Lyrics
Sing, Michael, sing
On the route of the nineteen bus
Hear them sayin'
How you get a rude and a reckless?
Don't you be so crude and feckless
You been drinking brew for breakfast
Rudie can't fail
We reply
I know that my life make you nervous
But I tell you that I can't live in service
Like the doctor who was born for a purpose
Rudie can't fail
I went to the market to realize my soul
What I need I just don't have
First they curse, then they press me till I hurt
We say Rudie can't fail
First you must cure your temper
Then you find a job in a paper
You need someone for a savior
Oh, Rudie can't fail
We reply
Now we get a rude and a reckless
We been seen lookin' cool an' speckless
We been drinking brew for breakfast
Rudie can't fail
I went to the market to realize my soul
'Cause what I need I just don't have
First they curse, then they press me till I hurt
Rudie can't fail
Okay! Okay!
So where you want to go today?
Hey boss man!
You're looking pretty smart
With your chicken skin suit
You think you're pretty hot
In the pork pie hat
Rudy can't fail
Rudy can't fail
Rudy can't fail
Rudy can't fail
Rudy can't fail
Rudy can't fail
Rudy can't fail
Rudy can't fail
Rudy can't fail
Rudy can't fail
Rudy can't fail
Rudy can't fail
Rudy can't fail

The Clash are one of the greatest and most versatile rock bands ever. They could pull of any style: rock/hard rock (London Calling, Tommy Gun), reggae rock (Guns of Brixton, Safe European Home), pop (Train in Vain, Lost in the Supermarket, Stay Free), punk (Career Opportunities, Janie Jones) and these are just some of the many amazing tracks they had. Amazing band, easily in my all time top 10.

No filler there. American rock bands would do that. Get one or two hit tracks and put it on an album with filler crap music. So that a rock band might have a whole album of good music, but they spread that music out over several albums to make good money from loyal fans.

Its all buzzwords anyways but pop has been usually classified through history as a simple catchy premise with a typical song structure and more of a focus on making an enjoyable sound then necessarily making complex arrangements. Why cant he fail? He is a winner all the time ! :)
Great vocal by Mick.
No-one gets you moving w/an open hi-hat flourish like Topper Headon, and those fills after each verse are the peak of that.
All great bands have a 'purple patch'. A year or 18 months when everything they touch turns to gold. This is a band at the absolute peak of their effortless brilliance.
That baseline !
Probably greatest album ever 😊

This Album is THE ROCK!!!
Super tight group. Glad my dad included them in his repertoire of stuff he showed me. Back before social media, every band in the world was competing for just gigs and airwaves. You couldn't just look up London Calling on youtube. You had to actually go buy it. So the creativity in the 60's, 70's, 80's and 90's was massive because you couldn't sell records if you weren't good. There were no musical gimmicks. We're more or less getting this for free, which is why you should do your part and at the very least like the video so it pops up on someones algorithm.

Alex Csura Yes, all gr8 songs; Few bands combined genres of ska Punk New Wave and Rock so smoothly +woven with social/ political messages that helped thousands of kids & 20-somethings to learn about real stuff going down in the world, while still digging music in the same spirit of original 60s folk-rock activists- sadly the 70s combination of fun and intelligent activism had dropped away because of the takeover of bubble gum corporate//weak radio; what's important is that a lot of punk bands had the right idea/ right attitude but most kids didn't understand what they were rebelling against, beyond a general vague sense, yet thanks to bands like The Clash, alotta folks woke up--while digging gr8 times along the way. 📻🎯🍸🎹🍺🎸

He was supprting Global a Go Go ....house of blues Anaheim. Amazing show. Joey Ramone had just passed i remeber and they covered Blitzkrieg Bop? I got so wasted that night. Remeber like %95 of it all. Tymon Dogg was talking to young Punkx outside before the show and....drank a lot of free Patron after the show and tried to get a threesome together with my girl amd her gf. Missed it by that much. The tequila was from some schmuck buying my old lady and her gfs drinks . Pirates life. RIP Joe
I heard Train in Vain once on the radio and spent the next two weeks in record stores looking for the album. Didnt know their name. Actually bought a fountry album with "Stand By Me" on it first. But after i found "London Calling" and listened to the whole album, nothing else mattered. You could have taken all of my other albums (The Cars, Blue Oyster Cult, etc.) and i wouldn't have cared. But if you tried to take this one we would be fighting. For the next couple of years this was the only cassette in my car. My younger brother Geoff and i would rock to it. The dash on his side was perfect for playing drums. We picked up this kid hitchhiking one day when Jimmy Jazz was playing. Kid looked at us funny. We laughed and continued singing along. Priceless memories. At the time no one else was listening to them. The in 1990, Rolling Stone had their best 100 albums of the 80s. And London Calling was number 1. Konda loved it. Kinda hated it. Because it was only us at the time. Then Rock the Casbah and Should I Stay came out and everyone loved them.
Clash at their best. Quality music
Lucky to have seen them live 3 times in London, including the massive Rock Against Racism gig at Victoria Park.

Knife fights and death, real rude boys never die
I used to think that Rudie Can't Fail had reggae elements, but that was just because reggae figured prominently in so many of their other songs like White Man in Hammersmith Palais. This song here, by far the biggest influence is the rhythmic strokes of the great Bo Diddley. No question about it. Rudie Can't Fail's momma was 50's rock n' roll.
What a CATCHY little ditty.
When you hear anyone say the word, "feckless," you start singing about brew for... ... breakfast.
I love Mick Jones' sections on this song. Such a good song
