Brighton Works, the chaotic and compact railway headquarters of the LB&SCR, where engines such as the Stroudley Terriers, Billinton E2s and the Marsh Atlantics were drawn and built. We take a look at the history of the area from 1841 to the end of steam, and see what remains in the present day.

So many of my favourite locos were build in Brighton: the E2s, B1s, the Atlantics, the I3s, the Terriers, D1s, E4s and even Bulleid's Leader to a certain extent. I love the Super Bell Hill/ Stepney's theme mashup too; I just wanna see more of that.
Absolutely love the Henry acoustic theme at 5:42, and the 'Stepney Bell Hill' theme in 12:40. Absolute moods

I'm saying the truth (or maybe) you guys, everyone in Thomas Fandom you guys really teach me the true meaning of Thomas of it's History is a great experience and i love this Fandom. (and even if it's starting to get toxic i don't want to get into something very mean let's all leave it behind and always be happy.) 😊
I really like how this episode started with a Terrier tank engine like Stepney coming out of the workshop
I’m going on holiday to Brighton for the week and one thing I definitely want to do is to see the station

Thanks for this fun little history video. I love a great many LBSC locos, including the A1s, E1s, D1s, Brighton Atlantics, E2s, Gladstone, E4s and although not LBSC, I do have a soft spot for Bulleid’s Leader.
Can’t wait!!! 😊
Great Video! I really enjoyed the then and now comparison in this quirky little video (the use of jokes as well as history worked perfectly). There are some really interesting locomotives that were built at Brighton, including everyone’s favourite Terriers. I really also like the E4s like Birch Grove, and the K Class 2-6-0s (which were probably one of the Southern’s best mixed traffic engines), and of course the BR Standard 4 Tanks. Keep up the amazing work!
This is gonna be awesome! Can't wait!
MORE TALKY VIDEOS PLEASE!!!! Great video Max!

I'd certainly love to see certain videos about the Locomotive Works of the LNER, like Doncaster or Darlington.

Where I live, a lot of railway lines have been ripped up but at the same time, many of the bridges and buildings from the original railways. I never would have guessed that a place as famous as Brighton Works would succumb to modern development for roadways.
2:16 Along with the K and E2 class locomotives, the LBSCR L class is one of my favourite engines built at Brighton works And yes, I am aware of the flaws with the E2 class locomotives

Oh hi Mr 55. I love your videos
Very nice vid excellent archive shots of btn and the works. As an aside , when I started at bton in the eighties I was told that a driver, can’t remember who now, went inside the works when it had closed having a nose round , looking for anything “useful “ He fancied one of the large wall clocks so had it away and went home. Turned out there was a master clock and what he’d nicked was a slave clock so by unplugging it and breaking the bus circuit every single clock in the works and on the station stopped. And it took quite a while for the reason to be discovered. And the clock was no effiing use to him either.
Nice video! You deserve a comment

@@Terrier55Stepney By the way, did you know that the Southern Railway loaned some Terriers to the GWR? Edit: Can't forget Birch Grove!
Looking back at this video it's still funny to think that I live where some of the best engines were built.
About 930 when you’re looking over the engineering dept( or what’s left of it) and Montpelier sidings. ( Montpelier junction is where the east coast lines swing away to London road viaduct ) some of that area and the sidings were rebuilt in the early nineties. The track became flatbottom and all the ash ballast disappeared and we had to stumble over mainline ballast. I got half a dozen bricks with the hardest mortar known to man still stuck on them. They d been part of a small remnant of blue brick paved walkway, probably part of the running shed ash pit area. Their paving a bit of my garden now. , a bit of the steam shed lives on
All the original books were written in the rectory my 3x great grandfather built when he was Vicar of Emneth himself.
Beautiful
It took a very long time to remove part of the chalk down which inhibited the expansion of the Works. the before and after photos were in a 1960s Railway Magazine and also in the 1935 Railway Mag.
I really want a hornby e2

Sad very little of Brighton works remains today though its nice to see some refrences and call backs to what was once there to a nearly forgotten era. Not a fan of the modern office and parking building currently standing though overtime I think it will change again after a couple of decades!
its so sad that one of the brief histories of once stood of an old era station suddenly banished
My favourite steam locomotive that was built in Brighton is Stepney built on 21st December 1875
My OC is based on Brighton's E1X No.89 the only E1 that was given Modified parts and paved way for the E2"s
Plz do more and can you do the E2s there my favorite
