory. It is one of the more disgusting heresies because it directly denies God one of His titles: Mighty to Save. Believers will pay for sins in this life just as pagans do, but at the moment of our death we are with Christ and our brothers and sisters in Heaven. Who would want it any other way? Our salvation is not based on our works in this life or the next. It is entirely on the grounds that we placed our faith and trust in Christ for the forgiveness of our sins.
