    When you install the add on (VDM brush baker) there is a "create sculpting plane" and a "render and create VDM brush" button. Maybe at the time of this video that wasn't there, saves a lot of time but its still good to know how to do these steps manually. Edit: Just seen your new video on it, so never mind :)

    Oh FF.. I just read this comment after posting about exactly the same thing. I don't know if it has all the functions of doing it the manual way, but it's good enough for a newbie like me. Wow. That is an amazing tool.

    @@ArtisansofVaul I've been playing around with a few of the free brushes available with BlenderKit, so of course now I'm interested in making my own brushes. I tend to get lost around step 3 of any tutorial so this one is going to be a challenge. OH. Wait a minute! I'm using Blender 4 and there's "VDM Brush Baker" in the Tools list in the right-hand side-bar. I just tried it out. I clicked on "create sculpting plane", made a little squiggly-doodle, and then I clicked "Render and Create VDM"... It looks like it works! Is this a new tool that makes brushes automatically?

    if you say added or joined a cyl to the plane object at a skewed angle and tried to capture that would it work even if it wasnt sculpted into it as one object as you did?

    Having tried previously it doesn't seem to work ask it will affect the plane or there doesn't seem to be a way to make it only affect the multires modifier and it then won't work. I'd love it if there was a way to make it work as it would make life a LOT easier.

    I have a new problem. If a use remesh the bakeing map breaks changes color and desent bake the map Am being working for days to sculpt something and discord servers are un active. So pls do you know something way bakeing breaks after a remesh

    If you mean before you bake it you can't remesh. It functions off using the existing plane so you can't add geometry to it, that's why you have to use the modifier to add detail instead.

    Do the VDMs only work when adding to the mesh and not subtracting? Like for instance I tried to make an ear brush earlier and any part that went below the original plane didn't appear in the final brush result, so I was only able to make the main mass of the ear and not the hole part that goes into the head

    That's very curious. I can't say I had tried something that went below the original plane but I just did and it transferred to the brush fine. But I was using a slightly different method for making the VDM I had mentioned to me. I will do a video on that and put it up in case that solves the issue for you.

    Can't you use dynamic topology for this type of brush instead of doing all this subdivides?

    Not to make the original sculpt. It's one of the main disadvantages of it (also you can't start with a mesh when sculpting the original, it has to he a plain). If they could do something to change that it would be AMAZING and better than Zbrush I believe.

    You'd just apply the image to the plain using displacement and then save that I think. But why not just use an alpha texture? It's designed for things like that as the image won't have overhangs.

    Hello Good day I have a mesh that is 490k Vert, 981k Tri.But whenever ı try to use VDM brushes to add detail(Especially stuff like Horns/Teeth That Protrude etc the brush looks very blocky and low res despite fact the area ım using it on is quite dense.What might be the problem?

    Getting everything perfectly centred could be tricky but it could be. The issue is you'd have to sculpt the symbol, you can't create it from objects.

    Usefull for fastmouth eyes ears and nose to get an easy sculpte to work from. special for experimental sulpting where you don't have time for the face.

    @@longlivethesecondplaceice2736 Hmm.... I didnt seem to experience an issue when I did this for the bullet holes... I wonder if I can reproduce the issue to see. Sorry but Im not sure I know a solution as I havent had that issue yet.

    Ohhhhhh I forgot to save the image as OpenEXR my bad. The blender demo file to make these vdm has all the settings ready in default exapt for size 16 to 32. For anyone who runs into the same problem. Don't forget to save your image's as openExpr.

    Good morning, how to save the models with the modifications in the 3D mesh? I tried here it appears in the sculpture and when I go to object mode it comes back without modification. Do you have any solution? Thanks.

    I'm trying to understand what you're asking. I think for what you're saying you need to apply the multiresolution modifier. But if you go that the VDM won't work. It's because the the sculpture is not actually affecting the object until you apply it, it's like a boolean that hasn't been applied yet, if you go to object mode you won't see the boolean.

    Got it now. My fault, I didn't apply it in the modifier, but in a plugin that does the total application. Oh failed. Big hug and continue the videos.

    technology familiar to me, but I first learned about it about 10 years ago when I studied mudbox ) you can see how long and slowly this "progress" is moving forward )

    I mean with all the other tools that Blender has put in place (including things like Geometry Nodes) I wouldn't call it that slow. But then that's just my opinion.
