Built in Brighton, 1875, the 'real' Stepney has certainly been through a lot! Take a look at some of its journeys through the years, and find out something you didn't know before!

One to have more content actually related to Stepney on the channel, but also to answer once and for all some of the questions I most frequently get about "Stephanie"... Even if you are familiar with real life steam engines, I hope you find an interesting fact you didn't know before!

    Well now, that certainly was informative, you've brought historical information to an engine didn't actually know about. Especially with what Stepney smuggled out of Eastleigh which sounds a barrel of laughs! Superbly edited and well paced, you've brought limelight to Stepney's otherwise forgotten history. Well done indeed!

    Stepney was always my favorite character as a kid, I was always drawn to his paint scheme and the cheerful little theme he had in Season 4 of the TV Series. I also loved Alec Baldwin's voice for Stepney in Season 5. I wish that they would do a BWBA episode where Thomas visits the Bluebell Railway and sees Stepney again, I mean after all, Britain is outside of Sodor and if Thomas can visit America then why not the UK?

    Technically Thomas is in the UK because he was built there as a mix of other engines, like the extended side tanks of the rebuilt E2s (basically one of Thomas' base classes which would form him into the way he is, other railways like the Dean Forest Railway and Thomas' original home railway, the London Brighton & South Coast Railway) and the coal bunker of the E1s for example.

    Stepney for me represents one of the first pieces of Thomas & Friends merch I ever had. My Granddad bought his ERTL model when I was very young (probably only just starting to show interest in the show). Of course since he's (Granddad not the ERTL) long gone now the model remains very important to me, and by extension, the real locomotive itself (but I do have a great love for small engines like the Terriers anyway).

    I would love to see Stepney one day. The Terriers are just a great class of loco. I love seeing Boxhill at the NRM, and Martello at Bressingham (even though it wasn’t in Marsh umber and wasn’t running that day). They have great proportions, a wide choice of liveries and all the surviving examples have an interesting story to tell.

  • @MrJoeyWheeler
    @MrJoeyWheeler3 жыл бұрын

    Also, minor anecdote: When I went to the NRM for one of its steam galas, I was compoletely overwhelmed and had to sit down. When my head cleared, I'd realised that I had sat down staring right at Stepney, who was still in his BR Black livery at the time. I got to hop into his cab to take a look, which was really neat! (and interesting, as despite the exterior being black, his cab interior was actually a light cream colour). That really made my day.

    Stunning little film! I loved the more obscure history about the engine's trip from Eastleigh Works and the very direct way in which the Railway Series books helped to keep the little fella running! When I visited Stepney, one of the volunteers had mentioned the lawsuit bit and how their Railway Series-styled face on the engine currently is kind of a massive flex, I highly support that. Max, this is the most factual video i have ever seen. This is some 10/10 content. i didn't even know that they smuggled spare parts for him, very lucky engine indeed. So that means when his second overhaul came they used those parts! Its also crazy to hear that Stepney was in a music video!? Well now that song is stuck in my head XD. Plus it is enjoyable to go visit Stepney as it is a great dayout. Yet another great video! keep it up! yours sincerely Terrier82boxhill(Matthew)

    Loved how well detailed and well researched this whole video was - I didn't even realize Bluebell was a real railway, I always thought Stepney had just been a made for TV train. Not big into the fandom nowadays you see, but I still remember the show fondly. I didn't even know about Thomas World. So I think I have two places ticked for visit next time I go to England

    When I went to the Bluebell Railway, 3 times to visit. The first time I went, was on a normal day out. And I'd recognised Stepney, a tank engine that used to be in the "Thomas the Tank Engine" books and videos. The second 2 times I went was on a Thomas event, one at Horsted Keynes and then the other at Kingscote, where I found Stepney with Percy, on the bay platform
