My wife wanted that wood tile look for flooring in our home living room & hallway leading to the bedrooms.. Took alot blood sweat & beers 🍻 but we got it done after a few weeks..I layed it down like tile using a special floor adhesive with the recommended notched trowel. Used fine saw & sanding dust mixed with a shellac for grout & knot filler. Rented a floor sander to smooth it out then hit it with a couple coats of walnut stain followed by one coat of wax free shellac & finally finished it off with a couple coats of Bona Traffic HD commercial satin, it's always a hit with guests who see it for the 1st time. Even repeat visitors just zone out starring at all the wood grain & knot patterns..

@@TheBooze13 The milling process was no joke, laying it down was probably the most time consuming part I'm kinda OCD so the details is all I look at.. Not too many knots in a given area making sure the grain was random looking & measure the fill in cuts along walls.. Once I got to grouting and sanding it was smooth sailing..

Personally there is never such thing as scrap wood as you can find a use for even sawdust when wood working but that’s neither here or there. Depending on the work it was originally sourced for you can have enough good lengths and conditions to be useful for a project like this but surplus to its original use.

Definitely had a awesome plan but the execution was horrific!! Just look at the mortises being far to long (you can still them with cat playing), all the fitting are either slack or too tight (look when he turned the legs around cause they did fit, then they nearly fell over once swapped around),and he’d screwed long grain to cross grain with far too many screws. Absolutely no allowance for expansion. Piss poor joinery skills in my eyes. I think I could do better with a screwdriver and a rock!

I had an old carpenter friend that I did plastering work for that took 2x6’s, stained them dark brown, cut into 1/4” pieces and lay them out in a tile floor configuration, then take sawdust and mix with acrylic epoxy to use for the grout lines. Painstaking work but he did an awesome job!

All good and good work and nice idea. Thanks for making the video. The only question and possible criticism would be the deep grooves in the table top will be very hard to clean, especially if food gets down in there. Could always put a sheet of tempered glass over it if it became a problem.

@@michaelw2801 my thought exactly, easy to do and would seal the top quite nicely, as long as he was to coat the bottom as well to prevent warpage. I would probably just do a shallow clear epoxy pour over the entire top, that would leave the aesthetic of the subway tile, while flattening the top and sealing it at the same time.
