THE HUMAN FUTURE: A Case for Optimism

Ғылым және технология

Soundtrack: melodysheep.bandcamp.com/albu... Patreon: / melodysheep Change is coming. Humanity is entering a turbulent new era, unprecedented in both Earth and Human history. To survive the coming centuries and fulfill our potential as a species, we will have to overcome the biggest challenges we have ever faced, from extreme climate change, to rogue A.I., to the inevitable death of the sun itself.
The headlines make our chances look bleak. But when you look at our history and our tenacity, it's clear that humanity is uniquely empowered to rise to the challenges we face.
If we succeed, our potential is cosmic in scale. Incredible prosperity is within our reach. Being optimistic is not only justified, it's a powerful weapon in the fight for a higher future.

honestly, when I began this project, I was preparing to make a doomer-style "final warning" video for humanity. but over the last two years of research and editing, my mindset has flipped. it will take a truly apocalyptic event to stop us, and we are more than capable of avoiding those scenarios and eventually reaching transcendent futures. pessimism is everywhere, and to some degree it is understandable. but the case for being optimistic is strong... and being optimistic puts us on the right footing for the upcoming centuries. what say the people??

Glad the video covered everything from a solar flare stronger than the Carrington event knocking all the satellites and electricity out, to a gamma ray burst, to invading aliens to run away strange matter... when we're talking about thousands or millions of years that we will have to be constantly rolling the dice on in the future.

The most significant element that can save us is LOVE!!We as species must realise that without love, compassion and empathy we are all doomed!!If we understand that we are all connected as a universal soul without any borders then we can thrive, imho!!May all mankind find the light within which is the divine love and then glowing hearts and souls will unite in harmony and peace..into a glorious future ahead!!!

💯 Reading Tacitus or Suetonius, for example, sounds like our own modern lamentations on repeat. (Kids are painting on public buildings, their music is wretched, etc. ) You're right. It's been this way for millenia. But what IS different is scary as hell... Earth needs triage. Two things stand out: the sixth great extinction is upon us. And the Doomsday Clock's at 90 seconds before midnight. Neither of these are, despite the ignorant opprobrium of the Dunning-Kruger brigade, fake news. It'll take the miracle of planetary unity to even begin to fix what ails us. How do we make that happen? Technology only seems to promote the guzzling of 'conspiratea'. Yet here we are sending tiny missives of hope and connectedness in comment sections. Fwiw. I'm very old and would give anything to know that the innocent children and animals' future was secure. This one is a really nice fascinating university student case study project, but many elements of it he brilliantly used to are from the evil one world beast system prophesied in The Revelation a long time ago that is in everyone's plain sight all around the world now in the 2020's on the cusp of installing the one world financial government beast system to move everyone to WorldID and WorldCoin as eugenically bred transhuman controlled slave subjects with it, now called World Economic Forum, set to cause WW3 ensuring to kill us all off and that history is rewritten with America, democracy, and concept of fair free market economics are never known again for the financial elites are terrified of one thing. If we were ever to do unit to do something about them to take control of our destiny in the common brother of man. This video is a nice science fiction video art resulting from a bright young university student's exploration.

conflict is nessisary for the greater good of humanity. When looking into behavioral sinks we see that withought conflict to make things intresting life begins to psychologicaly deteriorate thefor generating conflict making a utopia an impossible paradox... however like i have said this is helthey. mankind has become far too risiliant. There is almost nothing that could potentaly wipe us out withought us comming back only stronger. That being said i also think humanity is doomed to go extinct... not suddenly but gradualy. Nature has been the primary influence on our eveolution untill our self awearness was able to flip the scale making it so that we influenced natures evolution... and now the technology we have created will become a part of our evolution. Your cellphone is an extention of the hand desined to conviniently fit the human body... but what if we changed the human body... what if we drove the technolgy into ourslevs deeper and deeper until flesh and metal are but one and "human" is just a guidline. This is what will enharet the univers. A flud being capable of changin in anyway its mind sees nessisary.

This video just made me realize the absolute complex system of future human growth and how humans can theoretically become higher beings with even higher goals. This video should make me feel joyful about how humans could possibly become these higher beings but I can't help but to feel a sense of great sadness since it is almost one hundred percent inevitable that I will never be able to live through these experiences of advancement. Even though what has been stated about our advancement is only theoretical, I really do hope scientists are able to formulate some sort of drug that will allow us to live as long as we desire so that I will be able to see and go through these advancements with the rest of the human race. I do not want to die, at least not yet.

Man, not only does this masterpiece touch on many things i have thought about, it is also the much needed positivity in our time. It seems that we have forgotten how to hope and dream of a better future. And i am honestly starting to get fed up by all the dystopia in current media. We owe this to those who have yet to come.

  • @Toix

the sadness is, all talk without action leads to nothing...historians do predict another crisis similar to a French revolution or fall of Rome regarding conglomerates increasingly becoming more predatory and the constant commercialisation of nearly everything, as well as infringing on global politics to undermine human rights purely for profit and lack of government integrity preventing this for happen- you literally see this happening everywhere and people do nothing about it, essentially a "false peace" to believe that we have nothing to do with the wrongdoings that take place by simply turning a blind eye, yes we do need positivity...but talk without action practically is nothing and many people dont realise how by doing nothing- allow those who abuse their positions for the sake of wealth at the cost of humanity to keep on doing just that.

