The Conjuring: The History of Malthus (The Annabelle Demon) | Horror History

Фильм және анимация

The infamous "Annabelle" doll has its reputation as one of the world's most cursed objects thanks to THIS demonic entity that is bound to it.

Malthus, also sometimes known as Malphas or Halphas, is the often unseen inhuman spirit linked to the creepiest doll in The Conjuring Universe. Although Malthus is the main antagonist of the story, most fans know very little about it, including it's actual name which one comes up once in the series. It appears inside the the text of the demonic spell-book, The Devil's Welcome, which also contains rare details about the demon's complex history.
In this video I'll be analyzing everything we know about Malthus, including it's ancient history, its recent adventures in The Conjurverse, and the possible future of the of this hellish creature.
Malthus in the movies is based off of two separate "real life" influences. Obviously one of them is the supposedly haunted Annabelle doll inside Ed and Lorraine Warren's museum of cursed objects. The other is Ars Goettia, from the grimoire The Lesser Key of Solomon, a spellbook that has details on the lore of several supposed supernatural entities. Many of these have appeared in popular fiction like Annabelle, The Conjuring and Hereditary.
So I'll also compare and contrast the "real life" mythology of Malthus to the evil character we see in the movies: The Conjuring (2013), Annabelle (2014), Annabelle Creation (2017) and Annabelle Comes Home (2019).

technically demons don't have to ask permission to plague you, if you do evil or sin a lot, you will open a door to them and even if you don't sin a lot they are always around since every human sins every day. But there are also cases that people conjure demons and that is not a smart way of going about things. Even making a movie or telling a story about a demon is a form of a portal. Hell this post is. My advice stay away from demons. And if demons don't stay away from you call out to Jesus.

@@magness57gaming67 no it is a bit like in Warhammer 40k, better not talk at all, hide under a rock and await the return of Jeeeeheeeheesus. No just kidding. I actually wouldn't really know. I mean if you watch Urzula, Brandon and Elensky it is a given that demons are in control... But I think getting the backstory of the Bible would be a start. That way you can fit in all world mythology and ages and sort of see where you stand or don't stand. The Bible is basically a fairytale claiming the world is part of the fairytale described within it. And if that claim is true all ones actions move one into a particular direction. It is up to the adventurer to decide which actions to take...

Based on what we've seen, Valak seems to be SIGNIFICANTLY more powerful than Malthus. Valak took the appearance of an entire room of nuns praying (and himself appears as a holy nun figure), survived the blood of Christ being smeared on his face (and even proceeded continue to manifest Valak's physical form after posessing Maurice), physically manipulates crosses and turns them over... And let's not forget, the entirety of the events in The Nun took place in an actual monastery lol.

If it takes the demon months to convince Mia to take her own life, by threatening her baby, how was it able to convince Evelyn to take her life instantly, even after the father and herself save Mia. According to the real life case that the Warrens dealt with, Annabelle attacked the boyfriend while he was staying over at the apartment several times. She attempted to strangle him at least once while he was sleeping and the last incident before the Warrens were contacted he was left with three claw marks on his back.

If you ask me, the movie's Annabelle does look scarier than the real Annabelle, but the thought of the real Annabelle being haunted is scarier because of the fact the real Annabelle is an Innocent looking Raggedy Anne Doll which makes you wonder what else innocent looking thing out there is haunted by a demon.

One of the most ridiculous things about the Annabelle franchise is how everyone seems to inexplicably think that that doll is cute. It takes me out of it every time when people pretend that that creepy thing is something you’d want on a display shelf. It would be one thing if it looked like a normal doll and slowly deteriorated through the possession and just rinse and repeated that for every family. But no. It starts out ugly, and ends uglier.

The issue here is that they want to portary an innocent looking doll which was the case for the real doll. But since this is a movie that doll needed to be creepy so i assume the directors didn't think this part through. Therefore the appearance of the doll was ugly and scary but the actual doll is actually really cute and innocent looking which caused most of the families/people to be fooled to take the doll in

About 20:49, where you said that it's interesting how a demon as old as Malthus can mess with technology I think it makes perfect sense: In 14:29 you said that Mr. Mullins' mourning was what attracted Matlhus in the first place, which means Malthus didn't know the family at all BUT he was still able to play tricks on Annabelle's parents by doing things that only their daughter could've done. That indicates Malthus' ability to access someones memories and gain knowledge about various things. That is how I think he got knowledge about modern technology.

