The Clash - White Riot Reaction (with interview)

Ойын-сауық

In this video we're listening to another one from The Clash. We also included an interview where the members of The Clash talk about what prompted them to write this song. Very eye opening. Enjoy!

It's sad that these days a lot of people don't listen to albums anymore, this song was included on The Clash's eponymously titled first album. IMO Listening to that record all the way through at high volume is one of rock'n'roll's essential life experiences! Definitely one of the greatest rock records ever made.

I saw The Clash on their first 🇺🇸 tour at The Santa Monica Civic with Bo Diddley opening. The drummer , Topper Headon was incredible. The energy in the venue was electric. For a few years , they truly were " The Only Band That Matters "

That's a good night out! I have a book of Clash photographs by Pennie Smith. There's a really beautiful one of them backstage with Bo. He's clearly regaling them with some pearl of wisdom, they are all totally fixated. The caption is something like, "When Bo speaks, The Clash listen"

44 years ago my dad brought London Calling then The Clash and Give Em Enough Rope he would hide them from me on weekends with him because he reckoned I'd A make him sick of them B I'd wear them out. As a kid in the seventies dad introduced me to The Clash The Ramones The Members The specials B52s Devo The Pretender's Adam and the Ants Madness Elvis Costello and they are still some of my favourite bands singer's But I'm very lucky to have had a dad that was really into music and would take me to gigs I've seen dozens and dozens of band's with dad over the years the last one about two years ago THE CURE hopefully plenty more to come with him the grumpy 75 year old English Man and as long as he's Grumpy i know he's Happy It's if he's smiling that's when you should be worried

Good. You're doing the version that was the Clash's debut single in early '77. A second version was recorded for their debut LP. (The US version of their first album uses the single take.)

We will turn you both into a couple of Clash City Rockers :-) LOL X I remember when I was 16 years of age . My friend and I hot footed it over to Lewisham South London to watch the Clash at Lewisham Odeon. It was an amazing concert and Mikey Dread was also on the stage. The Stranglers were always my favourite band , but for sheer stage presence and pure adrenaline, you couldn't beat the Clash ! RIP Joe Strummer x

Now that you have crossed the Rubicon, have a listen to another early Clash track - White Man in Hammersmith Palais. Another song that dared to not only have White in the title but also managed to namecheck Hitler in the lyrics, all done without a whiff of racism. Great song.

Is the interview part from the Westway To The World documentary? It's been a while since I saw it last. Well worth a watch if you can track it down. The Clash are an excellent band to follow chronologically, they have a pretty amazing and interesting development. Starting in Punk and morphing through different genres, there's slices of Folk, Funk and Reggae along the way. Kind of similar to the path The Stones took in a way. It's an interesting parallel.

I was there. Those were amazing times. Oppression, joblessness, and the poor economy created the perfect storm that caused new music and new social outlooks to come to the forefront. The name of this song has indeed been misinterpreted many times. Anyone familiar with the Clash knows exactly what they were about, but it's good to give a short introduction lest anyone get the wrong impression based on the song's name. Their debut album, from which it's from, is still my favorite! by the Clash.
