Earth is a test. Out there, beyond what we're capable of experiencing is an entire galaxy of civilizations watching us struggle to make it off this planet. A task that once accomplished will show that we are ready to unite and be peaceful, because the only way we'll ever get there is to quit fighting amongst ourselves for the limited resources on this planet and instead work together to enjoy the vast universe.

Our history of fighting and warfare wasn't only about resources. In fact, ideologies and religion have been the backbone of many wars. Even most terrorists attacks are ideologically or religiously motivated. We aren't likely to stop fighting just because we build a few parking lots in the solar system. We're underdeveloped primates and in group/outgroup tribalism is in our DNA.

One New Guinea native went to a city and jumped away from the cars because he thought they were demons coming at him. Whereas a highly advanced civilization is likely to have much smarter beings running it.

This video freaked me out because I was literally thinking of a Dyson sphere surrounding the Sun with solar panels the other day and even asked AI about it, if there would be a civilization of such a type. I am already familiar with the Kardeshev scale and have thought of these types of civilizations ever since my imagination caught hold of these ideas. It caught me off guard to see a KZread video talking about the same exact things that I was thinking. It is fascinating to think about all the undiscovered reality that we as a human race have not discovered yet! There are very few who dream of these ideas since most of us on this planet are too busy doing other behaviors like not being able to get along, boasting about one's ego, or politically trying to deceive or influence another in all emotional ways! In order for us to even get to a type 1 or 2 civilization, we would first have to overcome mastering our own human behavior and emotional states. We seem to be too busy with trying to resolve so much conflict that we lose sight of the long road.

While anybody can speculate and let their imagination run wild the theory of the civilization types suffers from two major flaws. First it envisions ever greater need and use for energy. Yet we see that as civilization becomes more advanced, it also becomes more energy efficient. For example using electricity to switch on a lamp is more energy efficient than using parafin lamps that in turn is more energy efficient than using a flaming torch. This suggests that rather than an ever increasing use of energy, that eventually the use of energy will reach a plateau and level off. Any increase in energy will then be based on the population growth. Yet any population can only grow to a certain size. Beyond that new territories will be needed, like a colony of bees becoming too big for the hive breaking up and the breakaway group needing to find new territory. This might not be practical or even possible in space exploration. This is where the problem lies. Just because you have learned to master the earth's energy and control the weather doesn't mean that you have the skill to create a new atmosphere on Mars in order to start a space colony on Mars. This is even more true when moving from a solar system to a galaxy civilization. Just because you can harness the power of the sun doesn't mean you have the know how of how to use energy to travel vast distances of several light years in space. This is especially true if you have to preserve the sun to sustain the solar system civilization rather than consume the sun's energy to move to a new star that might be farther away than the sun's energy can sustain you. Also energy cannot be created or destroyed. It can only change from 1 form to another. This means that at some point a civilization will reach its maximum use of using available energy. What happens then? Will the civilization then stagnate and not advance further, or even go extinct? A second major flaw is that at some point it envisions that the civilization will move from material to the non material or spiritual level. Yet the spiritual is something completely different than the physical and not a more refined form of physical matter as if the spiritual is like being at the gamma end of the electromagnetic spectrum rather than white light. To move from matter to spirit is like wanting to move from a 2 dimensional world to a third dimensional world when you are situated and limited in a 2 dimensional world because the depth dimension is non existent. Having mastered everything in a 2 dimensional world doesn't give you the knowledge of how to create a new dimension of depth. Likewise how do you move from 1 universe to a parallel universe when parallel lines never meet? This means that even if parallel universes exist which is not clear that it even exist, there is still the problem of being able to move from 1 universe to another especially if a universe is closed up on itself and unable to interact with another parallel universe. We have every reason to believe that each universe is closed in on itself since the total energy level in the universe stay the same since energy cannot be created or destroyed.

I'm 66 and most of my life is pre-internet. I love technology and it's tremendous promise. Sadly we're going through a phase of using it (weapons, disinformation, etc.) against each other too much. This technological intimidation stifles our growth and potential. There is no guarantee we'll get past it. Powerful elites have a very long history of oppression by using contemporary tools. The resistance of We The People has been the only bulwark against that. Isn't long past time we grew up & stopped this? Will the oppressors voluntarily stop? Unlikely. What do the oppressed do about it? Our future depends on it. Will we remain stuck in our own mud?

For example by asking your health insurance company if they know of doctors with free capacities nearby, or calling many different doctors yourself to find an earlier appointment somewhere. By asking people who know people, though that's really not how it should work. Or finally, you also have the option to go to specialists you pay yourself in your own country. This doesn't remove the fact I criticized, that the USA as one of the richest countries in the world seemingly cannot be able or are completely unwillingly to provide basic free healthcare to all of its citizens. Instead healthcare is a business which makes a lot of people rich and leaves the sick in debt.

The primary danger of any advanced civilization is facing complete and absolute indifference.