  • @torilong1577

Yes your not wrong but also true like this is just crazy of what Malthus can do and this proofs that Malthus can access anyone without getting to know them and he can access someone’s mind and do exactly as he wants those people to do and it’s not the one from Annabelle and to the technology acrossing the United States of America and this proofs that Malthus can do anything play tricks on your families to make them believe that it is you and then after Malthus does exactly what he wants u to do and then he possess people out of nowhere and people and your family members and thinking that it’s you but in reality it’s just the demon of Malthus demon inside you and, and the demons who possess people can cause the person itself to either have medical problems or including death or the demon itself wants you to go to hell with him so in conclusion of this comment this person was right, and not wrong. JESUS KNOCKS ON YOUR HEART AND LONGS FOR YOU TO ANSWER! HE DOESN'T WANT TO SEE ANYONE PERISH INTO HELL. GOD LOVES YOU SO HE GIVES YOU FREE WILL AND A CHOICE TO ACCEPT HIM OR REJECT HIM. TO LOVE HIM OR TO LOVE SIN/THIS WORLD. CALL UPON JESUS & ASK HIM TO FORGIVE YOUR SINS! SURRENDER YOUR WILL & YOUR LIFE TO HIM AND HE WILL GIVE YOU ETERNAL LIFE IN HEAVEN! PICTURE YOUR BEST DAY ON EARTH TIMES A BILLION FOR ETERNITY, THAT'S HEAVEN! NOW PICTURE YOUR WORST DAY ON EARTH TIMES A BILLION FOR ETERNITY, THAT'S HELL! HE WILL GIVE YOU WHAT YOU WANT SO IF YOU REJECT HIM YOU WILL BE SEPARATED FROM HIM & HIS BLESSINGS (LOVE, PEACE, JOY, HOPE, REST, ETC). IN HELL YOU WILL BE ALONE WITHOUT GOD OR PEOPLE, YOU WILL BE HOPELESS, YOU WILL BE IN DESPAIR & AGONY FOREVER! GOD'S STANDARD FOR HEAVEN IS PERFECTION AND ONLY JESUS (THE SON OF GOD/GOD IN THE FLESH) LIVED THAT PERFECT LIFE! HE LAID DOWN HIS LIFE & TOOK THE WRATH OF THE FATHER ON THE CROSS FOR YOUR SINS! GOD IS JUST SO HE MUST PUNISH SIN & HE IS HOLY SO NO SIN CAN ENTER HIS KINGDOM OF HEAVEN. IF YOU ARE IN CHRIST ON JUDGEMENT DAY GOD WILL SEE YOU AS HIS PERFECT SON (SINLESS SINCE YOUR SINS ARE COVERED BY JESUS' OFFERING). YOU CAN ALSO CHOOSE TO REJECT JESUS' GIFT/SACRIFICE & PAY FOR YOUR OWN SIN WITH DEATH (HELL) BUT THAT SEEMS PRETTY FOOLISH! GOD SEES & HEARS EVERYTHING YOU HAVE SAID & DONE. YOU WONT WIN AN ARGUMENT WITH HIM & YOU CANT DEFEND ANY OF YOUR SINS TO HIM. WE'RE ALL GUILTY WITHOUT ACCEPTING JESUS' SACRIFICE FOR OUR SINS! MUHAMMAD DIDN'T DIE FOR YOUR SINS, BUDDHA DIDN'T DIE FOR YOUR SINS, NO PASTOR/PRIEST/MARY OR SAINT DIED FOR YOUR SINS, NO IDOLS OR FALSE GODS DIED FOR YOUR SINS, NO ACTOR OR CELEBRITY DIED FOR YOUR SINS, NO ATHLETE OR POLITICIAN DIED FOR YOUR SINS! JESUS CHRIST ALONE DIED FOR YOUR SINS & WAS RESURRECTED FROM THE GRAVE! HE IS ALIVE & COMING BACK VERY SOON (THESE ARE END TIMES) WITH JUDGEMENT! PREPARE YOURSELVES, TURN FROM SIN & RUN TO JESUS! IT STARTS WITH ASKING HIM TO FORGIVE YOUR SINS & INVITING HIM INTO YOUR HEART/LIFE, SURRENDER ALL TO HIM! IT'S ABOUT A RELATIONSHIP WITH YOUR CREATOR. HE KNOWS YOUR PAIN & TROUBLES, TALK TO HIM LIKE A BEST FRIEND! ASK HIM TO REVEAL HIMSELF TO YOU & HELP YOU TO BELIEVE IF YOU DOUBT! DON'T WAIT TO CRY OUT! NO ONE IS PROMISED TOMORROW! HE LONGS FOR YOU TO INVITE HIM IN, HE LOVES YOU MORE THAN ANY PERSON EVER COULD, HE CREATED YOU! Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."-John 14:6 "But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven."-Matthew 10:33 “For the wages of sin is death (hell), but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord”-Romans 6:23

  • @remycat1108

    @remycat1108

It's probably both actually. Crosses/Crucifixes (which are technically the same thing) are divine objects made to repel or exorcise demons. - You lack faith. - It is not blessed. - You're experiencing incredibly strong feelings of which demons feed off of already (such as fear/fright, Sadness/Depression and anger/rage) My guess is that Crucifixes have to be blessed if they're to be used against an actual demon. Crosses, on the other hand, are more for keeping lesser evils at bay than exorcisms. After all the Crucifix is the image of jesus being crucified, thus you are forcing that demon to confront jesus, essentially. Just a note, im not religious so this is just thought and knowledge i have from friends and family whom are more knowledgeable than me.

Daniella was such a suprising character for me. At first she annoyed the crap out of me. But when she put up that photo of her dad, I changed my mind. Imagine being a young kid, blaming yourself for your dads death, thinking you found a way to contact him. It's so sad and my heart started hurting so much for her. She didn't mean for anything to happen. She was a desprate, mourning teenager.

I didn't like Daniella, and grew to hate her. She came over the Warrens house under false pretense from jump. Put everyone else in danger, when all she had to do was ask and talk to Lorraine. Instead she goes into a cursed objects room, and try to communicate with her dad. When she could've asked the person who has collected all the items in that room. Smh, I seen this in the theater, me and over half the room clapped when she was stabbed. What a disappointment that was.

I feel like Malthus' design is actually a callback to an early horror film Häxan. There's a demon that looks a lot like him. Or perhaps that demon was found in a similar book, but I know a lot of horror directors enjoy and reference Häxan. Most notably Guillermo Del Toro and he's often a consultant for monster and demon designs.

This video also made it really clear how the demon is able to use the same tricks or means of getting people to do exactly what it wants his victims to do in each movie.
