@@MrRondonmon according to Wikipedia - Richie's father toasted his mother, Alberta, saying "She's a great lady, she's a great mother, and she's a great friend." The toast inspired Richie to write a waltz, "Three Times a Lady", which he dedicated to his wife, Brenda. Richie did not believe that a waltz would fit The Commodores' musical style, so he wrote it imagining that it would be sung by Frank Sinatra

She had excellent taste. Some of those nursery songs are a little, shall I say, odd. Remember Three Blind Mice, she cut off their tails with a carving knife. My daughter asked me, why did she cut their tails off? Before I could even think about what to say, she said, Oh, to get the tangles out. That's as good an answer as any.

On our honeymoon Terry and I went to the ballroom and this is the first song we danced to, we heard this playing and looked at each other and smiled, it is one of our favourite moments we remember after almost 27 years, thank you so very much Jayvee. Lionel Richie is a great vocalist and the love not only in the words but also in his voice makes this record amazingly special. God bless you all, love hugs and peace everyone Mary-Ellen UK ps I waited until Terry was with me to play this sweetheart as his Dad had a bad fall early this morning and went to hospital Terry needed a special moment in his day. Dad is home now and no-one was allowed to go to the hospital with him so he was very upset and confused, but Terry was there to welcome him home he is now his usually happy self. Dad is 97 and has dementia, he is almost blind and deaf and has private nurses who look after him at his home. Terry is his principal carer and they have a fantastic relationship. They are both very special and loving gentlemen.

I heard an interview with Lionel Ritchie back when this song first came out in 1982-3(?)... You were right when you said it seemed like he was singing sincerely and that he must've written it for some special lady... He DID! He said that he wrote this song for.... HIS MAMA!!! It doesn't get more special than that. 😁💗

I was the ring bearer walking beside my childhood sweetheart who was the flower girl . We were 5 years old at my oldest brother's wedding while this song was playing in the late 70's. If this song doesn't get down to your soul, check your pulse.
