Was so looking forward to watching and hearing the commentary on the Liverpool v Fulham game after hearing of the excitement of the last few minutes. How bitterly disappointed I was to hear a woman commentating. I turned the TV off I could not listen to her cringey voice. Pure awful to listen to a woman commentating on the mens game.

Men’s football speed varies from league to league

It reminds me of that family guy episode when the group of guys lose their memories but piece together the situation and work out what's gone on. The scene then pans over to the girls who have also lost their memories, but they're just fighting each other 😂

Joey is 100% right. If we are being brutally honest, decent level men’s Sunday league football is a higher standard than top-level women’s football and if we had Sunday league players analysing EPL games then viewers would quite rightly find it ridiculous!

If sport or football really was equal, there would not be Womens/Mens Tennis, Mens/Women Swimming, Mens/Womens Football. They are separated simply because of biology. There is no way Alex Scott would survive a full blown Roy Keane tackle. If the FA really believed in equality the men and women would be playing in the same team, but even they know that cannot be physically possible.

It’s quite simply a different game. Slower, less skilled and not as much pressure. I want to hear from men who have played at the pinnacle of the game, no woman has played at the pinnacle of football.

He might not be the best speaker, but they both let the other person complete their thoughts and don’t interrupt each other. It was actually pretty sane for a media interview. If you watch football and listen to the commentary and the punditry, there are some terrible male pundits and Joey Barton has never raised any complaint about them. You can easily say that your opinion doesn't matter as you've never played professional football, and Joey might say the same thing. And a pro who's been much more successful than Joey might say he shouldn't be commenting on top players in top teams. It's just his opinion at the end of the day as it is any of ours. And I'm sure female pro's know a lot more about the technicalities of football than you and I.

Exactly the point I made in my post, female presenters and commentators have just as much a place in any sport including mens football if they can ask the right questions and describe factually what is happening in an entertaining way. The role of the pundit is usually the professional insight from a player or manager, at this point woman can not talk with authority on mens football, neither can 99% of men who have never kicked a ball at the top level. That's all Joey had to articulate but sadly allowed himself to get blindsided.

@@samuelbino7915Rubbish , the women commentators are the biggest problem of this issue , women commentary actively ruins the experience of watching the game for millions of fans. Not everybody can be a commentator, its a very skilled profession, and a bad commentator will ruin the coverage. This was known until recently when nowadays anybody seems to thrown on commentary. Presenters as women, absolutely fine in fact some are better than men. The issue is commentary and punditry.

Absolutely, most of the Play by play and presenters are more like journalists. Word smiths. But co-com, who is bringing the analysis has to be well versed in the sport. If they aren't a men's pro, they need to have done thorough research. But too often you have a lady, who doesn't really watch men's football that much, doesn't know the players and teams well. And they are relying on their knowledge from their playing career. But the standard of play especially for a former women's player is like a 10th division player in England at best.

The bottom line is most viewers who happen to be men, aren't interested in a woman's opinion about the game they love which is football. Unless however, she proves to to be just as good and insightful as a guy.

4 words. Match of the day. Yer, I know we have to put up with looking at Lineker and thinking he's massively overpaid and over-opinionated but at least when we see punditry of this quality we can see exactly what Joey Barton means. Quality will out and always prevail. It's nothing to do with sexism it's just who is best and it's everywhere box ticking agendas and it is putting people off watching football. So well done Joey for speaking out and not losing your cool when you're getting talked over and shouted at by people who are completely missing the point.

Laura Woods is different, she presents the show and asks questions. That’s fine. It’s the so called experts who have played at the equivalent of under 15’s male football providing their opinion that we can’t be doing with.

Thanks joey for having the balls to say what we're all thinking.... I personally have resorted to changing the channel because I feel like my brain is rotting after hearing these commentators stating the blatantly obvious. Its a shame because I used to look forward to the expert analysis and now it's like we've lost it

Come on just say you don't like to hear woman as he was utterly and completely debunked unless you think people like Motson, Lynham, Jake Humphreys, Mark Chapman know more about the game than Alex Scott. The only way you could say it was facts is if you said nobody who hasn't played the men's game at the top level should commentate on mens top level football, that would be fair. In a democracy, we're all entitled to our opinion and need to be courteous if possible. The following is about what I hear, rather than a guy liking a lady. Good pundits / presenters / commentators: Lynsey Hooper, Gabby Logan, Pien Muelensteen, Sue Smith, Kelly Somers, Laura Woods. Not so keen / sound down: Eni Aluko, Courtney S-K, Lucy Ward. I used to be alright with Eilidh Barbour and wonder if the narrative she read was 'thou shalt' or her choice. It wasn't particularly helpful, as team selection should be ability based only. Enjoy your football! ⚽

Women comment as pundits on the men's game , but you never see any male ex footballers who played in the top flight commenting on women's games !!!! WHY is that ? are the TV companies just box ticking or the female pundits are just grabbing at the money for being on TV ?