I truly believe that our potential is endless and that the future will be shaped by humanity's willingness to push past the accepted limits of our reality. Words alone can not capture the beauty that is the human experience...It's why we need art, and why people like you are separated from the rest. This video lifted something off my chest that I didn't even fully realize was there. Sure, I saw that things are generally looking grim. For years, I have been growing increasingly pessimistic about the world, about its future, and about humans in general. I found myself bitter and disappointed that the future was probably going to only be worse than the present. I looked back on the whole wide history of humanity and wondered if we had reached a peak and would proceed to destroy ourselves through ignorance, vindictiveness, and spite. Given all of that, I thought that I was doing a pretty good job of just trying to keep on going and do what I could about problems that are too big for me to solve. Yet watching this video made me feel such a wave of relief. I don't have to worry that this is it, that there isn't a purpose to anything I do because it's just going to be swallowed up by the greedy maw of extinction. I can dream of a better future and trust that someone will see it. I can weave my own story and know that something of it will last into that golden age. I can live and believe that there is some purpose behind the struggle. Thank you, Melodysheep, for this beautiful video. It means more to me than these scant, bare words could ever truly express.

You and I are gonna die one day. We aren't animals. We didn't come from apes or bacteria. We are made in the likeness of the Most High God and out of the dust he has made us and breathed his spirit of life to us. That is how we are alive. Everything is designed by an intelligent designer and to think everything came from nothing is false. Jesus Christ 2000 years ago came to this world as the manifest incarnation of the Eternal God and after walking this earth for 33 years he died and rose again. He ministered with people for 40 days and went back to his throne. He is coming soon and its about time we all repent of our sins and transgressions. If today you hear his voice, don't harden your hearts (heb 3:15). He is able to give you eternal satisfaction and protect you forever and ever. He is the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. The first and the Last. 2 “Look, I am coming soon! My reward is with me, and I will give to each person according to what they have done. 13 I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End. 14 “Blessed are those who wash their robes, that they may have the right to the tree of life and may go through the gates into the city. 15 Outside are the dogs, those who practice magic arts, the sexually immoral, the murderers, the idolaters and everyone who loves and practices falsehood." BUT I don’t focus on what I can’t control and that’s the power of greed and evil, I just prepare myself for the worst case humanity scenario I can wrap my head around. And from my perspective that is a continuation of greed and evil, so I live a modest life. I have chickens and I grow an abundance of greens and I try to remain as grey as possible. But I work hard and play hard (mountain bike, raft, climb, snowboard, hike, etc…) and most importantly I love myself, my family and friends, and I’ll love you too until you give me a reason not to. We live in the best of the times with the worst of attitudes. Adjust your attitudes and your moral compass, reconnect with yourself and Mother Nature. “Life is what you make of it”, never truer words spoken.

YES. THIS. I've been a long time advocate of future optimism. Now that millennials and younger are in adulthood and starting to take over roles of seniority, we're infused with a sense of a dystopia from media we grew up with and a self-awareness of being born into late stage capitalism. It permeates every adult conversation we seem to have. The attitude that "we're fucked". NO WE'RE NOT. The problem is, nobody is producing media that depicts a positive outcome for humanity. Films like this one. Attitudes like this one. We are creative, adaptable species but we're also social and aspirational. We need to be shown or told about what's possible by artists, in order to aspire towards the highest good. The narrative painting of the englightenment age is what kept us pushing, flourishing. Bibical or otherwise, tales of struggle followed by positive outcome and reward is essential. Dystopian conflict sells, it's the cheap ticket now. We need more output like this. We need to all start to show eachother what the best possible outcome could look like. Well done on producing this, and thank you as ever, for the incredible content.

  • @MaticTheProto

You are completely wrong. We don’t need more media showing everything will be fine. That’s what people tell themselves already. But with the current hyper consumerism caused by capitalism which relies on limitless growth, we will kill ourselves. We need more media showing the reality of collapsing ecosystems and the countless extreme „once in a decade“ weather events that happen every year. We need media that causes people to protest for meaningful change. Because nature as we know it is dying right now, and innovation alone can’t stop that fact.

@@emilnemyl448 Agreed. What we're enjoying here is sci-fi. But it's on the right track. Art creates a very important bridge between what we can actually do and what we can visualise experiencing. If we want to succeed in turning climate change, global corruption and poverty around, media like this will help, is my point. We have all sufficiently consumed the doomsday narrative. Let's see what a corrected future looks like. I agree, there's a real gap in the market for art that depicts the future we can have using just our current technology, science and manpower alone. What if we toppled corporate superpowers in an organised way? What if we replaced outdated and dysfunctional social systems with functional, sustainable ones? We are allowed to imagine it, so we should, I reckon.

When people say "We're fucked" they're talking mostly about themselves, not humanity as a species, even if they suggest otherwise -- humans are hard wired to care about their personal survival, and the survival of their children. If we actually cared about the survival of other peoples' children, we wouldn't have billions starving right now. And they have every reason to be pessimistic -- it's the most realistic attitude most people have had in a long time. That may be a silver lining in the end, but do not mistake it for being misguided.