I think on that scale, entertainment need for humans is just an obstacle towards achieving a genuinely advanced civilization. For humans to get to that level, we'd have to cease being humans. We'd have to become an ant colony. I doubt very much that such an alien species would be interested in entertainment. They'd be curious, they'd be scientists perhaps, but it would always be in the interests of the betterment of their civilization as a whole.

@@neil2444that is literally how humans work.. we are already approaching a type 1 civilization. A reusable rocket has already been made and interplanetary travel is a current goal. AI is also in its baby phase and yet has already proven to be a valuable tool to the people who know how to use it, same with robotics. Third possibility: The advanced civilization has been here since the beginning of humanity, but prefers to remain in the background, silently using Earth's leaders to move humankind toward an outcome they desire, making it appear all along that we're the ones making the breakthroughs and advancing forward on our own. I would love to be a fly on the wall when they are discussing how values would have to adjust for inhabiting space. What a fascinating question. For instance, if a civilization is able to control energy, could they also control and maybe store “life force”? Meaning that dying wouldn’t be permanent (a bit like “Altered Carbon”). They would have to be similarly shaped as us to advance especially in technology, if they are intelligent but without fingers, they wouldn't need technology and would probably focus more on harmony. A super intelligent fish would probably look like a normal fish to use because it can't really do anything with its intelligence.

Here material is being drawn out (or lifted) from the star itself by specialized stellar forges, the lifted material is the fusioned into the desired elements and used for construction... a bit far fetched but possible I guess.

The first step to become the next level civilization is when we figure out how to set laws that benefit everyone, including animals and the planet. We are too primitive, we respect no one or nothing, a few greedy people are destroying everything for themselves, and if we take down those few, other group of similar thinking will replace them. Is this our potential? Looking for ourselves only? Even communist countries that are supposed to look for everyone, they look mostly for the ones in power, not much different than capitalist countries. The problem is not the philosophy of the governments IF THEY WERE HONEST most kinds of government will work because they would keep in check the few greedy of their country. But corruption seems to be in our bones. We need to change in a personal level to start real change, support people who are honest and not people who only talk and do different. People who include all races in their philosophy and not only your ethnicity.

Great comment. I agree with nearly all of it except... I don't think corruption is in our bones, per se. The problem is -- in a system which, in its current state, is based on corruption, the people who are not corrupt cannot make it to the top - to the place where they are needed in order to bring about positive changes. Change, real change, has to be grassroots. It has to evolve from the little people. And here on planet earth, the corrupt leaders find ways to keep the little people too busy trying to just live, provide distractions to keep us from being curious to learn the truth, too dumb to try to dig for it, too anesthetized to want to fight for it. The little people are kept too weak essentially. So... it's very difficult for any grass roots change to take place. So, the system continues. The greedy get bigger, richer, more powerful, fewer in number. Eventually, but it's a long ways off, this reaches a finite point and fails.

What’s scary is we’ll never know for sure… we can be recycled again back to this earth or move onto another dimension and continue life somewhere else like it’s the next chapter of your life. It’s wild

I absolutely love this video and this topic. Around Type 4, I couldn’t stop thinking- If future humans put even a fraction of their energy (pun intended) into creating interpersonal environments of infinite love and safety, I don’t know if anyone would even be that interested in exploring the cosmos. Maybe once our days are all warm and fuzzy, more scientific exploration may be diminishing returns on our quality of life.

Most science begins with a question, or perhaps a vision of what could be governed only by our perceived understanding of physical law. To define science is such a manner reduces these questions or notions of the possible future as trivial or unnecessary to the scientific process. In short I disagree with you. Vision is, and has to be part of the scientific process or we have no direction. So these speculations, are (in my opinion) thinking scientifically.

This is all great fun for science fiction. I love movies and books about all this stuff. But what this type of speculation never takes into account is the inner person - their character/behavior/nature. Even if we could fix all the problems of energy/technology, even if we could fix all physical illness and even reverse aging, that still does not address the heart of who we are. It does not address the problem of human selfishness/conflict. It doesn't touch the heart, the soul. We would still be the same selfish, angry, evil people we've always been. Whether it’s God or some scientific explanation, people are simply looking for a way to explain existence and why we are here. I’m agnostic. I respect religion but I see no reason to assume anyone currently understands reality in a fundamental way enough to think the answer they have is the true or correct answer, unless that answer is that they have no answer at all

Learn the definitions of sex and gender two words that don’t mean the same thing. One is a biological construct and one is a societal one. Also there are intersex people born with both sex organs so you should learn about biology before you talk.

A single government, a utopian vision. What happens when the massive energy requirements cited naturally lead to conflict over resources, a problem that predates civilization? Totalitarian, repressive government, to tyrannically prevent this, picking and choosing who to allocate the resources to?

Just to clarify. Immortality and Eternal Life are two different things. To be immortal is to lock in on one existence meaning there is no data wipe and you retain all thoughts and memories which at some point cannot be good. Immortality is the act of living forever in attempt to keep data stored on be reset and having to start over. But it comes at a price.
