You could dye the layers different colours and then sand the edges or sand contours in them to reveal the colours lines, like they often do with knife scales (and skateboards, to a lesser extent).

Those scales and skate decks are embedded with dyed epoxy to last forever. What you could do is not make this and buy professionally made hardware that’ll last for years instead of weeks lol

You could get the same effect by steaming planks and pressing them , that's how ski's where made when they used wood for them , and it would probably look better

No it would be. Just counter sink a hole in each end and use a nice-looking countersunk screw, maybe bronze or brass, or even plunge route a small receptacle and glue in a nut on each end that a slim bolt can grab from the inside of the draw, like most handles work. You could even just glue it directly to the draw face, the possibilities are endless if you have any clue.

@@PinataOblongata I’ve been woodworking for 30 yrs, I’ve learned a thing or two buddy. I do this all the time it’s surprisingly strong. You do need to cut the boards very thin (literally veneer thin) and it only works with certain types of wood. I built an entire chair out using this technique.

This is why glue bonds etc don't work very well... Wood grain needs to be bent using steam and held whilst it is dried into that position to hold the fibres. With glue your trying to force the fibres into position and then trying to hold a stressed joint with glue holding the fibres. So in effect your pre loading the joint and it will fail. I build guitars etc so I know about pre load and dealing with stress. It's like trying to work metal that's not been annealed. It's going to have lots of stress and won't be flat. If you steam the joint into position then glue them parts together it will take out any pre load stress and be much stronger

Oh yeah, you're always seeing wood glued with PVA come apart... why would you even make this comment if you don't know wtf you're talking about? Are you even a woodworker? Unless you used them out in direct sunlight and rain and weather where they could constantly swell and contract, they'd last just about forever.

@@PinataOblongata I never see anyone stupid enough to rely exclusively on wood glue to hold stress bearing assemblies together. It might be fine if it were a decorative piece, but this is proposed to be a handle so it will have to deal with flexing stresses. Oh, and wood doesn't only expand and contract by sunlight and rain. Any changes in temperature and humidity will do.
