What I've always liked about you Joey is that as a player and as an interviewee you are always honest. Always accepting responsibility for your actions. Everybody has their regrettable moments but you have achieved in spite of the detractors rather than letting them ruin you.

I have always thought that Joey Barton was a thug and an idiot.....BUT...after seeing this interview of him and seeing how well spoken and thoughtful and listening to him he is quite articulate and intelligent....just goes to show that you have to know the person instead of reading what the papers say about him...well done Joey...you have turned me in to a fan :)

This guy reminds me a little bit of Roy Keane in a sense he is way more intelligent than people give him credit for. Keane was in a different league as a player obviously though. Both of them have done daft things off the field, but I think labeling them as idiots is a bit hasty. Having moments of extreme anger doesn't necessarily make you a complete idiot. Everyone makes mistakes. Keane to his credit didn't take his antics to the extreme like Barton and he realized he had to stop drinking, while Barton had to learn the hard way. At the end of the day you know were you stand with these people. They are honest and I find Joe Barton very interesting to listen to, he is a bright lad, unlike many other footballers.

He seems not only level headed, but nice. However, at 23:20 - Joey Barton talks about how he really likes purple (the colour) and then it becomes obvious if you look around; everything is purple. The backgrounds to all the graphics, the furniture, some parts of the walls were purple etc.; I think they put purple everywhere to calm him, making sure wherever he looked, he saw some purple. Clare Balding probably had a purple card in her pocket in case he got enraged.

Barton comes across very well and speaks his mind about being in jail and what he has done wrong plus even admitted he deserved to go to jail, yet whether people like him or not, he says what we think (well most people). I find it funny people having been commenting in this saying "Barton U Cunt" etc yet chances are they probably never even watched the whole video, sums up YT comments. #RespectForBarton

comes across as a lot brighter than your average footballer. they are all normally quite dim and devoid of personality. he has both He isnt everyones cup of tea as a player, the whole pantomime villian thing, anyone who has had him in ther]ir team would appreciate him. he is a quality player the whole speaking in a french accent is cringy for him. Ive done it with germans ,when i go their i fall into it,not as bad as he went, but i can see how it happens Decent fella, just a working class scouser, i can imagine the mancs and chelsea players didnt like this

It's hard growing up in Liverpool when you've got a proper brain. You've still got to play the part of gangster and take no shit, therefore you must become able to be violent or you will get shit on time and time again. I'm glad I escaped that bullshit lifestyle and now I can be my true self. I know exactly where he is coming from. Top lad Joey!!

Because he's nowhere near good enough. If another defensive midfielder, Michael Carrick, can't make the England squad, Barton definitely can't. It has nothing to do with his antics, it's just about skill, and he's definitely not good enough.

Joeys a good lad, he speaks with much more honesty and articulation than any other footballer, seems to me like he gets a bad rap and its just popular to hate on Joey now cos its fashionable to, yeah clearly he has some trouble with anger but then who wouldn't, someone comes up to 9/10 lads in the street and kicks their woman/family member you'll get the exact same reaction, now just cos hes famous he should act differently? nobody'd bat an eyelid if it was some random lad on a night out but why should Joey have to get stick from random scally c***ts when hes just trying to have a nice night out, is he supposed to just take the abuse? give it a rest, like you'd just let someone hit your sister/gf/mother, millions of fights happen a weekend and go unnoticed but the only difference is hes famous, if the provocation doesn't happen, the incident doesn't happen. He's opinionated and doesn't just give you regurgitated media training bull so people are bound not to like him i guess
